Ollie is correct. There are some players not playing 100%. There is a very simple way to handle it. Coach Jacques Martin should identify them and send them down the minors for a while and replace them with other guys who will give 100%. The status quo won't work for this team. Coach Martin needs to take action now. Last night was pathetic.
Nice thought, but it doesn't work that way. Can't send down players with one-way NHL contracts unless you put them on waivers, they clear waivers and then agree to accept assignment to the minors.

C'mon now, the Panthers are doing great! There are advertisments all over the building, the arena packs in big-game tours, they have exclusive clubs all over the place, and sponsors love the treatment they get from Yormark.

All you fans of the team's hockey team are silly and misguided, the real action is in the sales staff and the VP's office. Root for that, not the sideshow they put on the ice that is used to bring in the sponsor dollars.

Seriously, who needs the hockey team, when you can root for the real Panthers, Yormark and company!!!

Disgraceful performance by a pathetic team.

Anyone who still owns season tickets for this horrid team needs to check into the Mental Hospital.

I was at the game in Detroit. Yep the Panther's got beat. But, look at the Wing's record. They are beating everybody. They have only lost 6 games all season. They are the odds on favorite to win the cup. Matter of fact they only team that seems to have Detroit's number is Chicago. They've beaten them four times.

But I digress lets talk about the game. I was there with my best friend and his family-in-laws(All big Wing's fans). We sat right behind the Panther's goal in the lower bowl. Vokoun played great. We did start out flat but after the first goal we played them much better. We were out shot 12 - 0 before the first goal after that the shots were pretty even. I can't remember if we had 35 or 38 shots at the end of the game. The officiating was terrible. Many of the calls were non existant to marginable at best. I'm talking both ways. The guys I sat with agreed. A couple of instances, 1: The penalty on Salei for tripping that gave the the 5 - 3 that resulted in the first goal. The arena in house replay shows that Salei's stick didn't even touch the Wing's player. My son was at home watching the game on Center Ice and said the same thing (By the way he's a Devil's fan). 2: Phillipa's hooking penalty. He's the guy that went down and was sent to the box. 3: Both of the penalty shots, On Datsayuk's call he never fell down and got a quality shot off. Penalty maybe penalty shot NO WAY!. The call on Vokoun? The reply shows that the Wing's players follow through on his shot knocked the stick out out Vokoun's hand. He may have dropped it but no way did he throw it.( I noticed in the Chicago game that he holds his stick loosely. He dropped it on one save and tried to use that glove to cover the puck.) Not all of the call were bad. Monty's penalty was a justafiable call. He had the Wing's player in a Half Nelson. I'm not the only one who thought that. My friends thought the same thing. Having said that the team didn't play at the level they needed to. the ref's don't score goals. Giving up 3 power play goals is not good, but two of them were on 5-3's. Wait a minute I know there was only one offical 5-3 but the power play where Olesz got hit in the foot and couldn't get off the ice was effectively a 5-3 with the added bonus of having the defense trying to skate around a slow moving pylon. As for the how the Panther's scored their goals. Who cares! Golas get scored off of opposing players all of the time. It's not like the Detroit players shot the puck into their own net on purpose. It's a part of the game at all levels so all of you guys can stop whining about it. It's not how, it's how many. Sadly on this night we didn't get enough.

As for some players quitting. I think that it is a fair assesment. Some of the players don't play out the game when they are loosing. News flash! This happens on other teams too. Am I happy that I happens on th Panthers? NO!!!!!!!! but I do know that it happens everywhere ( Even on the Wing's). How do you fix it. That's up to each individual player. No amount of coaching can instill the desire to play hard no matter what the score.

All in all a disapointing game for many reasons.

Jokinen is correct about players quitting, but he should to apply his statement to the entire season. Not just the game against Detroit. There are so many players on our roster that just don't care whether we win or lose. As long as Martin is satisfied with their performance (easy to achieve), they are satisfied.
I was hoping this would be a game the Florida dump-and-chasers could prove me wrong for a change. I was hoping they would make me eat crow and show some heart and play the Red Wings like they played the Islanders a few days back. At least make it a close game even if they lost by a goal. I guess it was too much to ask and they embarrassed themselves as usual even after Detroit gift-wrapped them a couple self-goals as an early Christmas present.
Watching the game last night made me sick. The Panthers treated the puck like it was a hot potato as each player tried to get it off their stick as quickly as they received it. They played scared and gave Detroit way too much respect. The looked like an AHL team playing an NHL team. Reminded me of when I saw Germany play the Czech Republic in the Winter Olymics in Salt Lake City. Detriot put on a clinic. In the end (as I predicted) Vokoun stood on his head to keep the game from being a total utter blow-out. Man are we luck we don't have to play Detroit anymore. Can you imagine if this team was in our division? Talk about disaster. Say bye-bye to playoffs after the first game.
For anyone who thinks the Panthers have a shot at playoffs, this is the style of play you can expect from this team in the first round. Think about it, if we even were to scratch our way to a playoff berth by some miracle it would be the 8th slot and against a team like Ottawa which isn't much worse than Detroit. Talk about being handed a broom. And so the nightmare continues......
Have you ever seem a minor league game? With a few exceptions most of those guys are in the minors because they aren't good enough to make it to the NHL. ECHL players hardly ever get to the NHL. CHL/UHL/IHL are guys who are playing pro hockey because it pays a little more than load beer trucks at the local beer distributor.

As for making the playoffs, I have said from day one that just making the playoffs this season would make it a successful one. Anything past the first round would be gravy. You gota crawl before you walk.

Briere! Sorry to see your back. How goes the airborne bus driving business. How come your not crowing about your beloved Flyers? Oh thats right, since they have come back to reality and started loosing on a regular basis you have jumped from that bandwagon.

Ya know, Once you came out of the closet and said that you fly for a living (By the way that took a lot of courage) everything you have said makes sense. Us controllers know that one of the best truisims in aviation is "You don't have to be smart to be a pilot, You just have to know how to fly an airplane"

I am a die hard Panthers fan...but did any body really thought that we could win last night. lol... Dont worry we will win tonight and be 2 points out of playoffs spot. Im glad Jokinen is calling hisplayers out... Vokoun was stellar again but Detroit is in a differnt talent league that 90% of the league. I watched I think 3-5 games ( Detroit ) this season and man they make the other team look like pee wee's . We actually werent that bad in the second... This team has to learn to know what to do away from the puck.. Martin's system is not working. Look at Dtroit .. everybody has a job on the ice and know where they are suppose to be and the other teams dont stand a chance... rearely you will see detroit running around for the puck.
Stumpel, Peltonen, are looking extrmely heartless.... not to mention Horton. Jokinene is finally grown into a great captain.
Matt, I agree with you. Detroit is awesome. If the rest of these whiners would look at the standings they would see that aside from Detroit and Ottawa, no body is running away from the pack this year. Face it parity due to the salary cap has set in. It's just like the NFL. The team that can get the right group of players together and stay under the cap will be successful long term.( See the Colts, Pats and the Cowboys) Everybody else will be scrambleing to mke the playoffs.

The real Panthers are back and cannot hang with elite clubs. Scoring 3 goals in two games just does not cut it.
Goldslime,

I took your advice. I went to one of the old fabled hockey barns. The atmosphere was average. No noise unless a good play was made. the big news of the night. 11829 $1.00 hotdogs were sold at the game. A new arena record.(Yawn) The game was only the second sellout for the Wings this season. Even though they announced a sellout there were still empty seats in the lower bowl. Many of the people there were from Michigan State and came to see David Booth play. Did I mention that we sat in the lower bowl behind the goal. By the way the seats rows were so close together that I had to sit sideways to keep from hitting the guy sitting in front of me in the head with my knees. Thank god the seats next to me were empty. My friend (A red Wings fan)commented during the TV timeouts that at the other arenas we have gone to together that they use good looking girls to clean the snow off of the ice. At Detroit they use guys with beer bellys. He prefers the girls. The arena announcer sounded about 100 years old. He seems bored with the whole thing and couldn't pronounce the players names right. A real professional that guy. The outer arena looks shabby and the restrooms are small and few and far between. During the second period I went looking for one and the line was over 100 guys standing outside the door. My friend was talking to his family members on the way out telling them how nice the Bank Atlantic Center is and how nice the it dosen't matter if you pay $8.00 or $80.00 for your ticket you want to be comfortable and entertained for your money.

PS. This also goes out to that A** Clown Briere.

Do you have a job? All you seem to do is answer peoples posts! You are right! It is comfortable at the Bank Atlantic Center because you and a few of your pals are all that is in attendance!!Speaking of a PA announcer, that guy at Bank Atlantic center is terrible and has been every year since he has been there! His HELLLOOOOOO, hockey fans is ALWAYS greeted by silence, and his announcing of the gaols and penalties usually take place minutes after they happen! I could answer more of your stupid statements but I have to go to work! Why dont you consider getting a job- if you can! By the way that 100 year old guy, is Budd Lynch! Why dont you read his life story entitled, From Normandy to Hockeytown! You might just learn something about how he has served his country so that know it alls like you can have the freedoms you do today to spout off in forums like this.

Yep, I got a job. That's why i can afford to travel around the country to attend games in old rundown buildings like the Joe. As for the announcer. I didn't know his name or life history. He like my ather 9 A WWII and Korea vet) have all my respect for what they did. Being a hero dosen't excuse doing a poor job. All I was doing was responding to a challange made to me by one of the posters on this forum who told me how wonderful the atmosphere was in these old hockey cities. I have been going to as many games as I can get to in different places to see if there is a difference. So far I haven't seen much of a difference except in Finland. There the difference was in the fans. They were blowing horns and waving flags all game. In every arena I've been to here and in Canada it is about the same. People want to be entertained and the owners want their money period. I thought that this was a fan forum but it seems that it is nothing but a whine area for people that are truly unknowledgeable about hockey. They cry when the team loses. They complain when the team wins because it didn't win the way they thought it should. When the team does win it always because the other team took a night off. In other words THEY ARE NEVER SATISFIED! Get a grip. When all is said and done it is still just a game. Professional sports are designed for entertainment. GO to a game and be entertained. If your so competitive that you think that you can do better than the current players, coach or management you can either put on some gear and go play like I do. Yes Amused that's right. I actually play hockey. I play for fun, exercise and to get rid of the stress from my job as an air traffic controller. Get certified and become a coach and work your way up to the NHL. With all of the expertise I read here in these posts half of the coaches in the NHL will be replaced in two to three weeks by the armchair coaches in this forum alone. Some of you should also apply to be a GM. The hockey knowledge in this forum is invaluable and should not be left unused. Last but not least take all the money you save by not going to games and buy the team. You guys should be able to build a Stanley Cup winner in a season.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

You won't like it if you feel your wings are being clipped today. You want to do something in particular, only to discover that someone is objecting to your plans or that circumstances beyond your control are standing in your way. Although your instincts tell you to throw a tantrum to get your point across, you must ask yourself what this will achieve, and whether it will actually be self-defeating.
