Islanders deal Guerin to Penguins for draft pick

Full story: Newsday

Maybe it's the slumping economy, but whatever the reason, the majority of NHL general managers were not the profligate spenders they have been at past trade deadlines.

Rangers should embarrass the Islanders tonight-
By the third period the Islander fans will be heading for the exits like they've always do and have always done-

Have fun with mediocre players (see: Drury, Gomez, Redden, ETC.) filling your cap space for the next 5+ years.

Wade Redden.....HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Whew, sorry.

Wait....AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH A!!!!

And to think, Rag fans were excited about getting Drury and Gomez!!! Once again proving that Rag fans are not hockey fans!

I wish we could have gotten a 2nd rounder for Bill Guerin, but I guess that's the best Garth Snow could do. I still like the trade as it is part of the long term rebuilding process that needs to take place.

Life Long Islander Fan from the first day of the franchise. Want to be excited or optimistic, but I don't see a plan. Talk of youth movement and rebuilding is useless without a plan and a core of talent. Do we have any real talent to develop and build around?

PS, Nassau and Hempstead politicians better get going on approving arena project or pay price at polls.

Why is there no investigative reporting occurring about the delays and hold-ups regarding the new arena (Light House) project? Would like to know who is for it who is against it and why.

Ok Mike from nowhere. Does it not say your location because you are afraid you might eat those words? They should kill the Islanders but then again, they are the Rangers - the biggest underachieving team in hockey year after year.

I have been an Islander fan since the very first season and in fact wore #15 as a college lacrosse player in honor of Billy Harris. Plz either ship Gordon and Snow to KC or ship the Team there and I can become a Deviles fan and root for Brent (#21) Sutter and Jeep's kid Zach Parise. This franchise has a solid core of kids but I have little faith that they will be properly developed! Sad...

I was worried about this as soon as I heard that C.W. was dumping vetrans to pursue a 'youth movement'. This is the same thing that the Milstein brothers tried to do once they were done with the 'NVMC is falling down' legal routine.
Wang is trying to build his mini lighthouse empire on the lot, and once again, the fans are suffering due to the machinations of the ownership.
The real reason fans aren't coming to the games is because the team has fallen into a viscious cycle of executive ineptitude over the past two decades. Bad owners have led to bad executive decisions and poor hockey decisions. This has left the team with a horrendous trend in player management ultimately leading to 20 years of futile hockey play.
George Steinbrenner tried this sort of blackmail back in the early 1990's complaining about the Bronx and the poor state of affairs around Yankee Stadium. Lo and behold, a few winning seasons and a championship or two and all of a sudden, the stands were packed.
Improve the team and set up a skilled group of execs in house and you will see the fans return.
