Good thing we locked up an average at best goalie to a 15 year deal. I hope this is the end of his career, so that the organization can move on. This 25 year rebuilding thing is starting to get on my nerves.

I'm pretty sure, that in 29 years of rooting for this team, that I've never seen things look bleaker. Sure, we have some talented young kids, but won't we "f" that up too? Its time to say adios to DP. Should have never let Luongo out of our site. but that is old news.

i mean, did things even seem this bad when the fisherman adorned the jersey? At least we had Ziggy for a short time then, oy.....

Man I miss Bill Torrey.

<quoted text>Who the hell is Lessard? Looked him up and his stats stink. This year with Chicago in the AHL he has six (6) goals. Last year he had one (1) goal in 19 games with Atlanta. We have plenty of that "talent" already in Tambellini, Bailey, Okposo. Nielsen and Bergenheim. Our only chance is to win the draft lottery; but who knows who they will choose or if they will trade down to get a new Zamboni operator.
Agree. Lessard is a nobody and I actually thought Brett Skinner was a decent defenseman. He was one of only a couple guys on the team that had a positive +/- rating this year...figures they'd get rid of him for a no talent winger.

Silence Dogood: Almost right, the cap hit is 4.5 a year I think, Which by the next round of free agent signings will be below the average pay for a starting goalie. Dp is a little light between the ears so I think he will retire as opposed to spending the next few years kickin it Pavano style.

As for the team moving, Not gonna happen, I read all the NHL sites, Rumor sites, fan sites and I have never seen a rumor that the isles are moving, I've seen Rumors that ATL, FLA and specifically PHO are in deep trouble, heck the other night on the NHL channel they were talking about the possibility of a dispersal draft for the Coyotes. I've seen KC and LV mentioned as possible expansion sites.

Remember that eventually the Idoit's running hempstead will have to explain why they were the only governing body not to approve a giant, privately funded Public works project when every politition in the country is tying to get a slice of the stimulus pie for there home town. Nassau can't afford not to have this approved.

When there is a place to pee, the fans will come.
PS I've been to a few Isle /Rags games at the NVMC and spoken to some of the Rag fans, and many have said that the reason they go to NYR games at the NVMC is because they can't afford tixx to MSG and aren't lucky enough to get Corp freebees. I've seen many games at MSG, all with free comp tixx, it's great cause you can get some business done, and every now an then the suits chant, and then ask what they were chanting for in teh first place, and then go right back to there blackberrys...

Isn't it funny-
Di Pietro is getting what's coming to him- He was responsible for getting the best Islander coach since Al Arbour fired- This same coach, Ted Nolan fought to keep Wade Dubielwicz here but Garth Snow didn't want to splurge and give him a little bump in salary- Jaffe's interview with Snow last night was also pretty funny- How's Scott Gordon doing ? Garth says "He's doing great" WTF ???
He looks like a deer in headlights, he has the worst record in the league and is preaching a "system" that doesn't work. It's all about the almighty dollar and the Islanders can't survive just on hosting the Rangers a few times a year- This seems to be the only time anyone ever shows up at Islander games- I know it sounds negative and harsh, but if you look at the economics of the situation, how can this team sustain these financial losses every year- We're not talking about loose change...we're talking up around 20 million bucks per year- It'll be a sad day when the Islanders fold- It's not a matter of "if" , it's a matter of when -

I have read it on Hockeybuzz & TFP..and of course it may be shear speculation; however the thought of this team moving or folding is heartbreaking. There should be no reason to talk about this at all; although this team has been mis-managed for the last 20 years.

Yes it is possible to make the ice bigger...just add water.

Could we all just hope that Ricky will retire....oh Lordy that woud be the best news since Milbury left.

I hate to bring this up but How does an X gm get any Tv time concerning hockey after the job he did on LI?

If this happens so much for rebuilding via the draft
Kovalchuk will pull another Kirk Muller and BEG to traded away..........nobody wants to be a part of this ridiculous circus of an organization- Word spreads like wildfire around this league and players just don't want to play for Charry, Garth and the real Captain ....Licky the Goh-rie.

Who could the Isles possibly trade for Kovalchuk anyway? No way Atlanta will accept a trade of players like Tambellini, Nielsen or Campoli. Unfortunately, to get a player of Ilya's caliber, they'd have to trade players like Okposo, Bailey and possibly their 1st rounder, which would be insane to trade if you're rebuilding.

As far as DiPietro is concerned, unless he somehow gets the Green Lantern's power ring & creates an energy shield around him, there's no way he'll be able to stay on the ice.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the trainers & conditioning staff. How come you never hear of teams like Anaheim or San Jose losing so many players to injury? Are the Isles just chronically injury prone? What's in their weight room, pizza? This isn't an isolated season either. Last year, the Isles had more players lost to injury than any team in the league & are on pace to do it again this year.

Poor John Tavares. He's either going to score 13 goals a year on this team or play 47 games a year with the Isles conditioning. If I was him, I'd consider holding out.

No, they can't just make the ice bigger. they'd have to remove seats and that means losing $ plus none of the arenas hold enough people to warrant putting a team in there. the Thomas and Mack (UNLV basketball arena) had the Thunder back in 93 (Butch and Bob Bourne were the coaches)and that ice was Smaller than the Boston Garden Iceand the Orleans arena where the Wranglers play (if you can call it that)may be even smaller than either of those. the Kings and Avalance have preseason game every year in the MGM Grand Garden arena and I have no idea how big that ice is. I refuse to pay $75 to watch a preseason game between 2 teams I don't like.

I've been to the corporate boxrs in the Garden many times and you forgot to mention that the suits never get their noses out of their martinis long enough to watch the game. As a matter of fact the ranger fans never get their heads out of their asses to watch a game either. They're to busy spewing vulgarities at the opposing players and fans or their own team if they don't win.

It really is a shame that there are about 5000 really dedicated fans at every game, but most are stuck up in the 300's which at the garden are VERY far from the ice.

Last game i went to I was sitting between two clients, and to my far right were two guys from wall street, a puck came off the ice to where we were sitting just at the edge of the netting, the puck came up and deflected off the wall right above this suit's head, and he didn't even notice, the crowd up top went WhooHH and he looked up from his notebook ( yes he had a notebook ) only after he heard the crowd noise, he could have died and didn't even know it....

I can only hope this loser's season or career is over. If we can get rid of Floppy than we might actually be able to move on. Mac has done a fine job to this point. He may not be a starter; however he is a solid backup! The upcoming draft should net the Isles some real talent! I may be wrong on this but is Luongo going to be a UFA after this season? If Wang would spend up to the cap we might get some talent in here! And as a by-product of having some talent they might actually sell tickets. I for one am more than fine with giving all of the Isles young guns a chance this season as long as we finish last and are going to get a top 3 pick.
I keep hearing that this team will be moving to vegas...what a shame!!! When the Isles won 4 cups they instilled a fan base for a lifetime if only ownerrship was as passionate as the fans!!!
Back in the late 70's I started following the Islanders. I still remember Clark Gillies beating the tar out of the NHL's tough guy Dave Schultz, and then little Gary Howatt doing it to Schultz a week later. I purchased season tickets in '81, and had them for a few years, til I got married.
During those years, the games were packed with a wild crowd, and we were treated to some great hockey by a great team.

How the owners went from having a very successful franchise to being the laughing stock of the league for many years is beyond comprehension. The team they have now is not worth paying to watch.

What a shame......

I've heard Rag fans trash Isles fans for throwing stuff on the ice at games, but what they don'y tell you is this...I was at a game once and the Officials were stinking it up, big time, on both sides. There wasa bad call and crap started to rain down from the 300, but those seat are so far from the ice, not much garbage made it to the ice. You see it seems that the people who cared enough to get mad were so far from the ice they couldn't reach it. It was funny to see the suits run for cover though. Calling over security, but security wanted no part of the animals

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Capricorn

You're keen to look on the bright side of things and to ignore anything unpleasant or worrying. That's fine, provided that you're ready to face up to life's difficulties again tomorrow. But it's not such good news if you persist in looking the other way whenever a problem presents itself, especially if it's connected with your work or health. It may be time to face a few facts, Capricorn.
