Special Teams, special Teams, without any PP goals you will not get anywhere. Get a power-play coach, a real one.
This team has to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch, starting with carrying the puck over the blue line. All this dump and chase on the PP is not going to work. Every team playing us has figured this out. Wake up... |

Dipietro sucked tonight. AND ONCE AGAIN THE SPECIAL TEAMS FAILED MISERABLY. This was a horrible game. I wouldnt want to see tonights team in the PLAYOFFS.

Ricky D was outsmarted and outfoxed by the Penguins tonight. Hey, I'm glad we signed Comrie, he was a real force tonight - oh well, yes, he was invisible. Let's facr reality, Islander fans. The team is not very good. "The Kid" line, with so much promise earlier this season, has turned into a major dud. The only hope is to bring back Yashin.

I love it when DP fans on the puck! It happens a lot too! Yipeee!

50 shots and only 2 goals. Horrible! PP unit was useless tonight. Send Hilbert to the minors already. That guy is not worth the paper his contract is printed on.

Calm down everybody. The Islanders outplayed the Penguins; let's not make it sound like this was the worst game ever. Teams lose; it happens. To say that their season is over and that they can't win anything is being a fair-weather fan. Comrie has been playing well, but I guess one bad game erases all previous good play. Does anybody remember the 6 game winning streak of the past few weeks? Two losses and fans are ready to hide in a corner and cry about their "bad team that is going nowhere." Get over it and start supporting this team.

You know something I'm starting to agree with the ***hole from bellmore about DP. he's a good goalie but not great and never will be. Four goals on twenty shots come on already start performing like an allstar this time of year you @#$hole

where did these islanders come from firing all these shots the last few games. Its a complete turnaround...
bad loss though considering the penguins were missing half their team wonder if islanders fans will actually blame dp for this one |
guess so. He is a solid goalie but a few years in and his fundamentals are still off. I tuned into the game and he had let off 2 goals on the first 6 shots.

you cant only look at stats. Yea he gave up 4 goals on 20 shots and Conklin gave up 2 on 52. Did you watch todays game? THe islanders totally outplayed the pens. THe pens were in a funk until they made it 3-1. Exactly which one of these goals was dp's fault? Malkin totally outfooled martinek and sent it home, a million chances at it for the 2nd goal on the pp, a beautiful shot by staal upstairs, and then a defensive breakdown on a breakaway. Honestly give the guy a break hes a top 5 goalie in this league. He might be the best goalie in the east this season. He has been superb the last 2 years. This guy is the real deal folks. He made a great save on Malkin by the way. Malkin played a great game, pretty much won this game along with his line and Conklin of course. Its not dp's fault the isladners cant score. Dp is not the issue with this team!

DP was definitely bad tonight. I think I would put two of those goals squarely on him and suggest that all four were stoppable. It's sad that the Isles could generate all that offense and not find the back of the net. You could see they were second guessing themselves on the 2 on 0 breakaway. That should have been a (non-passing) scoring attempt from Bergenheim with Park swinging in behind to clean up the (potential) garbage. Poor decisions on that one. Comrie did look pretty bad tonight as well. He fell back into his bad habit of blind passes that go right to the opponent. The guy's got talent but he's too overconfident (I can't understand why) and he makes some poor decisions. To that end, I understand the criticism of MAB (as I criticized him early in the season) but I can't believe they gave him away so cheap. I thought his play had improved significantly. Satan was actually working hard tonight. I'm kind of surprised he didn't score. He usually does when he bothers to work hard. |

I often defend DP on these forums but at a minimum you really have to blame him for the fourth goal. Yes, you can say that the defense broke down to allow the chance to begin with but DP committed early and took himself (horribly) out of position on the play leaving an open net for a minor leaguer to deposit the puck. He really had to be embarrassed on that one. I agree that DP is not the issue with this team but I don't think he had a good game tonight. I don't think this is the one where you should defend him. The Isles dominated the Pens but had trouble beating Conklin. They had a few defensive lapses and the Pens scored on every one of them. You need to be able to count on your goaltender to cover an occasional mistake. I'm sure the other side will skewer me for that commentary. I usually end up arguing with the likes of Dino and RRL (who often don't recognize how much I am in the center on this issue) but now the "defend Ricky at all cost" crowd will be mad at me. I like to acknowledge when he has a good game and tell the "DP sucks" crowd to shut up but also acknowledge that he has bad games and call him on it. |

hes definitely not the issue with the team as you say, as he is the best player on the team...but hes also not a top 5 goaltender, and does make alot of mistakes. When you give up four goals in a game i am sure at least one of them is "the goalie's fault".
Just because a player is the best on a team, or the least of a teams problems, doesnt mean he cant be criticized. Look at Arod, eli manning (who deserved it) etc.

Besides Broduer and maybe and i say maybe bc he doesnt have as many starts Tim Thomas, which goalie has played better then Dp in the eastern conference? Please do not give me Lundqvuist bc of his shutouts. You cant compare the ranger$ top 2 lines to the Islanders. And dp does not really make all that many mistakes. The guy is fantastic with the puck and has only gotten better this year. Dp is becoming a star right before our eyes. Is he Broduer, no? But the guy is an all-star and will be for many seasons to come if he stays healthy. He's the biggest reason the Islanders werent sellers and are over 500.

DP is brutal. Wake up already fans. Commerie, well that's what 4 mill got you. Party is over, once again.
Yes we outshot and outworked the pens but the PP has to click, even if your 2 for 8 it wouldhave been another final score. DP will get there, can't blame it on him totally
well the stats dont lie...not just shutouts, goals against average, save percentage, goals allowed in general
DP is not having the year you think, he is actually ranked in the bottom half of goalies.
If the Habs could get a second round pick for Huet, who knows what the Isles could have gotten for DP. Although Het's numbers are better than DP's, DP does have that 15-year contract. I only hope that a new building is finished before Isles see a new starting goalie.
Top 5? Are you high? 1. Giguere 2. Kiprusof 3. Turco 4. Luongo 5. Brodeur 6. Lundqvist 7. Backstrom 8. Miller DP is somewhere in this area. |
ok..how about the this then. Henrik is better in: 1. Wins 2. GAA (by alot) 3 Save % 4. Almost 3 times as many SO You isle fans say the Rangers suck and are right there with the Isles. Then in the same breath you discredit Henrik because "The Rangers top 2 lines are so much better" which is it? You can't have it both ways. |
