Isles sign Weight as help for Guerin

Full story: Newsday

As much as it might help the Islanders' young kids to have an experienced hand like 37-year-old center Doug Weight to show them the way, his signing yesterday might mean a whole lot more to another aging ...

Good move again Garth. Weight brings more leadership to the team and is a solid 2nd line center who'll definitely help with his play making abilities.

Sorry but this is the wrong move by the Isles. He's 38 years old on the downside of his career. He only scored 10 goals last year - and he was on the Ducks for 1/2 the season. Weight is finished. He'll be just what Guerin was to the Isles last year - a nice start followed by months of not scoring.

As Yoda once said, "When 900 years you reach, look as good you will not."

Bottom line Weight was cheap thats all Snow wants cheap salaries,I thought he was on a youth kick I guess Weight being 37 is young. We have shot at the # 1 pick next year Weight and Guerin combined will be lucky to score 25 goals between them,I can see 8000 for everygame does Snow have a tight budget or is he dreaming 10 years ago this would make sense time to throw in the towel

Gang, as much as we've suffered through the years, can we not just take at face value the fact that they are doing what we begged of them for over 10+ years now. Commit to a youth movement, STICK to it, and sprinkle in a few vets here and there. What we need to do is to put a few good solid winning seasons together, and THEN, and ONLY THEN will the big money guys come here.

Despite Wang's meddling, and obvious lack of hockey sense (see: Milbury surviving for the better part of a decade), he's making good moves. Guerin and Weight play well together and could finally help to turn Tambellini into a solid forward, before we write him off. Teams like TB will be good for a year or two, and this spending frenzy is almost 100% due to new owners in TB, and will kill them later on in Salary cap problems.

Let's just let it play out, hope to god Hilbert leaves voluntarily. Bottom line, things look pretty good. Maybe not a deep run, but very possible to see us fighting for a playoff spot.

Assuming DP stays healthy. God save the queen.

Andy Hilbert has no business playing hockey. I'd rather have an empty net than Hilbert on the ice. The isles should Yashin his a$$... Buy out his contract and dump him.

This is not the best nor the worst move, considering nobody is knocking our door down to come and play, Gerin and Weight can help to develop Okposo, Tambs, and Comeau. Isles fans have to be optimistic for the future, and there is light at the end of the tunnel. We konw were not going to win the cup in July. Since the rangers already have won it like every year.

I like it. between Guerin, Weight and Sillinger, the Isles forwards will have enough leadership for the kids. This move will not help them win right away, but it'll be a good experience that will help the kids mature that much sooner.
As for Hilbert, you guys are one tough room. I agree that he can't finish worth a darn, but I see his hustle, defensive worthiness (Given that is not what the Isles need), and some decent wheels. I do think, though, that he is more a spare part than anything else. Probably a healthy scratch unless we see a lot of injuries.

CONTINUITY GARTH- SIGN TED NOLAN FOR ANOTHER FEW YEARS- You can bring in aging veterans, journeymen and rookies all you want- You still need a person who can coach, leda, guide, prepare and motivate players to play- TED NOLAN IS YOUR MAN.-
Not Steve Spirling, not Terry Simpson, not Ted Green, not Butch, not Trots, not Rick Bowness- you had a winner in Laviolette and blew that one- DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WITH TED NOLAN-

Wow, what a beautiful pick up by the Isles. Weighty will play a big role in the success of the team this season. I think Billy G and him will have big years offensively, especially on the pp. I love Dougie and his leadership should rub off to the younger players in the dressing room like Comeau, Tambelinni and Kyle Okposo. Good job Garth Snow. Let's go Long Island!!!
