Islanders stock up with goalies in draft

Snow and Jankowski had a chance to chance to draft some good talent with their later round picks, instead they pick a couple of beanpole goalies that will probably never see the light of day in the NHL. De haan may end up being a good D man down the road but what the hell were they thinking moving from #16 to #12 to get him, he would have been there later in the 1rst round. Just more of the same mess from a couple of incompetent idiots that haven't got much of a clue.

Did you ever stop and think that maybe Snow had a hint that someone else was taking him with the #12,13,14,or 15th pick? I know you think you know more than the GMs who are actually in attendance and talk to each other, but there's more to this than meets the eye.

I have to admit I dont get taking 2 goalies with a team that has so many needs..I can understand taking the goalie in the 2nd round if they really liked the guy..but to take another goalie in the 3rd round tooo???? i just dont get this...especially cause if DP is ok..what are they gonna do with these goalies..idk if they can buy DP out of his contract...but maybe they have a plan because taking 2 goalies tells me they either think DP is still hurt or they are trying to get rid of him

Why did they ever trade Luongo???? Luongo & Jokinnen for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha. Then, instead of needing to take a goalie (Dipietro)with the first pick of the 2000 draft, they could have picked Gaborick or Heatley. Luongo & Heatley would have looked very nice compared to DP. Add to that, the trade that sent Chara and 2nd pick (Spezza) for Yashin. Luongo...Heatley...Spezza..... Chara. The Isles would be competing EVERY year for a championship instead of for the overall #1 pick in each years draft. Great job!!!

Still puzzled on why 2 goalies were drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. With Snow being a former NHL goalie, only he knows the meaning behind this madness. Guess these days, a team can never have enough goalies!

Either DiPietro looks 100% healthy for MacDonald and Danis to be released as UFA. Or, DiPietro doesn't appear to be in the future plans as an Islander. Although, Anders Nilsson looks to be a beast between the pipes.

I dont think an organization drafting goalies they think are promising means they have a problem with any of the other goalies in the system. It makes sense IMO to draft goalies if youre confident in them and think they are promising. What I think these draft picks might mean is that goalies like Lawson and Mannino may not wind up being longterm goalies here- and that Ridderwall is closer to the jump to the AHL/NHL… which we all hope is true, anyway. Rick is a fine starter but likely needs to be the top dog in a tandem once he is healthy. Weslosky and Poulin are underaged kids with years ahead of them in which to develop. Outside of them, whats left in the organization? Danis and Joey Mac are NOT in the picture anymore. There is nothing else! It makes sense to have options and not to expect that every single goalie you draft has going to make the NHL. Im glad the Isles arent doing that now, because its something Ive worried about in the past. Teams can fall into doing that with the G positon more than any other, and it will rarely work. Its similar to the ridiculous idea that drafting a goalie means you have no faith in your current goalie. Do you say that about any other posiiton? Come on.

Drafting a position doesnt mean that you have no faith in who you already have, it just means youre being smart enough to want some depth in your organization at that position- which is a good thing and what youre supposed to do at the draft.

Whats the worst that can happen if they all develop- that you have a fine player to trade? Oh, horrors.

Jesus ****ing Christ I am sick of hearing about Luongo. Luongo, Luongo, Luongo. Balls to Luongo, OK? Sure Luongo is good but the fact remains that Luongo has not accomplished jack ****- other than crying when he doesnt make the playoffs, blowing games int he playoffs for his team, and getting a C on his chin and pretending to be Captain. His next contract he will be paid double what Rick is paid, and for what? Jesus if you want to point to a successful goalie the Isles let go look at Osgood... he might not have the fancy stats but he comes up when it really matters, unlike Luongo.

Milbury is NOT HERE ANYMORE. Go taunt him about his decisions, its stupid to throw them in the faces of people that did not make them.

While Snow avoided the major mistake by making the no-brainer choice of Tavares, why take not one but two goalies with high picks? If DiPietro cannot play than buy him out, if he can, than stop using high picks on goalies. With much more glaring needs, the picks seemed pretty frivolous.

Another stupid mistake by Snow and company. You have a chance to draft Landon Ferraro and solidify yourself down the middle with a chance that the other Swedish goalie will still be there in round three and instead you pick TWO Tommy Salos. I must admit, drafting De Haan is not my problem, actually, i like the pick.But at 12? If he was on the radar all along and they had word he would be gone by 26 or 16, then garth did the right thing. I thought much more pressing needs like size were left on the board at 12, either a D man or a power forward, but thats just my opinion. Gotta trust garth here i guess. These are now issues i hope they address with free agents to some degree. As for the second round on, thats where i think they screwed up a bit. I understand the need for a netminder,and glad they got what they did, but the start of the second round should have been used on Carl Klingberg,he's got a nasty streak which they need, but hey, thats why garths GM and im not. Gotta trust his choices.
