Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Trying to stop another Red Wings skater charging at him with the puck, Tomas Vokoun accidentally flung his goalie stick.

The real Panthers are back and cannot hang with elite clubs. Scoring 3 goals in two games just does not cut it.

Jokinen is correct about players quitting, but he should to apply his statement to the entire season. Not just the game against Detroit. There are so many players on our roster that just don't care whether we win or lose. As long as Martin is satisfied with their performance (easy to achieve), they are satisfied.

I was hoping this would be a game the Florida dump-and-chasers could prove me wrong for a change. I was hoping they would make me eat crow and show some heart and play the Red Wings like they played the Islanders a few days back. At least make it a close game even if they lost by a goal. I guess it was too much to ask and they embarrassed themselves as usual even after Detroit gift-wrapped them a couple self-goals as an early Christmas present.

Watching the game last night made me sick. The Panthers treated the puck like it was a hot potato as each player tried to get it off their stick as quickly as they received it. They played scared and gave Detroit way too much respect. The looked like an AHL team playing an NHL team. Reminded me of when I saw Germany play the Czech Republic in the Winter Olymics in Salt Lake City. Detriot put on a clinic. In the end (as I predicted) Vokoun stood on his head to keep the game from being a total utter blow-out. Man are we luck we don't have to play Detroit anymore. Can you imagine if this team was in our division? Talk about disaster. Say bye-bye to playoffs after the first game.

For anyone who thinks the Panthers have a shot at playoffs, this is the style of play you can expect from this team in the first round. Think about it, if we even were to scratch our way to a playoff berth by some miracle it would be the 8th slot and against a team like Ottawa which isn't much worse than Detroit. Talk about being handed a broom. And so the nightmare continues......

No Jokinen, this game was a great example of winners playing losers!! It was too bad that the few Panther fans that are left could not see the game on regular TV! They would have seen puck movement so great and fast that the poor Panthers heads were spinning!! Wings even scored two goals for the kitties! Good to see the Wings lighting up Vokoun the way they did when he was at Nashville.

Yeah, I failed to mention that two of the three goals were off of a Detroit player.

Once again the out of town broadacasters talked about the need for players from the panthers to step up and how no one is. Amazing watching this game. We looked scared. Agree with Red about the playoffs. If we get in and play like this--forget about it. Listening to and watching the game--enough already. Players not skating. Players not checking. It was depressing. It was embarrasing. I wonder if tonight we will get the back to back senerio again. IF YOU DONT CHANGE THE APPROACH--THE OUTCOME WILL REMAIN THE SAME.

Actually, I thought the more interesting comment from the out of town broadcasters had to do with the Panthers not having much depth of talent after Jokinen - especially a real scoring threat.

Last night again showed that Stumpel and Peltonen are wasting roster spots.

Ollie is correct. There are some players not playing 100%. There is a very simple way to handle it. Coach Jacques Martin should identify them and send them down the minors for a while and replace them with other guys who will give 100%. The status quo won't work for this team. Coach Martin needs to take action now. Last night was pathetic.

I am truly sick of this mediocre franchise. We celebrate when this team reaches .500; like it is some fantastic feat. Get some real players in here Cohen or sell the team! I love hockey, but I can't drag myself to a panther game even with free tickets. 10 years of suckiness is enough, don't you think?

What you saw was an Elite NHL Team playing a team that's on the level of a College Team, a D-3 College Team.

They're not even in the same league as the Wings, but for being in the League on paper.

The first 5 minutes was like a PP. I had to keep counting our guys. The puck never left the zone for 5 minutes in the 1st.

We didn't belong on the ice with them.

There is something obviously wrong when the team usually quits in the 3rd period. Either coaching or conditioning, or attitude, and these guys act like they don't care. So, why should the fans care? This is, again, a totally forgettable, mediocre team like the last 5 years. They are becoming as irrelevant as the Dolphins.

Jacques Martin has got to go. This guy instills nothing in these players. He did the same the thing in Ottawa, had great players and they played completely un-inspired. When he left, they make it to the Finals and will probably make it again this year. Players have said the guy can not communicate, they are left clueless with some of his decisions. Please Alan Cohen, please, fire Jacques.

Man do I feel bad for Tomas Vokoun. He is a great goalie, but every single good goalie that comes through this place goes through the same thing. We do not have the players playing in front of Vokoun to prevent 35-40 shots a night. The best goalies never win here because the team in front of him stinks. Look at Luongo, he routinely faced, 40 shots a night...next year he makes the playoffs in Vancouver. Even Patrick Roy or Martin Brodeur would never have won their Stanley Cups if they played here. Aside from a few, the majority of the players on this team are mediocre to bad. AHL or ECHL quality. We should have lost to Detroit 10-0 if it wasn't for Vokoun.

I am a die hard Panthers fan...but did any body really thought that we could win last night. lol... Dont worry we will win tonight and be 2 points out of playoffs spot. Im glad Jokinen is calling hisplayers out... Vokoun was stellar again but Detroit is in a differnt talent league that 90% of the league. I watched I think 3-5 games ( Detroit ) this season and man they make the other team look like pee wee's . We actually werent that bad in the second... This team has to learn to know what to do away from the puck.. Martin's system is not working. Look at Dtroit .. everybody has a job on the ice and know where they are suppose to be and the other teams dont stand a chance... rearely you will see detroit running around for the puck.
Stumpel, Peltonen, are looking extrmely heartless.... not to mention Horton. Jokinene is finally grown into a great captain.

This is one of those days when money slips through your fingers in no time at all unless you're very vigilant about your spending habits. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to stop yourself splashing out whenever the fancy takes you, whether or not you can afford it. You're especially drawn to tempting little treats and luxurious indulgences.
