Full story: Newsday

Sutton was horrible before he got injured, he was the #1 garden gnome on defense. Speaking of defensmen, I had to watch the Carolina broadcast of Friday nights game. There was a discussion about the Norris trophy candidates and the announcer emphatically said that Marc Streit should be without a doubt the Norris Trophy winner this year based on his play and what he has done for the Islanders. The play by play man fully agreed.

STEVE STAMKOS- TB's 1st pick in last years draft- where's he been, what's he done ? Tavares is not a quick fix and there's no guarantees he'll even be a middle-of-the-road NHL player- The Islanders have bigger problems than worrying about getting Tavares in their line-up next season- He's just one guy-

Stamkos played on the 3rd line until just recently. Since he's started to get more ice time, his production has greatly increased. Not to mention, he's basically third in the offensive pecking order behind Lecavalier and St Louis. Tavares will probably be a first or second line center immediately, will get way more opportunities and has a more NHL-ready body than Stamkos did last year. Not to mention Tavares is a better scorer and playmaker. Keep in mind, If Tavares would have been the first overall pick in last year's draft had he been old enough.

Obviously Tavares is one guy, so is Stamkos. Having the right players around them is what makes a young player good. Rarely is a draft pick ever a quick fix and the Isles aren't looking for one. Building a team through the draft, Bridgeport and free agency is whats going to work for the long run. Even if Tavares becomes a middle of the road player we stil have plenty of other prospects to look at.

Hmmmmm... I really like Hillen, but I don't think it would be so terrible for him to play on the Sound Tiger squad that will be heading itno the playoffs!

The bigger problem is the disfunctional business end of the organization that will not allow the team to keep the better players after they've used the Islander organization to learn how to play in the NHL - Youth is great but youth alone won't win championships-I can see them getting close but they won't be close enough- You solve the problem by stablizing the business end of the team with a good GM and Coach players want to play for- You can't just be the team that takes on players because nobody else wants them...this is how the team is now- Gotta somehow change that culture-

Jack Hillen is the greatest "D Man" in the history of hockey! And Okposo is the... he he, sorry I can't continue. BTW, Tavares will be a bum if the Islanders get him. over and out.
