I am so proud of Ian, Tamiko, Aidan and Colin, each life being affected so differently. Colin is a little trooper and I hope some day he will look back on this and say all he can remember is everyone lavishing him with cuddles and stuffed ducks. Ian and Tamiko are wonderfully balanced. How can one couple juxtapose the incredible commitment to Colin's care (and CarePages), a full time career, and the normalcy they are encouraging in Aidan's life. Thank you for the lovely article honoring this family and by extension, all families who are undergoing similar trials.

Every good and supportive wish and prayer is extended to this courageous little boy and his courageous family. Please know that you will remain in my thoughts and prayers. Though I have an incurable form of lymphoma, I am not a little boy, and I can't imagine how difficult this must be.

Keep fighting for those tractor rides, and I so pray that you will all enjoy them together for so many years to come.

Good luck, may God bless you, and I wish you all Godspeed.

God bless you and your family.

I don't know if this will help but I watched this story on HBO Real Sports and it was very moving and I bet they can help.

"Toland has been tireless in her quest to learn everything she can about Colin's illness, to understand how this tumor formed inside her son's head and how it's affecting him."

Did you vaccinate him? Did you check to see if his tumor contains the SV-40 virus as so many brain tumors do? The polio vaccine contains this virus and has caused many cancers. Check out the book "The Virus and the Vaccine: The True Story of a Cancer-Causing Monkey Virus, Contaminated Polio Vaccine, and the Millions of Americans Exposed" by Debbie Bookchin and Jim Schumacher. Read Neil Miller's books. Check out the National Vaccine Information Center at nvic.org .

When I was growing up in the 1950's-60's, children weren't getting cancers, they weren't running around with their inhalers, or going to the nurse for their ADHD, or suffering from fatal peanut allergies. Classrooms weren't labeled dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free, etc. Kids these days are plagued with medical and behavioral conditions to the point where people think it's normal. Common doesn't mean normal.

What's different between back then and now? Some 36+ vaccines by the time they enter school. And for what? For better health?

It's shameful. I am so sorry this happened to your son.

Lily, do you not think these parents are struggling enough to try to deal with their son's illness? Instead of offering them encouragement you spout off about something they can't do anything about anyway even IF it were what happened to their son.

I feel what you're saying has some validity, however IMHO this wasn't the right place to get up on your soapbox.

Toland family, I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. As the parent of a child that's ill I know that heartache you feel. Good luck and God Bless!

My daughter Erin fought this same exact brain tumor for 4 years and she is on this show. She had been adopted by the Amherst(MA) field hockey team. Dennis Murphy & FOJ are wonderful people. I notice you are from Marlboro - we live in Hudson,MA. Small world! I found this article on Colin through an online support group for "ependyparents" and I will contact his parents with the info on that thru Colin's carepage. As a parent of an angel I know how much we need all the support we can get in this type of situation and how being able to "speak" with other parents can be a big help.

My sister died of a brain tumor, a very rare brainstem type. My encouragement and love goes out to the family. Don't let anyone intrude into your personal journey if it doesn't feel right to you, this is your life and no one can understand what you are going through especially people who haven't had this happen.

Thank god Colin has some comfort in his tractors during this horrible time. I really hope there is some chance of survival - a decent one - that is worth putting this poor child through this torture. Who are the parents doing it for? Themselves or Colin?

"Kids with cancer have every right to a childhood, just like every other kid," Hayward said. "Unfortunately, in the course of treatment, they're often deprived of the little things like playing outside or watching a movie. But that doesn't mean you have to settle for that.

"We have a very long road ahead of us. Life is never really going to go back to what it was," Hayward added. "It just means you have to take a shorter-term look at life, a day-to-day approach."

"It's the day-to-day approach that lets Colin Hayward Toland forget about four spinal taps in four or five days, or even the assortment of tubes curling into his body at NYU."

So what kind of life is this for a two year old? A life of daily pain and suffering, that the cancer or chemo may end too soon anyway. WHY are they torturing this child? Even if Colin were able to express his horror and and refuse the torture - the court would order it. Hopefully the parents and doctors will squeeze a few more years out of this poor boy's life. I hope they enjoy it. I am sure Colin won't. Breeders are funny like that - the kids are really for their own ego, validation and self-fulfillment.

You need many years of therapy. You are a lonely, thoughtless, horrible excuse for a human.

to 2dogs:

NO! Why is it okay to torture this child? Thoughtless? I AM actually thinking about how this child FEELS. YOU ALL are the thoughtless ones. Why can't they accept this tragedy as it is and all enjoy his brief time here? Why try to save him at all costs (= his pain and suffering)?

I am a caring human being. YOU may be as well, however brainwashed you and yours are by the mainstream culture. Don't you even question the harm that os being done? if not, YOU don't deserve to be a parent. Oh I forgot, anyone can breed, it's just what you people do, just like chemo on babies, it's just what you do. God-forbid one considers that the child might be better off without it. Alowed to pass with dignity.

THIS would be respectful to Colin, and show how they value HIM - not just the idea of him - that they grasp on to despite the ramifications.

Seriously, why is is horrible to want to respect, protect (from pain & suffering) & honor the child?

You breeders are SICK. Must hold on to your precious trophies, despite the effect oh THEIR quality of life.

to "just say no" : perhaps you should log on and read the care pages for "Colinlovestractors" as i have. You will see the parents are doing all they can to avoid unnecessary tests and have done all they can to insure both of their boys have as normal a life as possible. To avoid all treatment would render Colin in severe pain and with multiple neurological complications due to swelling on the brain and pressure from the tumor inhibiting his ability to stand. Do not judge others until you have spent even one evening watching a sick child.

To lily: Perhaps the vaccines cause some tumors , perhaps not... no one knows. Many things have changed since the 50's and 60's .... we are no longer dying form small pox, mumps., measles and many other diseases that are slowly showing up again due to parents NOT vaccinating their children.I made a choice and my choice allows the children around my child a better chance to survive childhood without contracting a deadly disease. When you choose NOT to vaccinate your child you put your child as well as mine at risk of illness.
The family is dealing with a real difficult illness and doing all they can to get through each day... have compassion and get on your soapbox another time

You have got to be kidding me, right? How dare you judge how this family chooses to deal with this unbelievable, life changing diagnosis. My only hope is having Colin complete these treatments, there might be some chance of finding a cure, while lengthening Colins life here on earth. You must be...no, you ARE, the MOST insensitive human being (and I use that term "human being" lightly) that I have ever had the misfortune of coming across. What you have failed to grasp from this article is no parent would ever wish this for their child and would trade places in a heartbeat...that is what you call LOVE, not BREEDING!!! I only hope that you have not had a chance to "breed", because it is clear from your comment that you could never be a parent.

Thank you sam. I HAVE spent evenings watching a sick child - which is why I am so freaked out about the pain this child is going through. I will take a look. Bottom line is if he can't realistically be 'saved' then find some way to ease his pain and let it be... the child's suffering is paramount - not the parent's.

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Capricorn

You're in an industrious mood but you'll be happiest if you can be left to your own devices as much as possible. It's not that you're feeling unfriendly, simply that you won't be able to concentrate very well if you're surrounded by lots of people. If you haven't even started writing your Christmas cards yet, try to remedy that at some point today.
