I've been a Hawks fan for years and I'm glad they won but that penalty shot and game was handed to us by the referee.

It may have had an exhibition game atmosphere until the last 8 minutes and I agree the penalty shot shouldn't have happened, but the win got us 102 points and a bit of momentum. Get 'em tomorrow boys!

I will say that I have seen the Refs give other teams the penality shot on something similar to what the Wings player did. Not saying if it was a good call or not I will say that I loved seeing it. Now the Hawks have 102 points, and no matter what the Canucks did or the Flames did, or didn't do the Hawks took care of business themselves. I can't wait for the game tomorrow, it will be crazy, but not as crazy as it will be when the Playoffs start

The Hawks have been phenomenal this season and a blast to watch but that call was a giant steaming pile of you know what. Maybe the Wings will get a bogus call in their favor tomorrow.

Loved seeing the Cougar throwback sweaters and candy striped socks again. I wonder if the Hawks will wear their WC sweaters tomorrow.

Who know Buff could do so well on a penalty shot. Q should have used him on Wednesday against Columbus!

Hawks are putting it together at the right time. Nice to see Havlat keep his point run going - who would have thought he would have stayed healthy the whole year, let alone turn into the complete player that he has. Let's close it out on a good note yesterday, and get ready to jump all over the Flames in Game 1, who are running on fumes - they only dressed 15 players last night against the Oilers due to injuries and cap issues.

It was a marginal call but if the ref believed that Buff was impeded enough to stop a scoring chance he can call a PS. What I liked was the win legitimised our claim for fourth and home ice advantage. We won the position and it can't be said we backed into 4th because of the results of Calgary and vancouver games.
I wish everyone would stop saying we would rather play Calgary them vancouver. I can just see that weasel Keenan (actually I like the guy) using those comments from our fans to light a fire under his guys. Phaneuf, Iginla and Kiprosoff are going to be tough enough without extra motivation.

I've seen a couple times now on the Trib's site that the Hawks will be on WGN. I live in Virginia and checked WGN at 3 p.m. today (2 Central) and all I got was a Star Trek repeat. Does WGN actually broadcast Hawks games, or not?

Great to see the Hawks having great success especially against the Red Wings. Even better when the Hawks are playing more new youngsters, Jacob Dowell and Niklas Hjalmarsson decent minutes in the Red Wing game. Can the Hawks get any younger?

That call May have been a Bit off but... You dont give a Ref a chance to make that call by playing stupid with a 30 sec`s left in a game. Buff had a Break and in realtime on the ice i am sure it looked like a Penalty Shot infraction to the ref.

Good Call!

Easy to 2nd guess something when you are watching replays and slo mo. In real time it looked like a Penalty. Heck it was a close call either way.

It was definatly the right call.
Even though I don't like a refs call
deciding the outcome, I also don't like a rule infridgement decide the outcome. If Buf was not interfered with, he might have scored. That is why they have that rule.

A defender cannot use his stick from behind, using the leverage of the offensive player leg to lift his stick.
Those are the rules. And I am sticking to it

Not a bad ending for a public skate..As far as the refs handing us the game? Laughable at best. In the course of a season the calls even out. Oh and thanks for checking in Wing fan...After today may we meet again in the conference final...

Th Hawks might make it to the CF, but the Wings are primed for am early exit. This is not a good time to have your goaltending fall apart, and that's where they're at right now. I would be at all surprised if the Ducks oust them in Round 1.

Obviously, it was a confidence building win considering the struggles the Wings have given the Hawks this season. But, i think what pleased me most was the play of Huet in goal. The Hawks need him to start playing really well, as they'll not only need him to help Khabby in the playoffs, but Huet is going to be goalie #1 next season, as i have no doubt that mngt. will have to let Khabby walk after this season. The team's not going to offer up a contract that it would take to keep him, as i can perhaps see paying two goalies big money for one season, but not for anymore than that.

nope, unlike the cubs the hawks are not broadcast nationally on the superstation. i bit the bullet and got nhl center ice at the start of the year, so far its been a worthy investment.

i was at the game in person yesterday and i have to say that no matter what anyone says it was the best finish to a hawks game i can remember. the best part was the ticked off wings fans after. i got a lot of "lucky call!" and "its a meaningless game!" if its a meaningless game, why do you care about the call? one guy told me he'd see me in the playoffs. i told him, "don't forget your goaltending. oh wait, you don't have any!"

you know as well as the world knows that Kromwell didnt commit a foul on Dustin Byfuglien. He sure got screwed by that ref...the refs probably on the take. crooked very crooked...chicago knows we got friggin riped off...no way you can beat the Wings on any day without help from those crooked refs
