I am very interested in finding out that my vote for Obama will be an honest one and one I have investigated - fairly. I plan to read all I can about this wonderful man before casting my vote for him.(this will not be difficult!)

who cares? He did not own slaves; wasn't even a "twinkle in someone's eye" at the time his long, long, long, long ago relatives owned slaves. What I'm more interested in is how he plans to get this country out of the mess the republicans, especially Bush, have gotten us into. Let's keep the discussion on relevant, important matters. When did the news media stop reporting news and start creating news?

Since we all came from Adam & Eve, why then would it be a surprise that Obama has relatives who owned slaves? I am sure just about every person in the United States could have some family tie to someone who owned slaves. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Obama's Kenyan father may also be the descendant of an African who sold his brothers into slavery, yes? Have we tracked this? And by the way, Abraham Lincoln's ancestry included slaves and slaveholders also--maybe that's why he was a good choice to end slavery, yes? Then again, I guess there will always be the question of who is "really" black in America and an unwritten law that those descended from Africans in this generation don't count, right? By the way, I too am in the "other" category even though by appearance you might call me "white" and my husband "black". So slavery and its effects haven't really left us on either side of the fence have they? When is enough enough?

Can a black candidate appropriately represent their white constituency? Can a white candidate appropriately represent their Jewish constituency? What is a jury of our peers--determined by race and religion?

As a white male raised in the south my reaction to this article is, who cares? If Obama were a white presidential candidate this study would more than likely never happen and it sure would not be published in a major american news source. This is a waist of time and an obvious use of race to stir the pot. Use your platform to do some good. Tell me something I can use.
