I was worried this wouldn't get done...way to step up to the plate. Now they need someone else, whether it be Jan or not.

I've been critical of Howson over the last couple seasons, but I really like this signing and the trade for Carter. He finally addressed two of this team's glaring needs, a top-line center and a power-play qb. Glad to see that Wisniewski really wants to be in Columbus - maybe the Jackets overpaid a bit for him, but small market cities like Columbus unfortunately have to do that in order to attract FA's. If these acquisitions pay off with a playoff appearance, the Jackets may find that opening the purse strings in the offseason will be rewarded with more fans in the seats during the season.

Not only did we just sign a defensive stud that will answer alot of our issues. We stole him from Detroit too! They were totally going after him to replace Rafalski and I got to hand it to Howson. He pulled off a big heist and I bet those Red Wings fans are mad as hell!! Love it. All we need to do is resign Hejda.

Well-done, Howson may have averted his firing for another year at least - more, if this team finally starts achieving (or dare I say - OVER-achieving?) for a change.

Playoffs? Let's dream!:)

It sounds as though Wisniewski went against his agent's advice to pick Columbus @ 6yrs/$33million.

What would he have gotten in free agency? 6yr/$40+million? More?

The most impresses me about this are the choices he could have had available to him in free agency - he could have waited to see what offers he received from across the league in free agency before signing with Columbus - but instead chose to make a commitment to Columbus.

This feels awfully refreshing to me - I hope it reflects the man's true character. It should certainly ring true to this blue collar town!

The jury is still out on Carter - he didn't have a choice. Let's see how he embraces the team and his opportunity to be a leader here.

Wow -- this guy Weisenski or however you say it must have been sniffing airplane glue when he decided to come and play for this sorry franchise. Worst team in professional sports today!

Think there's an edit error in AP's piece: he talks about Hejda's signing with Colorodo, then at the end of the story talks about how Howson might still talk with him after the free agent deadline--suspect that didn't get deleted out after the signing with the Avs was official.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Cancer

Take care because it's a rather downbeat day. You feel as though you have the cares of the world on your shoulders, and maybe you have. You've certainly got to cope with a lot of responsibility and duty, and there could also be delays and disappointments that need to be negotiated. Yes, it's a fairly miserable day but try to rise above it, otherwise you'll soon start to feel really wretched and sorry for yourself.
