Ted Nolan thinks the penaly was way too harsh? That it would've been OK to keep Simon out of the regular season but not the playoffs.
He'd better take another look at the tape. Simon swung the stick at Hollweg's neck with intent to injure. That fact that he didn't doesn't diminish the seriousness of the act.
Nolan should be thankful Simon can come back at all. He should've been banned for life.

Hollweg is no angel in all of this 'ya know.

What Simon did was totally wrong but Hollweg's "hit" gave Simon a concussion.

And Hollewg's "hit" was AWAY from the play, in the NEW NHL that is supposed to be a penalty!

Of course it may be the NEW NHL but it's still the same old 2 blind mice refs on the ice.

Where the second hit is the one that always draws the penalty.

And what about that goon Donnie Brashear's cold cock decking of Witt at the Coliseum. Only a 2 min penalty.

That was an after the play was over hit.

Where was the 5 min penalty there??????

And at least a 1 game suspension!

“Do what you must!”

I agree with you on everything except the last part. I don't think that he should of been ban for life. I think that the penalty that was given to him was fair. Still it have no excuse for it but he did looked pretty out of it.

I think the penalty was way too harsh. He should have been suspended for 15 games and then 7 playoff games. If Hollweg wasnt such a goon this would never happen!

Do Ted Nolan or Brendan Witt even realize how ridiculous they sound? The reason, for the thousandth time, boys, that Simon was given the suspension he was is because he's had so many aggressive on-ice behavior suspensions before. This is a problem with Chris Simon, not the NHL. Just think about it. If he had done the same thing on the outside to somebody he would've been arrested for assault. Simon said that because he had gotten a concussion he "didn't realize" what he was doing. Did he have concussions ALL the other times he did these other things on-ice?
And Brendan Witt needs to focus on the game and the playoffs and keep his mouth shut. He made his point now stop gasbagging every time a reporter is within hearing distance of you.

Simon accuse Hollweg of calling him the dreaded "N" word. Then all the politically correct idiots would forgive and support Simon.

I wonder if you people would be so quick to defend Simon if he did this to a player on your team or if he did it to someone in your family. I doubt it. Face it what he did was WRONG, there is absolutly no justification for taking your stick and using it like a baseball bat. Also this isn't the first time that he has been in trouble for violence on the ice. He deserved what he got. And the ones who are actually defending him should stand out there and let someone hit them in the face with a hockey stick! And then lets see how quick you are to defend him. I saw the whole thing and I would pay money to see his medical records where he suffered a "concussion" I've seen smaller guys get hit a lot harder and not react the way he did nor receive a concussion. Plus I think what made it worse is that he showed no remorse for what he did, even after the game. People tend to think this isn't so bad because Hollweg wasn't seriously injured but he could of been. If the stick would of hit a little higher or a little lower, he could have been KILLED. This is simply not acceptable! I would punish my child if he did something like this.

And Wit is an IDIOT. And Hollweg's hit wasn't away from the play, he was already in motion to lay the hit. You are permitted to finish a check! Stop trying to make excuses for an action that was unexusable because you know you would be singing a different tune if Simon layed the hit and Hollweg used his head as a baseball!
