Sabres Brass: Everyone's to Blame

Full story: WGRZ Buffalo

From first to essentially worst. That's how many Sabres fans view the 2007-2008 season after the team failed to make the playoffs.

Maybe there is something to Quinn's statement that everyone shares in the blame for the "first to worst" status of the team but, as in almost every situation, there are degrees of blame. Since this whole decline started with the failure of the front office to re-sign KEY PLAYERS over the past three off-seasons, I say that by far, the greatest degree of blame lies with Golisano, Quinn and Regier.

Quinn is such a Teflon man...thats why he is still in the position he is in. Deflect Deflect and more Deflect. You'll never see a 'Buck stops here' motto on his desk.

"Leadership" has become a cliche. What does it really mean in hockey terms? Is it simply "we'll know it when we have it?"

Larry Q. showed me that he qualifies to be the next Buffalo Schools Superintendent. Yeah, we all make mistakes BUT ......... keep on deflecting it toward the other factions. Not openly admitting that management bears much of the fault - where does he expect the ultimate leadership to come from?
I am very surprised with Tom Golisano's obvious astute business acumen, he has Larry Quinn at the helm, destroying his franchise!

Larry Q, every year is out here covering his own but. Then still every year the Sabres end up on the short end of the stick and he blames everyone else for his own shortcomings. Yes the team needs to be financially viable to be in any city, and yes we are a smaller market. But you have to do the best with what you have and occasionally you have to spend some money. We have lost player after player due to money! Then when we get something viable its torn apart, so is the money that the city and Tommy G lost this year worth letting so many players go? There will always be die hard sabres fans that will watch the team win or lose like myself. Tom Galisano needs to look at the big picture, he has been an owner for a couple of years now! Maybe, just maybe with their past track record, maybe its time to change up something in the front office. It is time to stop blaming everyone and center the blame where it belongs!

Did the front office of the Sabres take "The Ralph C. Wilson Jr. School of Management" class? Fill the stadium, get the team close and then let all your key players leave?
The Sabres learned that if you can get a great team, fill the seats and save cash, it will work. It works for Ralph.
Well, unfortunately it don't work for the Bills, and now, sadly, the Sabres are trying it out.
When you gut the scouting development in favor of a video scouting department, does the video interview the player to be drafted to see if he can or will become a leader? I don't think so.
So to blame the younger players can be a bit true, but everyone from the top down, knew the team was lacking leadership right from the start of the preseason.
Naming captains monthly just goes to show you that know one knew who the true leader was. At least with Drury and Briere the players knew who to go to if they had a problem.
I just hope Don Luce (Last Scouting Head)and the crew that he took to Philadelphia with him are laughing big time right now.
Oh, that's right, they are scouting who the flyers might be playing in the second round.

There "was" so much talent on this team and the 2 main problems the GM & Managing Partner, should be "FIRED". Make Rudy the GM/Coach. We have 2 great players left & these 2 jerks will most likely let them go asw well. I don't think fans will tolerate any more excuses or screw-ups from upper management

A letter to TOMAS GOLISINO TOM if you want to cash in get a good manager & retain great players If it happens you will see a full house with standing room only in the arena & the lobby its a sure thing there will be more season ticket holders than what you have now its a sold out proposition GOOD LUCK TOM

As I read some of the earlier comments, I sat back and thought about them. Yes, Quinn did offer some explanations. I want to ask, the fans...What good would it do to put the team in high debt just to win the cup??? Can anyone GUARANTEE that going into debt will get the cup to Buffalo??? The injuries, playing Miller constantly (that was a huge mistake!) all contributed to no playoffs or cup run this year...I hope next year will be a better year...

If you don't like the Bills and the Sabres, then don't watch them. Instead of the teams leaving Buffalo, why don't you just go and leave the sports fans alone.
