Who ever wrote this article did not do their homework. Chelios left Chicago on his own when his contract expired and signed as a free agent with Detroit. This is after he announced in a public interview that he would never sign with Detroit, and he swore on his 3 childrens lives that he wouldn't. I guess money was more important than his kids lives. He was not traded to Detroit.

Now your the one that needs to do his homework.
The reason he wanted to go to the wings is because he wanted to make a name for himself. There was no mention of swaring on his kids life he wasnt going to go to the wings.
It's actually stated before the interview that Chelios wanted to go to the wings so he could play with some of the greatest. In the 1998-99 season he wanted to be beside Lindstrom, Yzerman, Mike Vernon and Federov.
So, maybe before you put down an amazing defenseman, and you should be the one looking it up.
