What Gordon's intentions are? Are you kidding you mean Snowjob, he runs everything and next year instead of watching playoff the Islanders again will be watching to see what player they will get in the draft. What a joke this is, get some good players a good GM and a good Coach. Oh by the way and owner who wants to win , not show he needs the Lighthouse to build a winning team.

Getting rid of Dan Lacroix is not the answer to this teams problems- CONTINUITY is the key- Should have kept Ted Nolan in place with his staff- Nolan brought the most excitement to this organization in years- He's a coach players want to play for- Nolan is a coach that good quality free agents would gladly want to play for- NOBODY wants to play for this no-nothing knucklehead Scott Gordon- Go ahead Garth, tear down the organization even more by bringing in another Massachusetts faggot to say YES to everything you, Scotty and Ricky say- It's a joke....a complete F%#king joke-

Jeez this is so poorly written ... Are we going to get a hint over who this defensive assistant with Islander ties is? Or is this Angels & Demons and we'll get another crappy 1 page cliffhanger tomorrow. I get it. Let's just start guessing instead. Stefan Perrson? Gord Lane? Paul Boutilier? Gerald Diduck? Randy Boyd? Steve Konroyd? Vladimir Malakhov? Rich Pilon? Uwe Krupp? Dennis Vaske? Am I getting close yet?

It'll probably be Ken Morrow-
It's always the same ole sheet-
One step forward, two steps back-
They never stick with a plan or a staff-
The coaching and training staff that won all the cups in the 80's were with the team several years before they started really contending and ultimately winning-
What doesn't Garth Snow get about continuity and consistency ?

Such anger. Where's the love? One year behind the bench and you're condeming the coach. I think his assistants need to be changed. Give the guy a break. No coach could work with what he didn't have, a consistant line up. The coliseum was the west wing of NCMC. Ken Morrow..good pick if they offer him the job. He had two of the best teachers/Coaches in the game...Herb Brooks who knew how to work with younger players and Al Arbour ...nuff said. I wonder if Gerry Hart is interested. Talk about a player with tenacity! With our luck we'll get Dave Lewis. Hey, maybe Brent Sutter will be looking for a job as an assistant.

You people are ridiculous! Name one sport where the manager or head coach doesn't get an opportunity to pick his own coaching staff? The reason Lacroix and Chabot were kept on last year is because Gordon wasn't hired until August. And WTF have those guys ever done anyway? It's not like they got rid of Scotty Bowman and Herb Brooks here. Every little piece of news about this team is viewed by it's lousy fanbase as the end of the world. This is really NOT a big deal. If the team trades the #1 pick for a bunch of 2nd rounders, then you can bitch all you want. The coaching change doesn't warrant complaints.

What's more important than the assistant coaching change is that the team is FINALLY getting rid of their strength and conditioning coach after two injury riddled seasons. This was long over due IMO as players were dropping like flies all season long.

Aaaaah(soothing), a voice of reason. thank you. If my memory serves me correctly Al Arbour didn't have a winning season until his second year as coach? If these dolts (fans)were in charge back then, he would have been canned after the first year. Interesting thing last night. Mike Milbury said " I hope the Bruins win". Hmm I wonder if that's why he let Charra go to them. He nver let go of his past. Maybe that's why he made all the ridiculous moves he made. He never wanted the Islanders to win.

Yes, there are fans that clearly want to complain about everything. This was expected to happen. I was going to joke that it's kind of odd for the Isles to take care of this right now. Why didn't they wait until a week or two into training camp? That would have matched the old M.O. more closely. This is almost like they're planning ahead for next season or something.

Crazy talk.

Chabot and Lacroix were Nolans guys-
After Nolan got fired/screwed...they knew all along that Scott Gordon would be his successor- They wanted to keep a few experienced assistants around to try and show Gordon the ropes- Not sure they succeeded but now Gordon can go out and get some Massachusetts HS coach and another minor leaguer to replace Ted Nolan's guys- Tavares/Hedman...it won't matter- I predict a worse season in 09-10- This is a sinking ship-
Very Sad-

a worse season? Very doubtful unless okoposo and other key players get hurt. They won 3 games in like 2 months and played well the last 30 games to close out the season. This was very expected. We defininitely new assistants. I cant believe that people love Nolan so much. Yes the team overachieved with him but they also had a top flight goalie at the time in Dipietro. They did not have him this past year. Stop making Nolan out to be this great great coach. His power play s8CKED!! Atleast under Gordon, you see the team knows how to set up a real powerplay! Yea getting streit helped but it wasnt all Streit, even with him out of the lineup you saw the powerplay managed properly. With Okposo and bailey getting better the PP will only improve. Then adding tavares in front of the net will help some more when he develops(hopefully they draft him). So if you want to complain if the islanders do not take Tavares, I will be right there with you, but this is nothing to complain about. You should be happy they are getting new assistants.

Another thought: focusing on an assistant to coach the defense? Is that because they're thinking about drafting a defensive centerpiece that they want to develop to lead them through the next decade?

I'd have no problem with that at all but I know some of you are all about Tavares.

Dude, my gripe is that if Gordon doesn't get it done in a year or so, they'll dump him too and be back to the drawing board....Again- With Ted Nolan they had the things in place, primed and ready to build- by dumping Nolan after 2 decent seasons they took a few steps backward-
You can't just start from scratch- the trick is to build on what's already there-
No, ted Nolan is not Scotty Bowman, but he's a heck of a lot better than Scott Gordon will ever be- Snow didn't like that Nolan was more important to the franchise than he was....period- Can't argue the fact that players played hard for Nolan- As far as a power play goes- Stop- You need speed and the Islanders had none under Nolan- But he still squeaked out alot of games he probably shouldn't have-

Very poor analysis. They had decent (at best) seasons under Nolan but there was absolutely no reason to believe things were getting better. They were worse in his last season than in his first.
Your criticism of Snow's motivation for firing is pure speculation with nothing solid to back it whatsoever.

Where your analysis is truly and horribly incorrect is on the power play. The PP is the place where you least need to rely on speed. A good setup and smart plays are all that's needed. Specifically, the PP got progressively worse during Nolan's seasons even while using the same players. That's poor coaching. When they used Hunter or Fedotenko in front of the net just trying to deflect well placed shots and/or clean up the garbage on rebounds they were successful. They usually tried to do complex things instead and they failed miserably.

That said... I actually liked Nolan as the Isles coach but your revisionist history attempting to make him seem brilliant and everyone else seem stupid or underhanded is not productive.

Please stop with the Nolan talk. He still has no job...that should tell you enough.

Like someone else said-Gordon had no say in his asst. coaches last year-
In all fairness to Gordon-this upcoming season will either show he has the ability to coach at this level-or he is way over his head...especially with the recent history of this franchise. I believe he can coach and the Isles begin to make baby steps towards earning respect around the league again.

Whats most important to this franchise-is the draft. One day-people might look back at this draft as what saved the franchise or even worse...a blown opportunity.
