I don't know if any of you realize this but it's not all about Government taking over. If smoking is banned, it sends a message to everyone including our children that smoking isn't cool anymore. This in the long run will SAVE BIG MONEY IN HEALTH CARE COSTS!!!
Way to go people that voted for the Smoking Ban!!
If people new what all military does! The government makes cigs (gpc's) Government Packed Cigaretts! You have a better chance of getting lung cancer liveing next to a refinary, or Plant that puts off fumes. I know because I used to live 5 minutes from one. Now I live and breath better, but then you have the farmers and their chemicals. Before you go believing what the government and FDA claime to say, you need to look what is around you that you breathe in.

I think it's great!!!! Smokers cry what about our rights?? well what about non-smokers rights to be able to take their family to a resturant and eat without having cancer causing smoke in the air??? Who ever designed the smoking and non-smoking areas apparently failed physics. The invisible wall does not stop the smoke from creeping over to the non-smoking section.. DUH!!!!

If you want to smoke and die from cancer.. Hey go for it!!! Just don't drag me and my family into your miserable death..

Oh and I lived in California for 30 years where this law has passed and businesses didn't go out of business. Smokers will still go out and eat and still go out and drink. The only right that has been taken from you is you can't make us eat and smoke your cigarette. Or make the poor servers breath in your nasty crud while working.

California ALSO now has one town that is entirely smoke free. So when you drive about in your 4 litre truck you won't be subjected to the second hand smoke of pedestrians either. How lucky for you.

TO LATE TO BOYCOTT THEM NOW, WE SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT WHEN THEY MADE THE BUSINESSES NON-SMOKING.
LIKE BOB EVANS ETC.
I HAVE BOYCOTTED THESE BUSINESSES MYSELF, BECAUSE THEY DID NOT ALLOW SMOKING.
IF ALL THE SMOKERS WOULD HAVE DONE THAT, THEN I DON'T THINK THIS WOULD HAVE PASSED. BUT NO, WE JUST SUCK IT UP AND SHUT UP AND DIDN'T PROTEST THESE STUPID PEOPLE, NOW LOOK AT US.
THEY WON.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME PROTESTS GOING ON ABOUT IT.
No, the problem is that when businesses chose to go smoke free on their own, we respected their right to make that choice. We also respected the right for non-smokers to have venues they could enjoy that were smoke-free. Unfortunately, the fanatics took our "respecting others' rights" as some kind of sign that we didn't care at all. They got greedy then, and decided to force it on all, especially when they found fewer smokers patronizing those places that went smoke-free.

So it begs the question of where all those non-smokers were who wanted the businesses to go smoke-free. Why were they not now patronizig the businesses that chose to cater specifically to them?

You mean like you do when you drive your car forcing your cancer causing poison on everyone (including you and your precious family)? Better find another argument because unless you live without a car, without public transport, without electricity, without pesticide use, without any household chemicals, you are also part of the equation in your argument.

People living in glass houses should never throw stones.

Intersting, because I've heard that California barely has a 50% compliance rate too. NO one is forced to work anywhere, therefore that argument fails too.

But let me ask you. Do you really need every restaurant and bar to be smoke free? Do you patronize ALL of them weekly? I didn't think so. Therefore, why do you need ALL places to be smoke free when the chance of you going there is slim to none?

And what exactly is it you think cars are spewing out into the air that no one can avoid? Pure Oxygen? And before you feed me that "but we don't run cars indoors" line; consider this......where do you think the air inside comes from?
Every gallon of gas you burn when driving puts more poison into the air (and notice how most tailpipes face the sidewalk and pedestrians-talk about blowing smoke in someones face) than hundreds of cigarettes (and that's just one car and one gallon of fuel) and you think cigarette smoke is doing all the damage?
Someone needs to do some serious reading and research I think.
When did I say Cig Smoke was all that is bad in the world. Someone needs to grow a brain.
Its called making a choice. I find more harm in riding a horse to take my kids to school in the middle of winter than taking my car. Getting rid of cars is just not an option.
Grow up please and stop making these stupid comments.
Bottom line. You not being able to blow smoke in my face is good for me period! So people in Ohio voted to make sure you cant do that anymore. Is that so hard for you people to understand.
I know your smookers and cant be real bright to begin with but come on.

California has had a ban for years and in the beginning people sounded just like you guys. Now it is no big deal. Nobody smokes indoors. They step outside to smoke and step back in to gamble.(yes there is casinos in Calofornia)

You will get used to it

They are public places..I believe any public place should be smoke free. Go outside and smoke.. I don't want to have to worry about which resturant to eat at..

I remember when you could smoke on planes, smoke in movie theaters and smoke in grocery stores. Well you can't now.. Do I think there should be smoking and non smoking grocery stores?? NOPE Because that is food I will be consuming, I don't need your nasty crud near the food. Sorry Your not going to get me to feel sorry for ya.

This will not help as always if you tell someone not to do something they try even harder to do it. And like the comedian Bill Engvall said "you will never stop smokers they could be in a two story building ad would be hanging by their ankles from th eroof smoking."
So what is the point. I mean compare it to drinking and driving- it is illegal but yet it continues to increase across the state.
It works in California

The smoking ban is "One small step for man, one hugh step toward big government". I don't smoke, never have, but as most, I know folks that do. This issue wasn't really about smoking in public places, it was about the state government controlling one more thing. I worry about a governing body that supports issues like this that give them new ways to be involved in everyone's life. We as Ohioian have stuggled with job loss, and we jump right in to it again with passing this issue. Great job to those that supported issue 5. Don't even get me started on the passing of Issue 2.
I don't live in Ohio but didn't voters vote for this? The government may have proposed it but sombody voted for it. Apparently, more people in Ohio approve the smokeless environment then disapprove it.
