As a Croatian-American, I am appalled at how narrow-minded people can be. Thompson music has nothing to do with nazis!!! As a matter of fact, we couldn't care less about the Nazi - it was a mistake that happened over 60 years ago. It was terrible and awful but for heaven’s sake - give it up already. Yes, the songs are patriotic but you something for many, many years - Croatian couldn't even mention the we are Croatian – but nobody talks about that. The Serb launch a powerful smear campaign against Croatia and all things Croatians since the end of WWII. So I understand it is easy to but into the Serb propaganda but really people wake up and see the truth. And FYI – while the Serbs are black-listing us for being a nazi-state, guess what city was the first to get rid of all the Jews during WWII – it was Belgrade – that right the Serb capital – Funny how they forgot to talk about that little tidbit of information! Za Dom Spremi – For Homeland We Are Ready – to Protect – to Defend. I believe every country is willing to do just that for their homeland – why is so wrong that Thompson sings about it.

Personally, I am a very proud Croatian living in New York city and I am extremely outraged at your article. How can you group together an entire nationality and portray them as anti-Semetics? I personally am in shock at how low a group of people can be, so low to point fingers at the Croatian community for a popular singer's choice of lyircs. Speaking of choice of lyrics, there is not one song that he sings tha necessarily mentions ANYTHING about Jews or being Nazi. Just because his fans show up with their Ustasa attire does NOT mean the entire country is anti semetic or pro- Nazi.
This article was absolutely pathetic, and I believe the Croatian community deserves an appology for an exaggeration of opinion.
So what happened to freedom of speech? What is the purpose of the 1st amendment? Why do we bother having an ACLU? This country has gone haywire with accusing everyone they could for anything they can pick at. At this point, I cannot help but laugh at what their doing. This is the embarassment an amazing singer has to go through, merely because he sings about how proud he is of his countrys struggle for freedom. Croatians have a reason to be proud. We will never gain recognition in this pathetic place for the crucial war we fought, for all the lives lost, and for all the beautiful cities destroyed. The destruction of a country is completely ignored by the Jewish community, but once they find that a singer is singing of how proud he is of his people picking themselves back up and forming the most beautiful place on earth, the pounce on the very idea.
So just like the Jews suffered so many losses due to the Nazis, Croatians suffered many loses due to the Cetniks.

In conclusion, I advise that you get your facts straight before insulting an entire nationality and community of Croatians.

Koolman, if you're really "tired of the swastica symbol on my hrvatski narod", then you need to be the first one to condemn the Nazis, like this band Thompson and his fans, who exist among the Croatian people.

Thompson is a disgrace to the Croatian nation. If the Croatian people don't want to be seen as a bunch of Nazis then they need to be the ones leading the protest against this sort of crap. The Jews and the Serbs shouldn't have to step in and do that for you. You should be policing your own.

It's a shame that Croatian-owned venues in North America would agree to host this sort of a band.

Just saw the video on youtube. Interesting compilation, because the song is not sung by Thompson, but of a singer who died in a car accident years ago. Pictures from Thompson's concert and the song in the background not sung by him. All those accusations are ridiculous. The only contribution of such a media coverage is that a couple of wannabe Nazis have a great platform at Thompson's concerts, because they can be sure of the media coverage.

Thompson's one song and accompanying video (note singular tense, NOT plural) that includes the "Za dom spremni" slogan was made when Thompson's hometown was liberated from Serbian oppressors during the war in the early 1990's. The author takes a cheap shot by pulling it out of context and associating it solely with the Ustasha. One question for you Verena - are you Serbian? If you are, nothing I say will make a dent anyway. But, if you're not, maybe you should take a look at what happened to Croatia in the early nineties before passing judgment on a single music video. You can start by googling "ovcara"

Studies show that there had been various stages in which the Croats had been pressured for accepting the language of the Slavs and annexation to former Yugoslavia.
