Tobacco is indigenous to this country so why not grow your own and save yourself a whole lot of money.

Jim, that is easier said than done...A lot of people don't live on or have farmland and their back yards are big enough...The government is not going to get the revenue they thought from this taxation on cigarettes, a lot of people are going to either quit, buy them out of a trunk of a car or go to the nearest Indian reservation...Either way it's going to backfire on them, and of course many of those 43 million smokers vote, so whomever voted for these taxes are going to come up quite a few million votes short when its election time...

Unlike pot tobacco does not require a lot of land to grow. A few plants and that is all it takes to grow enough for one person for an entire year.

However like you say most smokers will be forced to buy their smoke from the Indians or on the black market.

Enough of big government taxing smokers to death. Boston Tea party on the politically correct and morally bankrupt politicians and wall street types. It's time to take back America. Shame on wall Street and the corrupt politicians selling us out to China, taxing us to death. Wake-up America, we are losing our freedoms to choose our habits, our health care, and our life liberty and pursuit of happiness. Shame on all the UnAmericans, the politically correct and morally bankrupt. We are losing our freedom here and fighting for freedom overseas. Let's fight for our freedoms here and just say no to unfair taxation, socialism, and the like. Vote the communists out next time. Give me liberty or give me death. Taxation without representation!

I'm glad the tax on cigarettes are going up because smoking not only affects the smoker but also other people and items like (closes, cars, houses, carpets, and even pets by having the smoke stick to their fur coats and smelling the smoke like second hand smoking, and have their lives go shorter then a human's life.) I never started smoking ever because I always think of three wasted things to go away. (time, money and life will be wasted from smoking). I hope it keeps going up and soon or later people will have no choice but to stop.

You either have a great Big Big pot, or are growing something other that tobacco. Lots of luck with your "tobacco" LOL

I am a smoker, I think this tax increase is rediculous. Why don't they go after the drinkers? The smokers are always getting all the attention. The government needs to focus more attention on the drinkers. When was the last time they considerably raised the tax on alcohol like they did on cigerettes? It's cheaper to buy a 30 case of beer then a carton of cigerettes. Smokers are always discriminated, well some people should discriminate more against drinkers. Alcohol does as much damage if not more damage to your body as cigerettes. When was the last time you heard of a cigerette smoker killing an innocent person driving down the road. Compared to a drinker getting behind the wheel drunk and killing innocent people because they lack the common sense to realize what they are doing. To many people get killed or injured because of a drunk driver. The politicians increase the penalty of drunk driving but not the cost, if they would do both maybe not so many people would drink. They need to substantially increase the price of alcohol so there would be less fatalities of stupid accidents because someone got so drunk because they were depressed, mad at a spouse, girlfriend, family member or wanting to commit suicide. Alcohol is a depressant and makes you say and do stupid things with irreversable reprecutions.
you voted to keep the change in your pocket....

When I was a kid like most of us here in Tennessee when it came time to plant and to harvest the tobacco we all pitched in.

A person is able to plant 5 or 6 tobacco plants on as little as a 5 foot square area.

The tobacco plants are indigenous to the United States as it was after all a weed before the white man decided to cultivate it like they did with corn.
