Anderson to the rescue: Panthers end 3-game skid

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Craig Anderson hadn't played since the first day of this month, but he felt more pressure perhaps than any of his Panthers' teammates Thursday night.

Sorry DeBoer, but that is a completely asinine comment and you must just be a puppet and tool of Martin and this equally moronic organization. On the positive side --Whoo Hoo boys !! Winning in Philly and scrappin' and Anderson, well, gosh golly. we're still showing signs of life after the present felt like a return of the doldrums. You men are professionals and only you can control your destiny. Let's Go Panthers!!!!!!

7 Games left. 7 more wins would yield them 97 points.

But how many will it take to make the playoffs? It took 94 points last year in the East. If that holds true this year than you could say it is still possible for the Cats to end their playoff drought - but they can only let go of four of the remaining fourteen possible points.

But it took 96 points to secure eight place in the West in 2007 (and 95 in 2006). No reason it won't take that many this year in the east, if teams fighting to get in get hot, or stay hot. That narrows the margin of error even further.

No doubt about it, the Panther's squandered every chance they had to "coast" in on near .500 hockey. Once again, they've backed themselves into such a deep corner they pretty much need to try and pull out an unprecedented winning streak (maybe 6 in a row) to make the playoffs.

They've never shown any reason to believe they could play their best hockey in the final 10 games, so why should they now?

I'd sure wish they'd stop making it so hard on themselves. If they just could put them in playoff position, they might like knowing that they only need to go four games over .500 over the next 28 to win the cup. Going 16-12 isn't that hard, when compared to say, the 6-1 they'll need to get the chance.

Good win. Most likely too little too late, but good win. I know many will be quick to blame Vokoun for the past losing skid, but any goalie (including Anderson) would start to show signs of cracking when having to stop around 40 shots a game on a consistent basis. It's just too many shots for any team to allow if they want to stay successful. I wish them luck, but at this point they will need Montreal to stumble to have any hope for playoffs. This is the most frustrating situation to be in because even if they play the best hockey of their careers the next few games, it might still not even matter if the teams ahead of them manage to win enough games to stay ahead.

This win was long overdue. Andy was terrific. The rest of the team had no choice but to play physical. It makes a difference.
It also shows that we are capable of beating both the best teams in the league as well as some of the more physical. I hope this win is not for naught and did not come too late.

The hit on Hartnell was a thing of beauty! He's a little wussie. I'd pay big buck to see another one delivered by Ballard on him.

Great win. Panthers are streaking and will prevail despite a dopey G.M. He must be fired.

With the win they don't gain any ground, but didn't lose any either. A better performance - though Andy being hot certainly helped cover some defensive lapses. Montreal gets Buffalo and Chicago next, while the Panthers should have it easier with Dallas and Ottawa - though with the Panthers not much comes too easy.

Kind of amazed at the call (or non call) on the ridiculous reaction by Hartnell to the clean check by Ballard. There's been an epidemic this season of the type reaction by Hartnell to absolutely clean checks - with the guy getting hit going after the other player as if they got kneed in the balls. If there was ever a reason to call the "instigator" penalty, that certainly is it.

Don't bet on the goalies and hope that Andy uses his own head.

Hire Potvin as GM. Fire Jacques Martin. And get a real play-by-play announcer, that Goldstein s-u--cks.

That's not exactly true. The NY Rangers lost in a shootout to Atlanta, therefore the Rangers earned 1 point compared to the Panthers' 2. That puts NY only 4 points ahead of us instead of 5. Although to make the playoffs we must hope Le Habitants & the Rangers both begin to collapse down the stretch.

Personally I think it comes down to only the Panthers, Sabres and Canadiens. I don't think the Rangers will come back to the bottom of the pack. They had their collapse and it seems they've righted the ship. I see only the 3 teams I mentioned fighting it out for the final spot. The Rangers benefit from having one of the best goalies in the league and it looks like Buffalo will get Miller back.

Anderson is the best guy on the team and has proven it almost every time he takes the ice. He needs to play everyday.

He still has not proven he can play in the #1 slot. Huge difference between stepping in (even if on a prolonged basis) and actually being the #1 guy.

But, if Markstrom can be ready to join the team next year (and he is the heir apparent to the #1 spot long term), it might open the door for them to trade Vokoun this summer and pick up a quality player in return - preferably a guy who is a real goal scorer.

should have pointed out in the post above that the scenerio I noted would require them to sign Anderson as a UFA, which still might be a cheaper deal than Vokoun's
