I have a weird condition: when I sleep on my right side all is fine. However, when I sleep on my left side I get a very bad headache as I sleep.
As soon as I turn onto my left side I immediately feel a pulsing in my head like blood flow is constricted. This happens immediately and every time. The effect is noticeable immediately.
I'm worried I might have a blood flow problem in my head and might someday have a stroke?
Background: I had a head injury in college (20 years ago) when I flew off the front of my bicycle and hit my chin (and lost teeth).

Hello, I have a couple of ideas for you since I have a similar problem, but when I sleep on my right side I wake up feeling really bad - but I don't have my answers just yet either, just some ideas - headache, eyes hurt, tongue coated. When I sleep on my left side my waking feeling is much more 'normal'.#1 Do you have allergens which can reach you better when you sleep the other way? Specifically dust or mold - check it out - hire a professional cleaner to eradicate allergens from air ducts, and make sure there is no mold anywhere in the house.#2 ask a doc if your heart can cause this. maybe your body circulates blood much better from one side or the other. Blood exiting the heart 'down and with gravity' travels much easier than 'blood travelling up, away from gravity'. Either way, try to take an anti-inflammatory before going to bed and see if that helps, it helps me sometimes. I prefer NSAIDs, like Aleve. Good Luck everyone, I really hope this helps - I know how it is.

I have a similar problem. However with me if I sleep on one side (either side) I will immediately start to get the headache on the opposite side. So, if I sleep on my left side, the headache will turn on on th right side of the head, and vice versa.
Conversely, often if I have a migraine and I lie down on that side it is on, then sometimes I get some relief, but again this can result in the headache turning on on the opposite side.
Any ideas?
I have read somewhere this may be related to low spinal fluid.
