Personally, I think the cut-off date was more reasonable than having the exemption in the first place, but politics will result in that sort of thing until we find ourselves with a bold enough set of legislators to simply shut down the tobacco industry.
Even then there will be massive problems for a brief period, while all the addicts get through their withdrawals.

All of this depends on ones perspective. When I smoked I didn't want Any smoking bans and I was very vocal about it. Now that I dont smoke I see the other side. Truth be told I can be in a smoke free place or a place where somkers are, it doesn't bother me. I know that second hand smoke is bad but I'm not around it aor all that long, maybe a couple or 3 hours at a time. So what.
