The Guerin deal has become almost as stale and tiring as Rick DiPietro being the back-up goalie earlier in the season. I'm looking forward to 3PM, and I hope the Isles actually move some of these vets.

1 I was reading yesterday he wnt be traded. In fact...he might be the next captain if Guerin is traded. Im with Carl-very stale... |

Unfortunately we don't get much hockey news out here and I really have no idea of what's going on back on the Island but from what news I do get it sounds like the entire situation is getting stale. This guy doesn't like the coach; the coach doesn't like this guy; Snow wants Thumbellina to get more ice time;the system doesn't work;the Lighthouse project; Blah blah blah. I have month old bread in the drawer that isn't as stale as this soap opera.

1 Also, WTF are they doing putting Sim on waivers when he's suddenly bringing more offense than anyone else on the team?! Oh right, they don't want the team to win games so they can have a good shot at the 1st draft pick...this is starting to be Mickey Mouse. I mean, doesn't Sim have some sort of trade value? Do you have to just throw him on waivers?? |

sim has no trade value. his 3 point game was a fluke. he has 15 points in 49 games this season. his career high is 32 points. Keeping him is pointless. hes a character player. Guess what the whole team is supposed to be character players. Id rather keep park for his character over sim. guarntee he passes waivers

Forget about points-
Richard Park is the best player on this team....period. |

Another embarrassing situation that is being mishandled by management. Why put Sim on waivers? If there was interest in him he would have been traded for draft picks, no? Why criticize Witt and every other veteran on this team? Why trash the team Captain who is, by the way, the teams point leader? Why because some Isle fans have bought into this "youth movement" garbage. Truth is, the powers that be are dumping salaries and any type of leadership that may question the incompetent coach and GM. Look through this Lighthouse project smoke screen and you will see that all Wang is interested in is enriching his real estate investments in the surrounding areas. We need an arena and management that will command respect among the league not a lighthouse. Pessimism is not a productive philosophy but neither is ignorance. A coach and a GM that are learning as the go is unacceptable as is their level of arrogance with the media and the players. Isles fans deserve more and should expect more. It's time to wake up.

A few weeks ago I watched an Islander Home game that was broadcast on the visitng teams network. The announcers were talking about the Lighthouse project/new arena and they stated taht the Coliseum may need a little bit of touch up, comsemtic work whatever but it sstill is one of the bgest venues to watch a hickey game in and the size amkes it much nicer than some of the cavernous arenas in the league. Mondays nites game was broadcast on VS and those announcers did nothing but pan and degrade the coliseum..."it will be the oldest building in the league after the Penguins get their new home, the Devils, Boston , Montreal all have new buildings, blah blah blah". The Boston Garden and Montreal forum were how old before new arenas were built...50+ years? The colisuem is how old, not even 40? One group of announcers say that it's a great building and the other announcers on a national broadcast say the place stinks. Seems strange that the building is berated all over the country on a national network where they have a larger audience. Who got to who to get the VS crew to say this stuff?(before anyone says it, yea I know supposedly nobody watches the games on VS, mainly because a lot of cable networks don't carry the station)

You write that like Garth Snow is intentionally stalling to mess with Guerin |

Streit is the team's point leader. Guerin is the team's goal leader with 16...big f'n deal |

The only way the coliseum remains a good place to see a game is because your team plays there. For everyone else (and a lot of islander fans, actually) the place is a dump. If the Islanders played in the Izod center it would be an upgrade, and that's the Devils' old arena. |
|||
Thanks. Glad that's all you got out of the post. When will management eventually turn on Streit? He must be a good soldier. |

Gordon and Snow have not handled the Guerin situation well at all. All they are showing is how messed up their management is. By placing Guerin "under the bus", it is showing even more players that they don't want to come to the Island to be treated like a piece of crap. Guerin has done nothing but work hard and act professional (may not be lighting up the league, but no one on this team is). Wish Gordon & Snow acted as professional as Guerin has.
As far as the Arena - it's a dump. Ask any player that comes into it and they will tell you. Trading Campoli and Comrie was a good move though. |
||||
What happened to the Brendan Byrne arena? |
||||
I can see how that could be mis-construed now that I re-read my post but that's really not what I meant. I guess what I meant to say was that nothing should have been announced or done until the ink was dry on a deal. Someone in the organization must have spouted off to the media that a deal was done. Or maybe the media saw Guerin get scratched and just ran with the story on their own...still, it's obvious that the original Guerin deal fell through and now he's being strung along and that's a crappy situation to be in. Nice siggy, btw! |

TSN reports: Bill Guerin to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a conditional draft pick. The draft pick can be as high as a 3rd rounder if the Penguins win a playoff series. It's a 4th rounder if they make the playoffs and a 5th rounder if they miss the playoffs. That's as good as we were going to get for a 36 year old that we weren't even going to try and re-sign |

Snow probably had a deal fall through on him and you can't have him play while you're getting a trade done. Unfortunate, but were the Islanders supposed to do. |

I didn't think anything else you wrote should be dignified with a response. Wang wants the entire project because he, as an intelligent person, knows that in order to boost attendance/income in good times AND bad times, people need a reason other than the Islanders to come to the Coliseum. When the team is playing very well, the tickets sell themselves. However, he is a businessman and as a business he knows that you ALWAYS have a sensitivity report. A plan in case things do not go as planned. He loses about 20 million dollars a year because of this franchise. I think he has proven his commitment to making the Islanders better. The conspiracy theorist BS is not even worth reading. |
|||
Well, guess I'll be routing for Pittsburgh to win a playoff series this year. This deal makes Ottawa's GM look like a dope for giving up a 1st round pick and McAmmond for Campoli and Comrie. |
