Thank goodness someone in the Islander front office came to their senses! Yashin has been an albatross for this franchise for the last 3 or 4 seasons. Lets hope we don't feel the same way about DiPietro in 6 or 7 years when he will still have 7 or 8 years left on his goalie for life contract.

Lets start hearing about how the Isles will start spending some of the that new found money they are saving with Yashs' exit. I understand that all Isles merchandise is being marked down as much as 90% this weekend at the Coliseum. Is this some kind of garage sale? Are they hurting more financially, then we are led to believe?

What senses? They gave Ricky a 15 year deal! What are the chances that turns into a huge mistake?

It makes you wonder how Wang made all his money.

That dipietro contract is a no brainer, worst case he gets hurt and retires, contract is null and void, mid case he becomes a backup, still worth the money, best case he stands on his head for is whole career and his price is a bargain.

Yashin's dollars were WAYYY too much.

DP is an entirely different kind of person and player. Just look at how he made himself come back for the playoff without saying anything about the hip injury. Fact is he played half a season like that. That contract will be one of the smartest things they did. By the way I didn't see former Islanders or we could have had these players if not for the trades do anything in the Stanley Cup finals (ie Redden, Spezza, Heatley.)
We are headed in the right direction now. Bring back the Royal Blue and Orange jerseys and drop those stupid bars for next season.

Yeah, who needs Redden, Spezza & Heatley? They only made it to the Cup final & lost. Do you know the last time the Islanders made it to the Cup Final?

I agree with Don Cherrypicker
Also, we will continue to feel the effects of not having these
"currently worthless" ex or should have-had-Islanders for a long time. Let`s not jump on the wagon so fast. Yes, it`s great that Yash is out and we "appear" to be moving in the right direction again, but given the past years of decision making of Wang, I`m going to wait and see what silly contracts he will offer to what people in the off season before getting too excited.

P.S. As far as Benders the Rangers fan`s comments on D.P.`s contract. Unfortunately, Wang gave D.P. the clause that if D.P. can`t play anymore due to injury, he still get`s paid the full amount of the contract. Even though D.P. may be close to the next best thing to Luongo in stopping the puck, and possibly the top of them all in heart, fight and puck handling, his first year into this huge contract he sustained injuries that will come back time and time again to effect his level of play. Sorry guys but expect to see Dubbie a little more often until....
