My urologist did in fact say that the PVP would not clear the urinary incontinece. Did say that the PVP would relieve the pressure on the urether which would relieve the frequency and urgency of urination.
Anyone here experience mild but frequent urinary incontinence? What has worked for you in reducing or eliminating it? Thanks for reading my questions. Look forward to your comments. |

I am looking for a anyone who has had a good PVP expierence in the Pittsburgh,Pa area. It is apparent that a very competent Urologist is paramount. This forum has been extremely helpful. As one who has suffered from chronic BPH, I was excited about the PVP, but now I am reticent after reading every post here. I guess it boils down to living with the frequent urges, nocturia and weak stream or taking a chance on a procedure that may or may not improve your quality of life. Any help on obtaining info on a highly competent urologist in the Pittsburgh area would be immensely appreciated. |

Week #4 after PVP. Surgery was very easy and without any pain. I removed the Catheter after 3 days and that was when I first felt pain as I urinated on my own. Now, everything is getting better. Had occasional blood in urine and bladder spasms with pain for the first 3 weeks. Some 'false' urgency. Each week it got better and now I'm almost completely comfortable. Flow starts easily and there's no dribbling. Stream was not as strong as I expected but it seems stronger this week. Urologist tells me that it will continue to improve over time.

I was warned about this, I had previously had to self cath for two years and had major issues urinating for 5 years due to an enlarge prostate. I had retrograde ejaculation prior to greenlight anyway but discovered that using 60mg of ephydrine prior to having sex in most cases corrected that a mind blowing normal orgasm. After greenlight I found my retrograde ejaculatoin was very differnt, very much more feeling than I had had before, and that ephydrine still worked. I found a study on the net that said 30% of men benefited from such a drug. My dr laughed at me till I explained to him how it had helped me. However if I was not able to have normal ejacultion by any means, I am glad that I can now urinate. I had my surgery 9th June, and it took 2 weeks to be able to ejaculate, and almost 4 weeks for the burning to disappear. Im very happy with the result. |

67 years old---10 months since PVP procedure. No real problems, although I passed some clots/tissue about 8 weeks after. My stream is great and frequency is considerably improved, although I still get up about once per night --- down from 2-3 times/night. At first, it felt like I had partial retrograde ejaculation but now I don't notice it. My sex life (with my wife) is a good as ever.

58 years old in Orlando, FL. Had the PVP last Thursday and catheter comes out tomorrow. No pain and minimal bleeding. Doc gave me Before and After pics of the urethra ad there is no way this can't be an improvement but I'll know soon. I was going 8-12 times nightly for the last 5 years and FloMax was no help at all. Didn't even consider TURP...can't believe they still do it with PVP available. Considered ProLieve Microwave but didn't want to be awake while they stuck a freakin' microwave antennae up my member and cooked my prostate.

My 80 year old Dad had Greenlight laser treatment last Thursday. After 4 days he was great, however he has had to get back to hospital and have a cathetar reinserted due to blod clots post op. Has anyone experienced this and if so how long did it last. He has been told he will need to have the cathetar in for the next 4 weeks. Can anyone shed some light on this. Thanks Marie

Marie, 4 weeks seems like a long time to have the cath, but I don't know, maybe his drs know best. I am 50 years old, so I don't think we can compare a 50 yr old to an 80 yr old, when we talk about healing. I would think that "maybe" he could do the the cath himself at home and see how often he needs it, maybe after a week or 2 of leabving it in, but I am no dr. Good luck to him. Clots are normal... |

Its been a week and 1/2 since my PVP surgery. 4-5 rough days and nights...constant urgency to go and up at night a lot. That part is easing off now and the last two days have been pretty good. Last nite was the best yet .. only got up twice. I DID pass a blood clot (or two) 3 days back and it was a little disturbing to see but didn't hurt or anything. I hope things keep improving.

Rich - Last November I had the GLPVP procedure performed by Robert A. Munkelwitz, MD, FACS, Diplomate of the American Board of Urology. His office is in Southampton but he performs the procedure at a facility operated by Metropolitan Urological Specialists in East Setauket. I am very pleased with the outcome and would certainly recommend Dr. Munkelwitz. I am sorry I did not see your request sooner but I had not looked at the forum in the last six months. If you do follow up, you may certainly use my name as a reference. If you need more information, let me know. Good Luck |

I just had the PvP at Kaiser 3 days ago. I just tried to urinate, not even one drop. Any one could help? |

Jay or Roy: I followed your comments over the past several years and am now wondering how you're doing. Comments about your current prostate health and urinary functions would be most helpful if you're willing to share.
Hope all is well with both of you. |

Just a thought..........
I have been diagnosed with BPH dealing with this for about 6 years now. Something interesting happened that I thought you guys might be interested in this. My story goes like this: On a visit to my 4th urologist (wasn't happy with most of them) I was given a drug to control bladder spasms that was detected during a urodynamics test, one side effect of this drug make urination more difficult (like I need this to happen with my BPH symptoms). well of course I had extreme voiding problems after taking my 3rd dose. Voiding was so difficult and was accompanied by a extreme burning sensation. I contacted my family GP and asked him for antibiotics thinking that I had a Urinary tract infection. After the 3rd day of Cipro my BPH and voiding problems reduced in intensity from a AUA score of 25 to a 8, I could not remember the last time I voided so easily and went to the bathroom only 2 times compared to 4 or more at night. After finishing the 7 days of Cipro and 2 weeks after that all the BPH symptoms reappeared. Now 2 weeks later I was scheduled for my 3rd biopsy and was again put on Cipro to prevent infection from the biopsy procedure. The same symptom relief happened while on the 2nd round of Cipro for the biopsy procedure. So now I am in the doctors office prepped for the biopsy, ultrasound probe up my butt and the doctor says to me "so whats new" I told him about how the Cipro helped my symptoms and he came back with something I never thought I would hear from a doctor.. He said "it could be a placebo effect" and I said "yea it also could not be a placebo effect" he never followed up on my findings... So I conducted an experiment.. I thought about what I needed to reduce swelling other that that created by BPH, I then tried 2 ibuprofen tablets after eating dinner each day, yes only 2 tablets a day. By the 3rd day the BPH symptoms subsided once again regressing from a AUA score of 25 to about a 8 and maintained that score until 1 week after of stopping the ibuprofen intake. Yes a person can have prostitus for years and not know it because there are various forms of it. I am now convinced that at least for me my symptomatic BPH was been made worse because of prostititus and now know that reducing prostitus symptoms will reduce the need for surgery by reducing the uro symptoms. I am exploring herbals to accomplish this long term.. Good luck to all!!!! |
