You can:
1 - Offer to spend time with the person who has Parkinson's so that his wife can take a nap, attend to important things, or take the afternoon off.
2 - You can offer to drive him to support groups.
3 - If you know them well enough, you can find out if they are seeing a Movement Disorder's specialist (neurologist who specializes in Parkinson's)
4 - Offer to have them email me at mnilsen@myparkinsonsinfo.com. I would never pretend to have all of the answers. I do have ideas about how to direct them to people who have good answers.

Is there any place where I can get help for my brother who has Parkinson's? The problems started in his early 40s, and he currently is 54 years of age. He recently was approved for Medicaid, and has tried numerous medications and combinations of medicines. He even had the surgery in which an electrical stimulation device was implanted in his brain. It only improved his symptoms for nine months. His wife has told him that he can't return home because she cannot lift him if he happens to fall. He is so unhappy in a nursing home, and his anger often gets the best of him there. Is there any other treatment that might work or doctors he could see? What can be done to help him?

From the heart:
- Tell me about your life with Parkinson's now? How is it different than it was before?
- How is Parkinson's disease interrupting your life the most?
- Tell me about your outlook on life? How are you doing in your heart?
- What treatments help you the most?
- What are some strategies that you have used that have helped?
- Tell me about your relationship with your:
-wife
-husband
-children,
-other family members
-friends
-people at work
From research which is more sterile, but finds things our hearts do not realize:
1 - How are you sleeping? If they have problems with sleep - Describe the frustrations with sleep that you have.
2 - How is your balance and walking?
3 - Do you have any tremors? How are they affecting you?
4 - Is your memory still treating you OK, or is it starting to betray you a bit? Tell me more about that.
5 - Tell me about your ability to move your arms and legs. How hard is it to do things like bend over, look back over your shoulder, and shrug your shoulders? Tell me more about that.
I hope that you are very succesful with your patient. You are doing noble work. I would love to hear more about your experience.

my father has had parkinson's for over 20 years, and has his good days and his bad days. I've heard of xango and am signing up to be a distributer of this product. I've used it in my excercise program and has helped me lose weight. It truly is a miracle fruit. It's got millions of advantages. Who cares if you have to spend some money for it. It works! I'm getting a case of it for my dad for Christmas and we'll see what happens for him. I truly believe it will help him.

My mom has parkinsons and was recently diagnosed for it. She is 97 and slipping away fast. She was a robust woman a year ago and weighed about 160 pounds and is now down to 103. She can't eat any longer, gets weak and mostly sleeps now. She has the tremors in her jaw and the restless leg thing. She was falling a lot too and when they found out she had it. My uncle on my dads side had it too.

hi, im after a bit of advice, my father in law has parkinsons and has had it for 4 years. I dont really know much abot it but i do know what the family are going through.
My father in law has also suffered some stange side affects from the medication, one of these is being addicted to gambeling. He has never touched a slot macheine in his life until he started on his medication and now hes sneeking off and lieing to his wife and family. The doctors have heard of this happening but really have no idea how to help.
What id really like to know is how parkinsons effects the brain and personality of someone and like to hear from anyone with similar experiances.

my 52 year old partner was diagnosed with PD 4 years ago. The muscles on his left side have begun to atrophy from disuse. Can he,and indeed should he, be doing strength exercises, i.e. with dumbells to strengthen those muscles? His right side is still strong.

I am 46, I have had PD 3 years. I was first put on mirapex then Requip. DO NOT USE these drugs they will ruin your life. I am currently on Levodopa/Entacopone, a life saver for me.

I'm sure they can cure Parkinsons with stem cell replacement surgery. BUT the large drug companies would loose big time.
And you don't need to kill babies to get stem cells, everyone has them in themselves its just harder to harvest them.

Try a natural product called StemEnhance that stimulates the release of your own adult stem cells from the bone marrow. Surpisingly, these stem cells can differentiate into many cell types in the body. I know several individuals with Parkinson's disease who have benefited greatly by taking this product. You can find out more at cures.stemtechbiz.com or reply to adult.stemcells@yahoo.com

In response to above. Try taking a look at http://www.bpmtherapy.com
That may be something you can try for your brother and see if it works for him.

I'm with Kevin from Edmonton on Mirapex which did wreck my life and I went off Requip which was the next agonist I tried. As soon as I increased the dose in the 2nd week and felt worse, that was that. NO THANKS. I have been dx. for 10 yrs. and have been on CR Sinemet since day one. I tried Comtan resulting in more side effects so I am down to 5 times 200/50 CR Sinemet a day and doing the best since the Mirapex nightmare started in 2005. I plan on reducing my doseage by half very slowly. I do not recommend this for anyone else as everyone is different. I have spent years researching and reading books. When I started to record everything in a 24 hour daily journal, med times, diet, moods, bowel and urine elimnation that I began to see a pattern. I have either been incorrectly dx. or I do better with less or no drugs. If anyone has been mis dx. I would aappreciate hearing from them. My email address is
smithclayriley4@yahoo.ca

Thanks,
