This article says it well. The two people that make the most sense to move are Raycroft and Kubina. I'd say Raycroft deserves about 15 games to prove himself. As far as Kubina, dump him to the first team that shows interest. And maybe pick up a right winger in the trade. Even if he's a 3rd line player, just freeing up the cap space is justification enough. I think JFJ knows he's under the gun this season, and if he can't trade Kubina, watch for him to be in a Marlies jersey ASAP.

I stick by my post as far as trading Kubina goes, but after thought(and finding out he has a one way contract) I rebuff the comment about sending him down. Not only would that not work, but it would also be an acknowledgement by JFJ that Kubina isn't worth the contract he signed him to. That equals career suicide, but I think his time as GM is numbered as it is. Still if Kubina has another season like the last one, sending him to the minors would be sweet justice, even if it is only out of spite

I actually agree with you, he wasen't worth 5 million but he wasen't really all that bad. There weren't too many glaring mistakes from him last year.

I'd be willing to give Kubina another chance this year, if only because of the money invested in him. But the truth is the Leafs need the cap space that he took up with this contract that was signed. That's surely not Kubina's fault, who wouldn't go for the money? But the fact the team has had to go without say... Peca. That's enough of a reason for me to ship his ass wherever he needs to go to make room for someone we know will make a difference on this team. The Leafs have enough defense with or without Kubina. I'll give him a shot this year...if only for the fact that it will justify JFJ's decision to pay him so much.

Just think of what a difference that would've made if McCabe didn't have that 5.5 million dollar contract with a no trade clause!

I mean, we wouldn't have to worry about Kubina and there would be a better chance that we could have Peca back, or even could've made some more up grades this summer.

common mccabe has not a great seasone and everbody is saying get rid of him. if you guys know anything about hockey then you would know that people tend to have some off seasons. i know it was a big contract and lots of money but hes got 4 years left. we are going to get our moneys worth out of him. peca is good but we dont need him. the problem with the leafs is that they dont take a couple of years to rebuild. like ottawa and buffalo. a few years ago they were not very good. but they didnt keep around or go out and sign these vetrens that use to make a diffrence. they took there time and now are really good teams. but the leafs cant do that because... well its the leafs and the fans would go nuts if the leafs tried to rebuild. the only player in the nhl that is a vetren that dosent rack up the points anymore but still makes a difference is gary roberts. good job by pittsburg to get him!

McCabe hasen't been the same player as he was since the game 5 of the 2004 playoffs. The year after the lockout, he would only score from a booming slapshot, and that happened only because he had passes spoon fed to him by Kaberle. McCabe just simply can't take care of things in his own end. As soon as the league started to figure out about McCabe's slapshot, his scoring went down. Oh and as for Peca, they don't need him? The reason why they got him was because he was a defensive forward. Did you not notice how our penalty kill went South after he was injured??? That's more or less what they got him for. Not to score but to help on defense more or less.

As for McCabe, in '05-'06 I was one of the few whom didn't like him, now from this last year, I'm not so alone. His role is a defenseman, but he can't actually defend and play in his own zone, specially when pressured. It's not his scoring that bugs me, it's the way he plays when he's pressured, or when the play is in his zone that does. However, if you stick around, or come back in a year, and he turns it around I'll be more then happy to say that I was mistaken. I hate him because I'd like him to be smarter with the puck, and more responsible without it.

Good choice about Gary Roberts by the way!!!
