H1N1 flu vaccine arrives

"The vaccine is safe" LOLOLOL. It's NEW. For all anyone knows it'll do more harm than good.

My child will not be receiving the vaccine. This is a decision I based upon my own child's health. He is a healthy teenager and does not have any high risk conditions. I do not believe that the risks of giving him a virtually untested vaccine outweigh the risks of him having complications from the H1N1 virus. The immunity received from actually having the virus will last him a lifetime. A version of the H1N1 virus circulated in the 1950's. This is what many are attributing to the fact that seniors do not seem to be having the life threatening complications associated with H1N1 virus. Many Seniors have shown to have some immunity to the new H1N1. I believe that this virus will mutate into a more serious virus and individuals that have actually had the H1N1 will have some immunity.

That said my daughter, who does have high risk factors, will be receiving the vaccine. Again we weighed the risks. Her risk of complications from getting H1N1 was more then we thought the risks of getting the vaccine.

I believe that the choice of getting the vaccine should be an individual decision based upon their own beliefs.

40 million people were vaccinated for H1N1 in 1976 after an Army recruit died and several other recruits became ill at Fort Dix, NJ. This may be another reason this flu is said to harder on the young.

I'm not afraid of no stinking Swine Flu! I'll put d Swine Flu in a big balloon that looks like a flying saucer and deport it.

Wait a second...70,000 Humboldt county residents are determined to be at high risk for contracting or suffering complications for the virus (last paragraph of the story). Aren't there only about 110,000 people in the whole county? Is the proportion of unhealthy people in the county really that high?
Note: I'm not against the vaccine and if it's available to me before I've actually gotten the flu, I'll likely get it. I've had them in the past and found the results effective. It's just those numbers don't seem to add up.

Drink more Kool-Aid folks and line up for the government vaccine.  Kind of like the "global warming" sheeple. Oh, I forgot. It's not global warming anymore. It's "climate change." haha

Since you want to "opt out", I say that's great. Let's enter your kids name in a data base and if your kid gets sick YOU and/or YOUR insurance pay the total cost, with NO government help. And if your kid gets sick and infects other people, you pay their medical costs. You accepting responsibility for your actions sure sounds like a great idea to me, yep!

How is he going to infect others if the others have received their vaccine, assuming that everyone that wants vaccinated is vaccinated??? That would only leave us that chose not be vaccinated. If everyone that wants to be vaccinated is not, due to the limited supply, then I feel that my son not getting his shot is actually saving it for someone with a higher risk that might not otherwise get it.

If my child does get sick I will pay for it without government help. I have never been on a government program, no free or reduced lunches, no medical, no welfare etc...I am not saying that these programs are wrong, I have just always chose not to participate in the programs, even when I did qualify. If I got injured or sick and didn't have insurance, I paid for the bills. Maybe only $10 at a time but I paid for them.

If you're going to post this information, which is fine by the way as long as it's factual, you should also point out the relative importance of it. For instance, while you list potassium chloride as a 'neurotoxin', it not only is at such a low concentration in the vaccine as to be unnoticeable, but it quickly dissociates into potassium ions and chloride ions, both of which are essential mineral elements for human metabolism. It's only at very high doses that these become issues.

As for the adverse reactions, you should also point out that the numbers are very low for these, particularly the severe reactions (something like 2 per 100,00?)

I'm guessing that you don't like big pharmaceutical companies and you probably think the whole vaccine thing is a scam. Personally, I've never had trouble with appropriate vaccines, including the flu shots, and the H1N1 isn't anything really new except for the strain. It's not like it's brand new untested technology.

I'm just worried about the microchips their implanting with the injections for tracking our locations.

Oh, as an afterthought....if you choose to NOT get vaccinated then the only socially moral position to take is to then voluntarily quarantine yourself should you become ill. This means removing yourself from all contact with others (especially the unvaccinated) for a minimum period of 1 week or until 1 day has passed after symptoms disappear. This means no work, no school, no outings, no grocery stores, no nothing until you get better. Are you willing to do that?

I fully support your right to not get vaccinated but I do not support irresponsibility when it comes to knowingly spreading a virus that could be fatal so some individuals.

2 Cents - I totally agree with quarantining yourself in the event a person becomes ill. Not just with H1N1. Anyone that is ill should not be going to work, school etc to spread the illness. It is common courtesy.

According to the NIH, people with H1N1 are already infectious 24 hours BEFORE they develop symptoms. So you can pass it on before you even know you have it.

Quarantining yourself is OK but don't fool yourself and think by just doing that you can't hurt anyone else.
