I've lived with RA for over 12 years now and the first 2 1/2 hears was pure hell. During this time I was following doctors recommendations and getting worse by the day, in fact the occupational therapist said that I was progressing in this disease in a month what she would expect to see in 5 years.

I was taking a cocktail of medications and all I got for it were side effects.

My health turned around when I started taking supplements. After 6 months I was able to stop the meds and over the next year the pain and inflamation slowly disappeared.

I have since made other healthy changes and today you wouldn't know that I live with RA.

Sadly, although doctors know of patients like myself, and many others, they do not share with others what they've seen to bring success.

I share with others many of the things I've tried over the years in an effort to help stop the suffering of this disease. If you are interested in reading more about how to Live With RA in invite you to http://www.LivingWithRheumatoidArthritis.com or my story at http://www.livingwithrheumatoidarthritis.com/...

From the day I was diagnosed with RA I argued that until we knew what caused me to get this disease we couldn't treat it and I still believe this.

I've learned that the key to a healthy immune system comes from a healthy digestive system and we can't have a healthy digestive system taking toxic medications.

When will doctors share success stories! For myself I was willing to try anything that gave me a hope of recovery. Medications don't give us hope of recovery, only a artificial sense, if they work and reduce the pain. That's a big if ... because for many the medications do nothing but harm.

I'm 20 years old and I've been on methotrexate since I was 16 when I got diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was first put on the pills that didn't work, made me very sick and made me lose weight. The doctors then decided to try me with the injection and it has worked for at least a year but has recently begun to make me sick again (but worse) and not work as well as it used to. As a young adult, I don't want to live my life feeling sick or being in pain with my arthritis and so I'm beginning to feel methotrexate isn't for me.

Rhiannon:
Has your doc talked to you about other drugs? Have you gotten a second opinion about your disease? I'm assuming you have a Rheumatologist? Not a regular doc treating you..
I do MTX by injection too. It's easier on the stomach I think. I also do Enbrel, a biologic.
Good luck

re Limu:
Just a note on "snowbirdz" above.
Her site is old - 2003, and she's promoting Limu which has been discredited. Per Wikipedia:
Royal Tongan Limu was a seaweed extract product manufactured and distributed by Dynamic Essentials, a now defunct multilevel marketing company based in Lake Mary, Florida, until legal issues with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration forced the company’s closure in 2003. Subsequently, NBTY, Inc., the parent company of Dynamic Essentials, was ordered to pay a $2 million USD settlement in a class action suit launched by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice in response to misleading and illegal claims made about the purported health benefits of Royal Tongan Limu.

I've been on methotrexate for two year now. I get a little tired sometimes. But my life is back to normal now. IE. Able to walk and continue to run my own business. Before I took M. My life felt like it had ended. I was also scared to take it as the side effects sounded horrible. But if your monitered regular by your ruemie you will be OK. Maybe it works for some but not others. I have psoratic Arthritis.
Hope this helps someone worried to take it x
