I have confidence there is no other way Richard H. Johnson would prefer to go. He was 85 years old.

I hope this turns out to be a medical condition.

The soaring community lost a very wonderful man today...I agree that this is the way he probably would like to have gone had he had a choice, he died doing what he loved to do...God speed Dick Johnson....

This is an extremely sad day in the aviation world. But to think that one could still fly at the age of 85 is so amazing. Dick was such an influence on me, Chris, Mitchell, Ron ... I just don't know where to stop on this list. How he will be missed for sure!! There is no better way for this man to have gone out because I don't believe he would have let it be anything else. That was one committed man to gliding. May God be with his wife and family.

Dick and his wife live in our neighborhood. We couldn't have a nicer and more caring couple as neighbors. They always looked after us as neighbors should. They were the best of friends, walking hand in hand every day by our kitchen window. Dick was an inspiration to me while I was training for my private pilot license, supporting me after I was a passenger in a crash. We will miss him terribly. He was truly one of the good people in life that we are blessed to have known.

Aunt Alice if you can see this I love you and I wish i was able to make it to Dallas to be there for and with you I'm so sorry for your loss. Richard Johnson is one of my favorite great uncles and I'll miss him dearly. All I can say is atleast he had his boots on.
