Hello, I have been very anxious to feel the baby move. I am now 18 weeks and have not felt anything like "flutters" or kicks. Over the last week I have been having sharp pains accross my tummy and on my sides. Do you think this is anything to worry about? I can't help but feel worried as this is my first pregnancy and it seems everyone else feels movement around 14-18 weeks. Any thoughts out there? CC

I am also 18 weeks pregnant , my first pregnancy and everyday or almost everyother day I always feeling popping in my stomach as if the baby is moving and sometimes I have felt sharp pains. I've heard that most first time pregancies don't feel anything until late or they don't recognize the movement.

My wife and I are now 31 weeks pregnant with our first baby. We did not feel anything until 19 1/2 weeks, and didn't feel the baby consistently until about 24. Placenta placement, baby's location and your activity level will all have an impact on how often and how strongly you feel the baby. The pains you are feeling - if they kind of run from the sides of your belly down towards your pubic bone - are probably round ligament pains as the round ligament tries to support a growing baby. As always, if you are feeling worried - call your doctor for reassurance, that is why they get paid the big bucks. Good luck to you!

I am now 29 weeks pregnant with my first baby and remember being 18 weeks quite clearly. I didn't feel my baby move at all at that time, but had a lot of cramps due everything enlarging to make room for the baby. I must admit, I was also a little worried. Nowadays however, he moves all the time. Don't worry about it, it will move eventually and when it does, you will know!

I am 18 weeks pregnant tomorrow and feeling nothing I can be SURE is movement. Just the same as others have said- strange little cramps and pains- and bubbles. It brings me a lot of reassurance that there are so many other 1st time moms all paranoid becuase they can't feel baby movments yet. I think we'll be ok. It seems like about 2 weeks after every dr's appointment, I have been almost convinced that something has gone terribly wrong and the baby is not alive- This little blog made me feel way better. Glad I'm not the only overly paranoid one. :0)

Hi i'm 19 weeks pregnant in 2 days and i dont think i've felt anything yet.. was getting worried until i read all the above! i'm glad people are feeling like i am and other mums are saying its normal.. this is my first baby and i'm a little overweight and sometimes i look like i'm showing but when i'm feeling my tummy it doesnt seem to feel alot different.. only slightly.. i have my next ultrasound at 21 weeks and i find out the sex and if everything is ok.. i was thinking about buying a baby heart monitor to put ,my mind at rest in times of worry but i think i'd panic and run to the hospital everytime i couldnt detect it!

Its really nice to hear that other first time Mums are going through the same experiences that I am. I am 18.5 weeks pregnant and am having stomach pains - today a bit worse than usual. The midwife says that its nothing to worry about - possibly a water infection. I miscarried last year so get very worried at any slight pains. I have also not felt any movement yet. My friend did not feel anything until her 20 week scan - so I am not worried about that.
