The heads of the NHL need to stop killing the NHL and bring back the good old days of hockey.

The NHL big wigs need to start fining the officials too. How many times have we heard "I did'nt see it".

If hockey is to grow, the bias to the USA teams needs to be looked at. The officials seem to favor the Canadien teams.

I do agree with you that the reffing is worse then ever. However, I cheer for a Canadian team and on most nights we get called more then our opponents. The problem in my humble opinion is that the chincy crap gets called, and half the things they call today is absolute crap, while players may do something blatent and get away with it. They should just let the players play and then if there is anything blatent they should call it.

That fine was just so the NHL can show it does something...even if that something is make up a random amount of money and make some randomly chosen guy pay it.

Also pointing out:

Heatley first shoved Kaleta in Thursday Night's game so hes just asking to get smacked around.

The thing with Mair going directly after Spezza could have been handled differently but Heatley definetely deserved to get a beating.

Chris Neil doesn't understand basic principles. He was wondering why Ottawa doesn't go after Briere and Roy just like how the Sabres went after Spezza. He fails to realize that in the first place he went after and knocked out our captain.

(This doesn't require much brain capacity)

I can't blame Lindy for sending his tough guys over if there was a supposed cheap shot on Drury. I didn't see it but, Ottawa has a reputation of making cheap shots and getting away with it. If the refs aren't going to call something blatent then it is up to the players. Most of the time they will call something like hooking when the guy just lifted his stick up and didn't even hold the guy back, which is totally crap. Yeah I'm glad on the obstruction rules however, they should be able to distinguish what should be a penalty and what shouldn't.

Good point. Ottawa is truly one of the dirtiest teams in the NHL. Generally can't fight, but they take cheap shots galore.

Yep, all the way from checking from behind to taking one of our rookie defensmen's ankles this year in the preseason. Known for dishing it out, then running away and acting like they didn't do it.

You want to bring back the six team NHL and seventy game schedule. It probably one of the best times of the NHL. NHL expansion from six to thirty has been a disaster for the NHL. The goon garbage has been a disaster for the NHL. The nonsense between Buffalo and Ottawa is probably the reason why NBC has a zero U.S. dollars contract with the NHL.

I agree with you about the goons. The players have lost a lot of respect for each other. The NHL needs to crack down on these cheap shots, like blindsiding from behind and late hits, so that cheap shot artists don't take out star players.

eh, if you don't play Hockey on the edge, you lose.
BUT
The cheap, cowardly,'Bert' type stuff should be discouraged. If it appears as if the penal sytem isn't working, then:
> Multiply fines and suspensions by 3.
> Make the return date of suspensions contingent/proportional to the (fully functioning) return date of the victim.
> Hold the offending team acountable by losing up to a mil (?) of salary cap.
I bet that would change things.

I agree, hockey is a tough sport and I'm not discouraging good clean plays, it's just when unskilled players make Bertuzzie type plays on guys like Thomas Kaberle I(Janssen on Kaberle). It's dirty cheap shots, players going out of their way with the intent to injure the other team's best players that is the problem. It's happening more and more. If the NHL doesn't crack down like they did towards the end of the season it will get more and more out of hand. There's nothing wrong with tough hockey or a good hard hit though.
