No doubt a very good goalie, but he profited from playing behind the Devil's boa constrictor system of defense which featured the trap and therefore saw a lot less shots (about 20-23 per game) than most goalies. In that perspective, let's keep it in perspective and not consider renaming the Vezina Trophy the Brodeur Award.

Hockey isn't even a sport anymore. No one cares about it, and they certainly don't care that some has-been and hold-over broke a record. This is tantamount to reporting that some little girl broke the hopscotch record! HOCKEY IS IRRELEVANT!

More evidence that Marty Brodeur is a fraud…

Scott Clemmensen
Drafted at age 20 by the Devils’
Did not even make it into the league until age 26 as a backup..
Never started more than 9 games in a season.

Comes in a plays 40 games for the Devils at age 31

my son was telling me that chico retch (and i meant this spelling) went on a rant in response to people pointing out things like this...chico used video of marty dishing off the puck to his defensemen as evidence that marty's style cheated him out of credit for many secondary saves. too funny.

Although I despise the Devils & Icelanders being a Blueshirt fan, I have to give credit where credit is due. Monsieur Brodeur is a true class act in every sense of the word. He deserves all the accolades passing greats like Patrick Roy & Eddie Belfour. Montreal's finest citizen indeed. Congratulations, Marty!!!

Why is hockey irelevant and not a sport anymore? Because its not on ESPN??? Hockey is in its prime right now. It is better than it was 20 or 30 years ago. Maybe some liked the game more 15 years ago because you could have a 70 goal scorer, but right now in my opinion, hockey rocks. Yea go Watch baseball, real fast pace game there!
As for Brodeur, this guy is the BEST GOALIE EVER! Do you realize what Lundqvuist or Luongo would have to do each season just to get to 550 wins? Its impossible. Yes you have to be on a very good team year in and year out. Busey, you have no idea what you are talking about, how is brodeur overrated? Who is a better goalie that you have seen? Ranger$ fans are so stupid they probably still believe richter is better than Brodeur. Brodeur made the Devils, not the other way around. The devils had been to the 3rd round only once before Brodeur became a Devil. Now they have been there 5 times since then, 4 finals, and 3 cups(nearly 4). Honestly In my opinion this is the best Devils team since 2003 when they won the cup. That team however had an amazing defense. Nedermayer in his prime, Stevens, Rafalski, Danekyo. Yea that season I would say that you could put a few goalies in place of Brodeur and they would have won the cup. This year with Clemenson, the Devils just have played real hard most games this year. They look great, however they wouldn't get out of the first round with Clemenson thatd the difference. They are a good team without brodeur because of there very much improved offense and depth this season, but the difference is Marty makes them a stanley cup contender this season which is amazing! They dont get out of the first round with Clemenson. They still would have won the division with him though. My prediction: The Devils make the finals.

Oh really? And what has Queen Henrik done for the Rangers? How many cups did he bring home. Richter? DiPietro has done nothing? We can only say Billy Smith was the best Isles goalie bc he won 4 cups!

Explain to me why the chants...
"MARTY'S BETTER"

aren't true?!?!?!?!

obsessed much? Where did I mention Lundqvist or Ritchter?

I don't hate the Devils, they are irrelevant.

I'm just saying Marty played in a trap, clutch and grab system and faced 20 shots a night for 10 years...

A garbage pail would have racked up wins.

It's a known fact that you're a Rags fan...and a hater that neither of our beloved teams had the sense nor ability to scout and sign a goalie close to Marty's caliber.

Question:

How many more wins would Roy have if he played in the shoot out era?

So because I'm a Rangers fan I can't have an opinion?

Marty is the most overrated player in the HISTORY of the NHL....

Lou should be given an award for being the greatest GM ever...

I'm not saying Marty isn't very good, because he def is, but I could name 10 goalies that are better.

Thats why Martys record won't last.

One of the younger, up and coming goalies will shatter it.

With the shootout, you need to redo the record books

no one is going to shatter the record even with shootouts. Brodeur might get to 650 wins.

someone will. Shootouts are a joke.

If Roy was around for 4 years of shootouts he would have 50 more wins

His legacy will forever be tainted by his refusal to shake Avery's hand in last years playoffs. When it comes to class Marty comes up small.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Virgo

You're feeling restless and need to introduce as much variety into your day as possible. However, you'll want this to be on your own terms, and you certainly won't like it if plans are changed without your consent or you feel you've lost control of the situation. Try to take everything in your stride, otherwise you'll end up feeling exhausted and frazzled.
