Full story: Newsday

What's left of Rick DiPietro 's season rests on a balky knee that hasn't responded well to surgery more than two months ago to repair meniscus damage, and the Islanders must consider the possibility of shutting ...

This is why you don't sign someone to a 15 year contract. DiPietro is going to be a salary cap albatross for more than the next decade! What a disaster.

Wang must GO ! Now that it's clear that he's not going to get his "lighthouse project" done he should sell the team to a real hockey guy.The county should have replaced the colo when times were good, now its dire straits again.Maybe its time for a move.Sad, real sad.

I guess bringing back Dubie shows that there is nothing in the minors worth bringing up.What the hell give Mannino a shot ,it can't hurt.

I have this sick feeling that by this time next season, DiPietro will be retired due to his injuries.

I can only hope this loser's season or career is over. If we can get rid of Floppy than we might actually be able to move on. Mac has done a fine job to this point. He may not be a starter; however he is a solid backup! The upcoming draft should net the Isles some real talent! I may be wrong on this but is Luongo going to be a UFA after this season? If Wang would spend up to the cap we might get some talent in here! And as a by-product of having some talent they might actually sell tickets. I for one am more than fine with giving all of the Isles young guns a chance this season as long as we finish last and are going to get a top 3 pick.

I keep hearing that this team will be moving to vegas...what a shame!!! When the Isles won 4 cups they instilled a fan base for a lifetime if only ownerrship was as passionate as the fans!!!

Where is this "moving to Vegas" stuff coming from. There is absolutely no talk about it here. Even the talk about building a new arena has stopped and none of the existing arenas have a regulation size ice.

I havent heard that either. Indy or KC is more likely..

However, with regards to the rink argument.. you know they can just make the ice bigger right?

Who the hell is Lessard? Looked him up and his stats stink. This year with Chicago in the AHL he has six (6) goals. Last year he had one (1) goal in 19 games with Atlanta. We have plenty of that "talent" already in Tambellini, Bailey, Okposo. Nielsen and Bergenheim. Our only chance is to win the draft lottery; but who knows who they will choose or if they will trade down to get a new Zamboni operator.

The 15 year deal with Ricky was looked upon as odd. However, the organization wanted to lock him up for a long period of time and pay him a substancial amount of money. Let's say that they only did a four year deal at that time, the cap hit on the money that they agreed to would have been huge. By laying it over 15 years, the cap hit was much lighter on a per-year basis.

As with all NHL contracts, if a player retires DUE TO INJURY, then the contract is paid by insurance and the yearly total does not apply to the cap. If a player retires on his own, then the team is no longer obligated to pay the salary (unless stipulated in the contract as a guarantee. Then the cap hit is only 60% and decreases to 40% and 20% each year until the contract expires or last longer than four years.

Anyway, the Islanders need not worry about the salary cap "ceiling" (max amount of player salary) as they are much closer to the salary cap "floor" (minimum amount of player salary).

The Lighthouse project that Mr. Wang wants was pushed through the County but it is now stalled at the Town of Hempstead. The only way this team stays here is if the Lighthouse project goes through.

Looks like DP the tin man is coming apart faster than my friend the scarecrow. So this coming ever since Isle's dumped Loungo and said this guy was the franchise. Very over rated goalie. Can name a dozen or more that are better and more deserving of a good contract....Hockey Rumor has Isle's sending their 2009 pick and some players possibly to Atlanta for Ilya Kovalchuk. If this happens so much for rebuilding via the draft
