I wanted Rolston to come here but 4 years 5 million a year? That's a lot of money and years for a 35 year old guy. He's been playing at a pretty high level the last few years so good for him. I guess the Devils figure he continue to pot 30 as he approaches age 40.
Even though I'm usually against bringing back players I wonder if JM took a crack a Hagman. He's ra`ised his game since he left and ended up signing for a pretty fair price.

South FL wrote: Remember boys, he only scored 24 goals last year because he was playing behind Rod Brindamour, Eric Staal, Ray Whitney, Eric Cole, Dany Heatley, Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza... and still 24 goals is a good thing. Lets think positive, because this is a good thing. He'll get his 20 goals easy. Not to mention, this is going to have a HUGE impact on Horton and Weiss. They have someone who can get just as firey as they do on the ice. And when he talks to them they will be able to understand him. He's also going to be a huge help to our younger guys. Rolston is gone, Ryder is gone... Brunette is gone... really there isn't anyone out there for us. I'm pretty sure we've seen the last of our FA signings this year. So what are we thinking here? Playoffs? I don't know if they aquasition of Stillman gets us there, but it's a start. However, if we get the production out of Horton, Weiss, Booth, Stillman and Olesz that we think we can... we may JUST be dangerous. Our defense is much improved, and Vokoun is going to come out solid. Don't forget, we have some pretty solid 3rd and 4th liners with Kreps and Dvorak... and eh, I guess Peltz is ok when he wants to be. JM is still waiting to see what Kilger is going to do. Do you think he's worth it at all? NOW, for all of you who think the Lightning will be great, consider this. Last season we saw the Rangers ink Drury and Gomez... and thy had a much more solid D line and goaltending. They just eeked their way into the playoffs. It isn't about the best players it's about the right ones. For the first time in the year 2008, I'm excited about the Panthers... lets DO THIS! PS Motley Crue was amazing tonight! Glad you enjoyed Motley Crue. I saw them many years ago open for Ozzy on the Shout At The Devil tour. I agree, I think that's it for Free Agents this offseason. At least they made some effort to address the offense and replace Olli's goals. It will be interesting to see what's going to end up happening with Bouwmeester. As for the playoffs. I don't see it yet. The Eastern Conference is pretty strong from top to bottom and I think it's pretty clear Washington and Carolina are better teams than the Panthers right now so making the playoffs while in the third hole of the SE is going to be hard. I'm crossing my fingers that DeBoer is the kind of coach that can get the maximum out of his players. As usual the team needs to get off to a fast start and these young guys need to start earning these long high paying contracts. If a lot goes right maybe the can sneak into the 8th spot.

Then we better be quick to sign up the retired gals of the Rocketts as our new cheerleading team, and retire the young strippers.

I hope Stillman isn't added to that infamous list, but Florida has a history of grabbing FA's long in the tooth and short on passion with little gas left in the tank. Maybe Stillman can break the curse? Maybe we can get our GM to get back the Beezer/Fitzpatrick team to put life into our lackluster team. LMAO!

I don't see Stillman replacing Olli... I see him replacing Horton. What I mean is I think Horton is going to replace Olli. Horton is going to step up this year.

Thats funny, b/c I think Horton is going to be the team's new scapegoat. As is such with the tradition he will be traded next offseason for a bag of pucks, a whistle and a box of oil filters for the zamboni. Stillman is a decent pickup but those of you who think he's going to pull a 70 point season out of his hat are smoking some seriously good squishy. How is he going to match his assist total from last year if he has nobody to pass the puck to (same goes for our "puck moving defensemen" .. move the puck to who?) also how is he going to score goals when he spend the entire night chasing the puck around and backpedaling to play defense. Again, they had all of the things they are looking for in a player in the guy they traded away. I hope we all have fun sitting back and watching this team play defense.. they'll be doing a lot of it.

South FL wrote: Oh and I forgot to mention Zednik. He'll be back. Mclean as well... I think we'll be ok. I am in agreement with south Fl. It seems that in our thinking of a quick fix(getting a stud scorer)we would wide up over paying for something that we would rather get in two or three players. As hockey seasons go there is always a team that is expected to do poorly, but suprises everybody in the league. I thenk we might be that team if everybody stays healthy.

Shocking. It appears the only thing the Panthers "planed" on doing is getting some mediocre players and picks in exchange for our primary goal scorer. Not excatly the best way to to turn a struggling team around.
If Jacques is the genius hockey architect that some on this board claim he is, he has a funny way of showing it.
I say bring back the Murray Bros. and Chris wells!(j/k)
