How can you say that? If a person is on Enbrel, his Rheumatoid Arthritis IS controlled! Thus, that person should NOT get Lymphoma! Right?
No, not necessarily, just because you are on Enbrel and other meds doesn't mean the disease is controlled. You can still suffer symptoms eg inflammation. I have been on Enbrel for 2 and half years, I am one of the lucky ones. Have been symptom free for this period. I was taking Methotrexate and prednisalone before I was admitted into hospital for IV Steroids 2 and half years ago, during this admission I was commenced on Enbrel. I was practically bedbound previous to taking Enbrel now I live a full and active life, I am a registered nurse and cope fine with the work and hours, experiencing 'flare ups' max twice a year. When I say flare ups they are very mild maybe just affecting one-two joints in my hands/wrists. I think the pros definitely out weigh the cons in my case. I am greatful to be able to live my life normally for now, however long this may last, I thank god for Enbrel.

I have a friend who has Ra and can't get any help because she has no insurance is there a place where people can get help? Her hands are nearly usless.
You might want to suggest dietary changes to your friend. My RA improved greatly when I cut out all dairy and gluten, and started adding in more Omega-3 fatty acids and green foods. There is a lot of information about it online. Also, I use a ChiliPad: http://www.chilitechnology.com/ which is a great help because it lets me control the temperature of my bed and eases a lot of the pain.

For your information, my mother aged 67, was put on enbrel for rheumatoid arthritis after two new knees and 5 years of suffering approx. She had 41 weeks treatment (two injections a week), when on a random blood test it was detected that her liver count was extremely high. It turned out she had developed common bile duct cancer and died 7-8 months following the blood test.
Although Enbrel gave her quality of life for just under a year we can't help think that maybe it also contributed to her developing cancer.
This might be something interesting for you to find out more

There may be a link between the body's natural healing process and cancer. This link may be enhanced with the induction of Enbrel.

Hi there, sorry to hear you are confused as to what your next step is with medication. I have noticed there is conflicting advice on this forum, which doesn't make it easy. I have been on Enbrel 5 years now and I am completely healthy, so far. I was completely bed ridden with RA previous to Enbrel. I am a nurse and lived a very active life before I was diagnosed at 27. RA tore me apart. Extreme pain. I was put on steroids and metotrexate, like you. That combination didn't work at all for me either. I put on so much weight too and got quite depressed. I was put on Enbrel as almost a last resort. Within 3 weeks I was walking and practically back to normal. Within 2 months I was back at work. I live a very active life now. I go jogging 3 times a week and go to the gym once a week. I work full time as a nurse... It depends on your quality of life at the moment really as to whether you think taking Enbrel is best for you. I have read all the info of the possible side effects etc. It even has links to possible causes of Lymphomas and other cancers, it doesn't stop me from taking Enbrel. I have a quality of life now that I wouldn't have if i stopped taking this medication. No one knows how long we have to live on this earth but all I know is, the majority of the time i do have, i want to live well. People who live very well and look after themselves can still develope cancer, it's unfortunately a reality of life. I think every person is an individual and you have to make an intelligent decision for your own self. If Enbrel does cause me irrepareable damage I won't blame the medication, I will still thank God I at least now appreciate life and the quality of life Enbrel has given me the past 5 years. I am well monitored too by the way, every couple of months I have blood tests and so far, all have been fine. Lets hope this continues. I hope this helps you in some way with your decision, good luck.:-)

How about its side effects? Is there any discussion about it? Research should be done before taking in any kinds of medicine.
