Rangers admit they need a spark from someone

Full story: Newsday

For a Rangers team seriously devoid of any distinguishable or discernible identity, two of last year's main contributors in the personality department are surfacing this week.

One Cup since 1940 and you need some spark?
Besides buying the Red Wings (like when they bought the Oilers in 94) the stRANGERS need an entire power plant, not a spark.
One cup in 69 years? Yeah, they need a spark.

Besides early eighties Isles have been nothing. 3000 fans a night, nice fan base. Kansas City here they come

And why are the Rangers relevant ??
The last place Islanders are still drawing real fans (about 13,000) not a "sellout" of 18200 corporate suits, but fans that actually pay for their tickets.
The Ranger$ will never get out of the first round with Sather as GM and Renney as coach. They can keep overpaying the likes of Drury and Gomez and keep making the playoffs, and not much more.

Aside from the usual Isles vs Rangers bickering. Signing Avery would be a tremendous mistake for the Rangers or any team for that matter. NHL is all about youth these days and he's a cancer. Look at what he did to Dubinsky when he was with you guys. If you really need a spark I think it's about time you fire Renney. There seems to be a trend since he was at the helm, hot, fast start=1st place and then a drop to where you barely make the playoffs. How about some consistency folks?

You need to look higher up the ladder for reasons why the Garden teams continue to flounder. Dolan's tenure has gone at least as bad as many people's worst fears surrounding him on day 1. The Orioles have the Angelos era; the Clippers have Donald Sterling; the Lions have the Ford family. The brutal reality with Dolan is that he oversees TWO professional franchises. And, as is the case with the incompetents listed above, he is going nowhere.

The Knicks and Rangers history predating Dolan is obviously notable for lack of championships, but who knows if that could have changed in these past dozen years under different ownership?

The Knicks at least have the potential to seriously compete in 2010 - because Dolan may have finally stumbled onto landing competent management. The Rangers ... no such luck.

Sorry, you've got that backwards. The Rangers have started terribly the past couple of seasons, then got hot to secure a low playoff seed. This year has been the reverse.

I agree about losing Renney. Won't happen though, since that responbility falls to the GM and the Rangers don't have one.

Agree with the Renney part, disagree about Avery. Renney's system clearly is not working and changes need to occur on the bench and the front office. Avery at 1.9 per year for 3 years is a STEAL!!!! That is pretty good when his old team is still paying half his salary

I would have fired Renney the second he complained after a 2 1 loss that the Rangers don't follow the plan. The problem is that they follow the plan and why every team in the NHL would rather play them than any other.

I would have traded Drury the second that "Captain" told the press this team is not capable of scoring.

The problem is the leadership. Renney must be fired. Forget the fawning the sports writers do over him. He is the problem.

The NHL has now become a game for P-uss-ies....might as well make it a no check league...can't "hit" the star players without getting a penalty...boring league to watch...although its a great game to play.

Well, DUDE, I've had full season tickets since 2000, and your friend is wrong. Don't get me wrong, some nights it's pretty bad, but I'm surprised at many were showing up in January in the middle of an 8 game losing streak. I know the stats are "paid" figures, but they still matter and about 80% did show. 1/15- Boston- 15,548; 1/17 Devils- 16234 sellout; 1/19 Wash. 15,521; 1/21 Ducks- 11,853; 1/31 Florida- 13,336. Not too bad for a dead last team. Kudos to the marketing department, using all kinds of promos, but somehow getting fans to show up.
