I understand people want Detroit blood. But I have to say being a lifelong Hawks fan the thought my makes stomach turn. The chest thumping a lot of Hawks fans are engaging in towards the Wings and their fans worries me and honestly lacks any merit when you look at recent history. Set aside the fact that they are evil and realize the Wings are an amazing team and their history in the last 10 years probably outdoes most of ours.
I want to win the Stanley Cup more than I want to beat the Red Wings. Give me the Ducks. The Hawks have now taken on two sizable, physical teams. The Ducks will play that same way. The Wings are just loaded with talent. |

Bring on the Redwings.....gotta beat the best to be the best.

To be the best you have to beat the best. |

kind of silly isn't this? First, take a side argue one side not both. Second, it's pretty obvious you wan the 8 seed. Especially given Detroit's success against the hawks.

If we're talking frequent flyer miles and Marriott points -- Anaheim. If we're talking a meaningful series for the ages -- Detroit.
Boy, I dunno... |

They don't carve the name of the best team on the Stanley Cup, they carve the name of the team that wins the Stanley Cup Finals. I don't need to be the best. I want the Cup. And if that means taking the easiest road possible, bring it on. |

WRONG AGAIN JACK ASS,bring on the ducks. |

And? Fact is there is no easy route to the Cup. Eight wins and eight to go. Keep the faith. |

Bring on whoever, but I hope the Wings-Ducks game tomorrow goes about 12 overtimes.

As a life long Hawks fan, statistically we stand a better chance against the Ducks over Detroit.

One thing that seems to be overlooked. The Hockey News notes that Detroit is very poor on the PK in these playoffs. With the Hawks power play clicking now, that could be a big difference, and a boost for the younger team.
Either way, this series is going to be a very unexpected treat. The Hawks have been one of the best sports stories in years, and it's too bad too much of the media is focused on the Eastern Conference or Canucks in the case of the Canadian media. |
||||
Granted that regular season doesn't mean a whole lot, but the 4-2 Wang advantage came with two shootout wins. The teams are closer than what first appears. The Wangs have some vulnerabilities this year, including the PK. Osgood isn't what he used to be and I've been a fan of his since watching him in Juniors in Seattle. The Hawks will rightly be underdogs in either series, but don't count them out. |

I'm sure Detroit didn't complain at all that they got Columbus in the first round rather than the Ducks, though the Ducks are the better team. I'm all for winning the Cup (possible but still not odds on by any means), and if it's easier with Anaheim, then bring 'em on. No matter what, this season and playoff run have been more fun than most of us figured. Fortunately, the "kids" don't take their cues from the fans. |
||||
L O L. I started out the bidding on overtimes yesterday with 7 in another thread. Got bumped to 8 and now 12. I'm also hoping for a huge game-ending brawl that results in multiple suspensions on the winning team. |

In order to advance to the Cup Finals, it's to our advantge for the Hawks to play the weaker team on the best terms possible.
Anaheim is that team. They are the lesser skilled team (8th seed), will be the most exhausted (7 game series, back and forth travel to the coast), and the Hawks will have home ice advantage. What a brilliant run it has been so far !! GO HAWKS !!! |

While beating Detroit in the Conference Finals would be incredible, I am also a realist. They are scary good - Franzen is just a monster - and that matchup just doesn't favor the Hawks. Plus, while he was way below average in the regular season, Osgood has been much better in the playoffs. GAA/SV% of 1.97/.924 outpace Khabi quite a bit. Statistically, he is not their weakness. It appears that complacency is. That game last Sunday showed how the Dead Things can just smother the life out of a team.
