A lot of people's discripitions are very similar to my experiences. Mine go a little farther and i can offer a few more details that I would like to see if you all have also noticed........ I would discribe this electric feeling more like intense pressure on my entire body and most specificly my teeth and jaw. When it first started, I can recall my self leaving my body and struggling to get away from it.( I don't recall ever seeing my body) I remember crawling away from my bodys position on the couch using every ounce of strength and then getting sucked back and I would force myself awake. Then I achieved much more ease in movement being able to fly around the room feeling like i'm on a roller coaster. i fell asleep in a field next to my appartment once and felt myself flying back home being able to see blurry visions of very specific landmarks all the way. It all seems much more real then a dream but as scary as it was at first, I kinda just go with it now. It probably happens an average of once or twice a week but I can go a month without it happening. I've found certen drugs seem to draw this experience out but I don't think that makes it any less of a real and valid phenomon. I always arive back at my body and can snap myself awake so I don't think there's anything harmful in it. Going back to the pressure/ electric feeling, I never feel the aftermath when I wake up. i feel like i'm gonna break my teeth i'm clamping my jaw so hard in this "state" of mind but once i'm awake, everything feels fine. Please post any comments if i've said anything new that u have also experienced!

This is a pretty long but detailed post, you have been warned.
In my ten years or so of sleep paralysis I've come up with a few techniques to beat this thing to the point it doesn't bother me anymore, sometime I even look forward to it - hope this'll help a few of you because this thing really scared me when I was younger.
--
First I'll tell you my symptoms; like most of you, I experience sleep paralysis, often accompanied with the sensation of an immense amount of pressure and buzzing in my head and body. Just two days ago I remember the pressure being so great I could feel my jaw and muscles locked, me riding this pressure like a big storm - but this time the storm is inside my body.

Here's how I deal with it.(Please note these are just my personal experiences and I'm not trying to play doctor, I'm just hoping this advice can help a few people finding it hard, especially the younger ones.)
--
First with the head pressure/buzzing:
--
What I've found out is no matter how bad it gets, even though it feels like it’s about to implode your head - it never gets painful. Armed with this knowledge I try to stay calm when it happens - I just give it my body to play with and when it’s had its fun it just gives me my body back, intact with no problems (just calmly ride it). It’s not easy to stay calm at times but I've found it gets easier with time. These days its scares me as much as pins and needles.
--
--
Now for the sleep paralysis & pressure/buzzing:
--
I've also learned that what goes on in your head and body before you sleep really affects it. For example, not having a regular sleeping pattern is just blatantly asking for it, dozing off when you're body's not tired i.e. lazy afternoon naps triggers it. My advice is to always make sure you tire yourself enough during the day in order to have a sound night’s sleep. Avoid naps, if you get your usual 8 hours a day that should be no problem. Also unlike what a lot of people have said, I find that after consuming alcohol I can have a relatively peaceful sleep.

... CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS POST
Now for the fun part:
--
Sleep paralysis really use to scare me, I recall times when I saw my mother slowly sneak into my room with a knife and tried to stab me, I recall seeing a giant spider slowly crawl toward my face... etc, countless crazy shit.
--
I read a bit about this and found that these are actually fears caused by the feeling of helplessness that comes with being conscious and paralysed. I also found out that you are not actually as conscious as you think you are, thus the hallucinations.
--
Combining these two bits of information and adding a little calmness into the mix - your left with an empty head that's ready to be programmed to dream whatever dream you desire. Literally anything you want, I've gone from hero dreams where I've got superpowers to explicit romantic dreams with so much control, I even get to pick my partner.
--
To do this, first you must understand that when you wake up in a paralysed state, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it; it’s a physical state, not a mental one. When you go to sleep, your brain sends certain chemicals to paralyse your muscles in order to keep you from harming yourself by acting out your dreams. With sleep paralysis, your brain wakes up several minutes before these chemicals are expelled from your muscles - leaving you semi conscious and unable to move.
--
(I also have a nagging feeling that the pressure/buzzing is directly connected to these chemicals.)
--
You also have to understand that you're not really vulnerable, you're body is acting just as it would act when asleep, e.g., if you wake up in a paralysed state and someone jumped into your room, you'll instantly wake the same way your body would wake to the noise if you were asleep. I guess what I'm trying to say is it’s impossible to wake yourself mentally but very easy to wake from external stimuli.
--
Lastly, and I can’t stress this one out enough, NEVER OPEN YOUR EYES. Even if you're sure there's a lion on top of you about to maul your face, never open your eyes. Doing so will only make matters worse, trust your body to identify external threats and alert you when they happen, not your eyes.
--
The reason you need to know these things is because you need to stay calm when you find yourself in a paralysed state.
--
Now this is how you control your dreams. After waking up in a paralysed state, simply close your eyes again and whatever your thinking of you'll dream about. Simple. Think of yourself sitting on the driver’s seat of an F1 car and in about 30 seconds, you will. Just think the way you’d usually day dream. Sometimes you can actually see the dream form in front of your eyes, sort of the way memories form in harry porter when he dips his head into that "memory watery" bowl.
--
Also, it’s a lot easier to go back to sleep and wake properly rather than try force your way up because as you already know, you end up feeling normal the instant you wake - and if it isn't morning you just try go straight back to sleep. Just cut out the middle man and go back to sleep during a paralysis, its natural.
--
I’m still pretty young (25) and I’m really interested in this topic. If you have more mature experiences and advise you’d want to share or need a little more advise contact me on lahanfist@yahoo.co.uk
Thnx for reading
Frankie.

Sleep paralysis (SP) and Sleep Shock (SS) are two entirely different subjects and physical sensations. SP is a naturally occuring event that happens as you are going into the ability to lucidly dream state, or astrally project. Your body becomes paralysed at this point. I hear a roaring static sound when this is happening, which when it 1st happened it was scary, with alot of pressure, and intense. I have since learned to relax into it because I now know that this is my prelude to astral projection. When you relax, it eases and lasts only a couple moments, where if you hold onto your consciousness, instead of losing it to sleep.. you can then roll out of your body , astrally and , I normally just fly out the window or the wall., cause I love to fly ;). With Sleep Shock, the electical source is not internal. It is often accompanied by having a sense of a presence (invisible) com into your room. There is an electrical snap and flash, and it feels like you are hit with a taser in the head, or where ever they hit you. It STUNS you. Nothing at all like the static continuous roaring of the prelude to projection. If your eyes are open, you can sometime catch where the source of this small lightning like bolt comes from. For me, it comes in thrrough the window, or from the electrical wiring, or products that use electricity. Clock radio alarm clocks and Tv's are usually the most problem because they have a RECEIVER in them, which tends to make the tase effect stronger. I have seen the blot come in the window, hit an electrical appliance and richochet into my head.
My cure was to remove every single electric EVERYTHING that has to do w/ electric energy from the sleeping area. So, again, SP and SS, are entirely different subjects. Hope this helps.

hi bernadine, i hope all is well with you and if you are going to be helping friends with such matters that is great but i do hope you are safe yourself, as long as you have jesus and the power and belive of our heavenly father that he is with you and who can be against you, but remember when christ jesus sent them out he sent them out in pairs, so next time take a christian friend with you because the lord our god has said where two or more gather in his name so he dwells with them, god bless and keep safe. hi kim your strong sence to pray is a very good one because although you may feel you can stop it now that might be so but unless you take controll or rather give the lord your god the controll you may find yourself in a place you do not want to be, trust me i really do want to help so i will keep both of you in my prayers, and if you do not know the lord christ jesus well start now and ask him into your heart to be your lord and the one who saves you, bernadine i know you have a bible but if you dont kim get one and read gods word. much love in Christ Jesus.

Hi roseann it good to hear from you. It is also good to talk to someone who is on the same page as I am and know what I am talking about.

I like to introduce myself by telling you that as I look back I think I always had some electric in me. I recall that I could hear a little cracking in my head in my teens. As I grew a litter older and accepted the Lord in my life we were having noon day prayer at a church and I had my hands held up and I felt something which felt like a bolt of lightening hit my hands. Sometime later I was sick and in the hospital and had a vision where I was talking to the Lord and he was telling me He wanted me to preach, and as I was talking I felt electricy as it came down and started in my toes and went halfway up my body and I was so afraid that it stopped, but these experience felt good.

About a year ago I started getting electric shock on the side of my head. The first one was so powerful that I didn't know what to think. I went to the Dr. and the doctor give me medicine for headake. And she also sent me to the eye doctor. But I still get the electric shock. I had one in April of this year. This was a rough one. I was lying on my side and I started getting one. I fought myself out of it and turned on my back and as I was about to go to sleep I started feeling the electric shock and I saw and heard black wind blowing really hard threw my closed window and heard my blind shacking and something fell on my bed and I heard them talking in their own language which I didn't understand and I think I doze off and I was out of it for I don't know how long but when I came through they were attacking my body. I started hitting because it was very frightening and as I hitting I didn't feel a human body, but I felt the forces of them and they felt like strong winds. I was able to turn over and felt the forces still behind me and I began to say the blood of Jesus over and over and they just vanish. The last one I had made me feel as I was coming out of my body. My favorite verse which help me is Psm. 27 and Psm. 91. Before I go to sleep at night I ask God to forgive all my sins, I ask him to cover my house in Jesus blood, the surrounding of my house, and I also ask him to send liasion of angel to watch over me and protect me as I sleep. Looking forward to hear from you and anyone else out there.

This is all too much! I thought it was an absolute nightmare when it happened to me. It's too hard to explain the symptoms to people it hasn't happened to. Sometimes, I'm in a dream within a dream. I wakeup the first time feeling awkward yet still aware that "i'm still asleep". I'll yell for my girlfriend to wake me up...it feels so real. The electricity, numbness, and my own voice pleading for help. I really hate it. I like some of the other people posting here will wake up the second time by force too. I won't sleep anymore that night. My girlfriend said she just heard me moaning quietly and that it didn't occur to her that I may be in pain. It really is one scary feeling and you do feel as if you're being watched. I'm agnostic, don't go to church or anything but I'm a good person, just like you guys...I do real well for myself(financially), have a great girlfriend..the whole lot! I don't get this! I haven't grown accustomed to the sensation, and it gets stronger every time. It's almost a relief reading these posts though. At least i'm not the only one! Good luck.
