Life Choices? The choices we make only improve our chances with no guarantees. We can make the best choices and something happens and we are the creek. You rent a nice home..wow ok...but don't put other people down without knowing or walking in their shoes. Everyone is different. I know people who got sick when the AC went out at school (work) as temps rose quickly in the classrooms last week. When I rented before I bought my house I made sure the ac worked. I paid only a little over $300 for rent the and the landlords were great. I was always comfortable. There are many different sides to this story. We cannot make it black and white all the time." THIS ALL GOES BACK TO CHOICES. LIFE CHOICES HAVE LED YOU TO LIVING IN A $315.00 APARTMENT. I RENT A NICE HOME......!!

Hot conditions are nothing new here in El Paso. Having grown up here I have noticed a change in the humidity levels rendering our "swamp coolers" ineffective for longer periods of time in the summer.
If indeed the coolers have been checked and found to be working properly then it comes down to adapting your lifestyle in order to be more comfortable.
My swamp cooler is working properly and yet it is over 80degrees in my home well after dark. Therefore, we do not cook during the heat of the day. Cool showers and light clothing are a must. No socks or heavy denim. We have been known to window shop in a cool mall to escape the heat. Sodas, tea, or beer will not keep you hydrated. If you are fortunate enough to have friends and family with cooler homes, plan meals or visits together. As for the windows not having screens: if I had to choose between more comfortable temperatures and a few flies finding their way in, I would choose swatting flies.
All of this of course IF the coolers are truly working properly. Hoping for cooler temps for all of us...
Lots of things to do also...I got my hints from the hotels I have stayed to lower costs and keep cool (warm in winter). I lowered my costs by putting in individual units in the rooms (my bedroom has an ac/heater). That way I only cool the rooms I want, not the whole house. I noticed a drop in electric bill not say in water. Plus I added the thermal drapes they use. It keeps cool or heat in better and lowers cost of electricity..
A man and his wife were spending the day at the zoo.
She was wearing a loose fitting, pink dress, sleeveless with straps..
He was wearing his usual jeans and T-shirt.
As they walked through the ape exhibit,
They passed in front of a large, silverback gorilla.
Noticing the wife, the gorilla went crazy.
He jumped on the bars, and holding on with one hand and two feet he grunted and pounded his chest with his free hand.
He was obviously excited at the pretty lady in the pink dress.
The husband, noticing the excitement, thought this was funny.
He suggested that his wife tease the poor fellow some more by puckering her lips and wiggling her bottom. She played along and the gorilla got even more excited, making noises that would wake the dead. Then the husband suggested that she let one of her straps fall to show a little more skin.
She did... and the gorilla was about to tear the bars down.
"Now..... show your thighs and sort of fan your dress at him," he said. This drove the gorilla absolutely crazy and he started doing flips.
Then the husband grabbed his wife, ripped open the door to the cage, flung her in with the gorilla and slammed the cage door shut.
"Now. Tell him you have a headache."
What is a "solar powered freon system"???
I've never heard about that type of cooling system!
What planet are you from?
Yes landlord, give them fans and then raise the rent,
don't feel sorry for them. I'm sure they all have cell phones so they can afford 20 to 30 bucks more per month in rent!.
People waste more money than they realize.
Stop using hair dryers, turn the TV off; there are many ways of saving money and using the savings of a lower electric bill to buy a small window unit and on humid days shut the main unit off and sit in one room if necessary. Grow up and take responsibility for your own well being! I think it may be time to take a look at why you all are such losers!
I wonder if El Paso has a Health Department? I watched a news segment about a similar problem in Dallas - the Dallas Health Department actually visited the individual apartments and recorded actual temperature and humidity readings. It turns out that the tenants were correct and the air conditioners were not working - they were running, but they were not working. I know that the units were refrigearated in Dallas - no such luck for the poor people of El Paso - but a working unit will cool the apartment down to the 70 degree range. I wonder what the temperature is at the Apartment Owners house, the Mayors house, and the "Director" of the Health Department's house. Maybe we can take some average readings from their homes to determine how much heat and humidity these apartment tenants should have to put up with. I hope they get a lawyer, because I know the city of El Paso is not going to do anything on their behalf.
