Flyers frustrated by Penguins again

Full story: The Morning Call

Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury certainly made it seem that way.

Flyers Blowout Sale! They will be giving away pucks for at least 3 more games.

What a horrible display of hockey. Can Alberts go one game without giving up a big juicy turnover? Can Scott Hartnell go a game without a stupid penalty?

Marty played well but got hung out to dry. Bench Alberts and dress Sbisa. He played very well early in the season.

Turn it around Friday, boys or break out the gold clubs. You won't rebound from a 2 - 0 deficit.

Nawwww, leave it "gold", liked that better.

I can't see how the Flyers failed to take advantage of the fact that Cindy and his Girls were playing so tight! How many times did you see a Flyer in the offensive zone surrounded by 3+ gayguins? They try that again Friday and the results better be different, Stevens needs to be all over that!

I agree, they loose Friday and it will be that other PA team in 5

Let's start now...."there is always next year". Will John Stevens have all summer to practice the fake frustrated look or is he going bye bye? As long as the owners are committed to entertainment and not a winning season, the Flyers are going to be same old.

Alberts is terrible, I've long been saying Sbisa should be playing or they should have put Alberts, not Ossi Vaananen on waivers. Hell even Lasse Kukkonen is better than Alberts. Alberts will have one nice check every 3 games but thats about the extent of his contributions for the Flyers. His contributions to the Flyers' opponents have been many.

Its true. As much as I like bully hockey, it simply won't win championships in the NHL anymore. The NHL is now the No Hitting League and has catered to Crosby and Ovechkin the leagues two biggest stars. I don't think Stevens is so much the problem but Holmgren screwed us at the deadline. Getting rid of Upshall for Carcillo was a huge mistake. I'm telling you that trade alone sank this season for the Flyers. After that trade the Flyers became about a .500 hockey club. Upshall statistically did not live up to expectations but he played hard and commanded a lot of respect in the locker room. Carcillo is too reckless and will do more to hurt the team then help us.

YES! At the last Flyers game I attended, there was a woman wearing an Upshaw jersey. Under his name was a taped statement that most Flyers fans would agree with. It simply stated "I hate Paul Holmgren". Bad trades are part of hockey. Too bad this one cost them a great season.

I'm 50/50 on Holmgren still, I don't hate him. Holmgren has made more good trades and acquisitions than bad ones. Coburn for Zhitnik, Forsberg for Upshall and Parent and picks, Sanderson and Pitkanen to Edmonton for Smith and Lupul. Timonen and Hartnell from Nashville. I think Holmgren failed to realise how much Upshall meant to the cohesiveness and chemistry of the team regardless of his statistical output. Upshall was not meant to be a prolific point getter he was a role player. Carcillo isn't a role player, he is just a goon on the level of a Tie Domi.

Can't deny your boys looked good. Played a solid defensive game and capitolized on Flyer mistakes. If the Orange and Black right the ship, you'll be crying tomorrow night. Should be fun.

Ol' brain-damaged Scottie looks like he's determined to singlehandedly sabotage the playoffs for your boys. Can he get his head out of his ass in time? We'll see.

The Penguins played a really solid game, but the Flyers also played bad and were undisciplined. If the Flyers can just stay disciplined and work hard, they'll get plenty of chances and shots on Fleury...they'll be able to crash the net. They also need to draw more penalties, and you do that by spending more time in the offensive zone, and drawing the Pens into hooking and tripping penalties. Hartnell can be aggressive and he can get under the opponent's skin, but he's got to realize the difference between aggression and playing out of control. The Flyers PK bailed him out and were lucky the Pens only went 1/6, cause with Crosby, Malkin, and Gonchar on a PP Unit, you're playing with fire.

But tomorrow's game will decide whether the Flyers have a shot at winning the series or if the Pens will go onto win the series. Tomorrow is game 7...the Flyers better be ready.

I can't disagree with anything you're saying, except that I don't think the Flyers have that many players who are good at crashing the net. They're more of a finesse team than they care to admit--even if every time they pull on those sweaters they think they're the Broad Street Bullies again.

"Cindy and his Girls?" "GAYguins?" You must be one of those long-tenured professors who never bothers coming in with anything new (and let's be honest: "Gayguins" was just pathetic to begin with). You guys can try to attack the Pens' collective manhood all you want, but last night it was pretty clear who the tougher team on the ice was. All the Hartnell and Coburn cheap shots in the world couldn't disguise the Flyers' weakness out there.

Dammit! A civil and objective reply to my rant! My only weakness!! Yes, the trash talk was pretty weak when considering the whumping the Pens put on us Weds night. I'm going to stick with my original impression that the Pens were getting way to aggresive backchecking. If they do the same tonight and the Flyers don't take advantage the series may not go five games.

On this forum last year, I was joking about how the Flyers were going to trade away all their skill players for goons in the offseason, and I guess I wasn't that far off the mark. They let Umberger go, and then this stupid Carcillo trade. You're absolutely right--trying to desperately hang on to some reputation from the 70s is going to kill this team year after year.

Well actually I didn't have a problem with Umberger going. It would have been nice to have him but when you have Richards, Carter, Briere, Biron, and others eating up the cap you have to let some guys go. I think the Flyers were hoping Claude Giroux was going to be be ready for the start of the season to take Umbergers place on the 3rd line. It just took him half of the season in the minors to adjust to professional hockey. They should keep Arron Asham and get rid of Cote and Carcillo. Cote, Carcillo, Jones, and Alberts need to go. It may be time to cut ties with Mike Knuble. I like him in front of the net, but he is too slow and isn't getting any younger. James vanRiemsdyk should put on at least 20lbs in the off season and at 6'3'' 230 the Flyers would have a new power forward.

Yours was civil and objective as well. And your original point is right. The Pens were really swarming the puck carrier at the blue line, and sooner or later somebody's going to find the open man.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Pisces

Are you feeling fraught? It certainly seems that way, perhaps because you've got far too much on your plate and not nearly enough time to tackle it all. Do yourself a big favor and start with whatever is most urgent, otherwise you'll waste time by dithering or getting caught up in trivial tasks. Above all, don't get into a panic because that will squander valuable time and energy.
