I have to wonder what kind of normal guy would sit around knitting with Nancy Boys.

The main thing I have noticed about knitters is that they are all extremely smart. No exceptions. All people who knit are smart. It's better than going to a Mensa meeting.

I have to wonder, Sissy, what IS a normal boy to you?? Someone who calls himself "Sissy Spacesick" and writes ignorant comments on a great article about a really cool bunch of people?? Who maybe is a little bit more interested in guys than he's comfortable with?? You know, the kind of guy who is always quick to spout bigotry from his mouth when he feels a little flutter of excitement in his belly?

You're the freak here. Get a life.

Everybody needs something to do with their hands, I guess. Interesting that the best knitters apparently are men and that women tend to be better pistol shots than men.

There's research to show that the physical act of knitting helps reduce stress levels so why not for men, too?

"According to research conducted at the Harvard Medical School Mind-Body Institute, the repetitive action of knitting and crocheting create a relaxation response. The institute's research shows that a knitter or crocheter's heart rate can drop 11 beats a minute and that blood pressure also drops."

Hi,

I am an Editor at www.FaveCrafts.com and I just love the idea of men crafting. It shows a whole different side to them. We have found that 8% of our readers are men, and we hope to continually gain more male readers.

We also have a blog post about men who sew and they truly like the hobby. You can find this blog at http://www.favecraftsblog.com/men-who-sew/

Men out there really need to continue this hobby and spread the news on how great crafting can really be.

Enjoy!

It's about time men were allowed to show-off their talents and abilities in this area. When I was in high school, I begged to be allowed to work in "Industrial Arts" where I knew I had the talent to build something having helped my Grandfather & Uncle build a boat from scratch. I loved the smell of freshly sawed wood. I remember the teacher looking in me in the eye and saying "Go back to the Home Ec. Department where you belong". Girls are lucky today as that is no longer an issue. It is important that we teach are kids to be the best that they can be and to be true to themselves. I might mention that I am Dan Sikorski's Mom, and his Dad and I support him all the way. You go son!

Congratulations to the shop owner. I too am a shop owner and have always thought it would be great if we could get men knitting. Of course, I live in far too macho a state for something wonderful like men's knit night (I tried) so guys keep on knitting and crocheting and please spread teh word and your talent!

Well..."Sissy"...you would probably find a bunch of really fun "normal" guys that are very bright, have good jobs, help with charitable organizations, have very high I-Q's, have college degrees, are devoted to their familys, and are honest and hard working. Maybe it is because they had good parents that taught them that bigotry is wrong at any level. You need to examine your own issues with hemophobia before you judge others. Or better yet....learn to knit!!!

I don't think that the author of this article did any research. There are a lot of men that do knitting and needlepoint out there. I personally have met a lot of them. The art of knitting was a male dominated art/work form for hundreds of years. The industrial revoluation changed a lot of things.
To the person who did this by line, go to ALL of the knit shops in the area-Columbus, Powell & Dublin- and do your research. Then I would like to see a better article from you.

Wow, I'm a male and do counted cross stitch. Knitting was always too challenging for me since I have a difficulty with consistent stitch tension.

Although the influences around now tend to give you endurance and stamina, you do have to watch that you're not straining your body too much, or trying to force yourself to do things that you don't want to do. Too much willpower can sometimes make you push yourself past your limits. You may be overspending to compensate, because you feel that you deserve a little reward for all your hard work. However, you'll have to pay the piper sooner or later!
