Wow. This guy watched an actual hockey game (based on him quoting Patrick Elias). Amazing, considering he's written 4-5 articles on hockey this season and appeared to pull his facts and comments out of his....
His article is still garbage and off-kilter (e.g., the Devils have a brand spanking new arena and seldom sell-out, yet somehow, he sees this as a good thing. Also note the locale chosen by the Devils as the site of their new arena (Newark) which seems to have been ignored. Maybe low attendance might have something to do with this... I dunno. What happens to that inflated 15,000 attendance average when the novelty wears off? I hate to think of what might be.... but again, this Edge-u-ma-kay-ted guy sees this is a non-issue). Time for someone to consider replacing "Pee Wee" Herman with an actual writer of good standing. |

Mark,
What a refreshing article to read. Thank you for not being biased or anti-Devils like most of the New York media. Devils fans have a ton of passion for the team too, come check out a game and sit with us up in Sections 208 or 209. January 30 vs Pitt would be a good one since it is Doc Emrick night at The Rock. |

cjdv16,
You seem like a real happy person. Thanks for going out of your way to comment on something you do not care about. Go Devils! |

Mainstream is overrated.
However, not only is the Devils' following deep, it is actually quite "wide," as evidenced by the multitude of Devils fans found in different parts of the country (See: SoCal, Atlanta, Florida) and having a rather large booster club. A significant increase (and by significant I mean more than the 10% or so increase that they have averaged) will take longer than just a year or two or even five. The Devils, for all their winning, are in an area where there are other hockey teams. Affiliations don't simply change over night. They are changing, though. Ask the Rangers and Flyers fans whose children love the Devils. As for the comments about Newark, please. The area around the arena is great and will only continue to improve. Why the Nets won't move there is beyond me. |
