shingles twice this year

i started with shingles about 3 years ago which i had 3 times that year then the next year i had it twice & this year 2007 i am on my 2nd time again, i was told it is unlikely to get it a lot of times, but i wou;ld like to know if this is common & is there anything i can take to help me cut down the times of it keep coming back as it does, the pain can get so bad as you know if you have shingles, & the doctor give me some cream to put on which really doesn't seem to help that much.

I know exactly how you feel. I am 28 yrs. old and my shingles started exactly 3 years ago and I have had them 16 times since April of 2004. They are limited to my right leg and have come up on various spots (knee, ankle, calf). First off, how old are you? If you are under 65, it is very rare for a reoccurance like you explained. Also, do you have any immune deficiencies? Like Lupus? You need to ask your Doctor to put you on Valtrex, not any other anti-virals. It must be Valtrex if you have reoccuring shingles. Also ask about suppresive therapy, unless you are able to predict an outbreak by the usual symptoms (burning, tingling, numbness). Hope this helps!

Thank you so much coco for your help, i have had some blood test done & my white blood cells are very low again.
I am 46 years old & i get it on the cheek of my bum, so sitting & laying down gets very painful. The doctor doesn't want me to go on the Valtrex because of the side effects. i will ask about the therapy & i can some times tell when they coming back out as i get a itching or tingling symptom.

I am 58 and have had shingles many times...never a full blown case as I took Valtrex as soon as I realized it was shingles. I now take L-Lysine (vitamin supplement) 1000 mg. a day, and have not had an outbreak in over a year. Read about this in a health journal. The L-Lysine blocks the virus. I have found my miracle!

I had my first small lesion of shingles 5 years ago. I had no idea what it was. I thought it was a spider bite. The following year it came back but on another area and it was very PAINFUL and itchy. It was all down my left arm, on the roof of my mouth and on my butt cheek. It now is a regular occurrence. I do not take anything for it. I am healthy, no immune problems, no illnesses. the most common reason for reoccuring shingles is actually caused by the herpes simplex virus and not herpes zoster which is the true shingles virus.

I have had shingles once. Never again I hope.
A traditional cure in Ireland is to put the blood of a well person all over the shingles lesions e.g. husband, wife etc. They simply prick their finger with a pin and when it bleeds they smear the blood all over the lesions. Let it dry out and repeat if necessary. The white blood cells in their blood (which are working properly) stimulates your immune system to work properly. It is dramatically successful. And cheap.

I got the shingles about a week ago, and all of you who have gone (and like me, are going) through this nightmare my prayers are with you.

I was given oxycodone and some herpes related drug and I can tell you that never in my life have I agonized as much as I am now.

Hopefully this will be my first and last time meeting this wretched virus!

hi everyone...im a bit worried im 19 and since 2007 when i was 17 ive had shingles once a year since..... i usually get them on my back and ive had it on my face once....

i have just come back from a 2 week holiday and got them again ...its the 3rd time now:( im worried becuase its rare as im only 19.. the doctor said he is going to look into this because ive had it may times ..... im just worried becuase i must have a low immune system and i dont want to keep getting the shingles every year:(

Anyone having shingles that many times should have tests done to determine if he/she has an immune deficiency of some kind.
