Panthers' paltry 19 shots don't make for a challenge

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

The Panthers ' losing streak grew to four games Tuesday night - their longest skid in more than 2 1/2 months - and created more concern about whether the pressure of this playoff race is getting to the team.

Dead team skating. Our worst fears are becoming reality; no playoffs and nothing for Bouwmeester.

Congrats to this team, you have accomplished what you set out to do, again. Con the small amount of season ticket holders you still have to renew their tickets for next year and then choke away the entire season, again for the 4th year in a row! There is no dialoge or explanation any more for this disappointment. Enjoy drifting into irrelevancy once again, and feeding the NHL's attitude toward this franchise of how this team can not win and how it's fans don't care about hockey. Thank you for another year of blind faith and unfulfilled promises. At least I didn't spend a dime with this franchise, this time!

Here's just one thing I don't get. They dress Olesz and once again he gets about 8 minutes of useless ice time in which he's a minus-1. The Panthers hardly put the puck on net all game, yet they play Olesz, who missed 32 games and it looks like he's still among the missing when he's on the ice. Why would they dress Olesz over Repik, considering that Repik showed lots of jump, shot the puck whenever he got the chance and even scored a goal doing so. Olesz should be sitting the rest of the season and someone who's game is sharper should be playing. The Panthers don't have the luxury of being able to coddle Olesz back from injury. They need productive players on the ice.

Make the call, Jacques, bring Repik back down from Rochester, sit Olesz and also sit McLean in favor of a hungry young kid who will fire some pucks on the opposing goal.

This team now has only 13 games in which to earn 18 points (18 points out of 26) and finish the year with over 95 points and have chance at a playoff berth.

something is wrong in the system whereas the Panthers were overachieving and in fifth place when suddenly it seems as if confidence as a team has completely vanished. As a fan I had come to believe that this could be the team and this could be the year to break away from the dismal disappointing results of yesteryear. Lo and behold, I do not feel my fears and hopes will ever become un-tangled.

Would all teams that are going to playoffs please take one step forward. NOT so fast Florida! As I wrote weeks ago, Martin screwed the pooch by not acquiring some extra scoring punch before the trade deadline. He just assumed things would roll along as expected without factoring in injuries, nerves and the occasional scoring drought. We could have really used at least one or two seasoned forwards on the ice last night that were willing to shoot or at least crash the Washington net. Instead we got to see Cirque de Panthers and the usual garbage we've become accustomed to over the years. If Florida misses playoffs this season they will officially be the worst team in the league. Even lowly Columbus has finally positioned themselves to end their long playoff drought this season. Either they get it together now or we can use those playoff strips to wipe our butts.

Pathetic. Nothing has changed in 8 years. Martin really blew it at the deadline. He needs to be fired at the end of the season and Cohen needs to sell this team.

first poster was right. the players play and should have some blame, but martin has done his usual terrible job: nothing for jay-bo, and don't make the playoffs, the two things that they absolutely should not let happen.

No offense, that was the problem last night. No offense. You cannot win without offense. That's the bad news.
The good news is that we are still in the playoff hunt, but this team has to get back on track. I never thought I would say this, but we desperately need Nathan Horton back in the line-up.

Agree with you on Olesz. Repik should be playing over him and a couple of the other stiffs they keep throwing out there. Been posting that since Horton went down.

BTW, there are only 12 games left not 13. I don't know about the Panthers getting to 95 points. I don't think it's going to take that much anyways. All they need to do is one up Carolina to get in. With the way both teams are playing right now all the Panthers may need to do is go 8-4 or 7-5 the rest of the season but the with way they are playing right now that seems like a lot to ask for.

Right on about the lack of moves at the deadline. Once again JM's overly cautious nature and blind faith in this group of forwards who have accomplished NOTHING as a group since they been here is looking like another year of no playoffs.

I for one am not renewing. I went Saturday night and the just dump and run. Hardly any pressure and in the shootout, we were so predictable it was pathetic.

The first 20 games of the season are to blame, not the last 4... It's the start of the season that put this team in the position where they couldn't afford to have a bad couple games.

The fact that every team around the Panthers, in the standings, went out and upgraded their roster at the trade deadline says they want to win. The Panthers did nothing to get better!!! If JM was a smart general manager he would have addressed the need to find a guy who could put the puck in the net game after game. I have been saying for months that this team is 1 super star away from contention. As they sit right now I am going to guess they will not make the playoffs and for some reason they do....they get beat in the first round 4 games to 1. And please DB put Boynton back in and sit Emmenger!!!

If anyone listens to 790 during the day.......I blame Tito in Miami for the string of losses. That hockey hater has called in to the station openly rooting for the Panthers opponents the last 4 games; and they've lost those games. Must be some kinda Voodoo or Santeria hex he put on the team.

The first 10 and especially the last 20 were even more awkward and uncomfortable to watch than Allison Williams interviewing players.

It could be cooincidence, but the attitude and play of the team seems to have changed after the Boynton suspension and subsequent scratches. I am not all that impressed with Emminger, especially on the PP. I know PD liked him in Juniors, but really, is he an offensive threat?
