Judged: 1 1 1 Yeah, you were a real "man" Chris - because a real man harrasses a guy with Parkinson's, at first LIES and denied he did it and then when busted you come forward and "express your regret". But I guess that is what passes as a "man" among the Tea Party crowd. I would bet I pay more in taxes that either Chris or Dave - am I happy about it? No, because I would like to see it spent more wisely. But the concept of having healthcare expanded makes financial sense as well as moral sense, but you Tea-party GOP-party me-me-me-party goons don't take the time to learn anything other than what Glenn and Rush spoon feed you. |

Judged: 1 1 Exactly. If people want to live in a socialist state, they have that right. Not saying I'd want to but that would be the right of the people of that particular state to decide. Despite the drool that you've been spoon-fed and seem to so readily gobble, not all of the states were meant to be exactly the same. Our US Constitution was written to limit the power of the Federal Government. Nope, you are wrong. I want our constitution to be followed regarding health care and a whole lot of other areas in which our elected officials have deviated. Again, you failed to read and/or comprehend what I said. I have no problem with government health care but we need to do it the right way by amending the Constitution of the United States if we want our Federal government to provide it. I personally, would also like to see it done in a way which benefits the recipients and not the big corporations. Shame that you are so sure of your own rightness that you failed to comprehend anything I typed before. When we fail to require our elected officials to follow the law that was laid down to prevent a totalitarian-type of rule, we head evermore towards that precipice. Sad that you don't seem to care as long as you get your way on the health care issue. |

Judged: 1 1 Dave, you don't get it... you already ARE paying for everyone's insurance, just in a round about way. Everytime you go to the doctor or ER and pay $60 for two aspirin, or paying $1,000 for a couple of xrays/tests, that's the hospital/doctor's way of making up for the cost they "eat" when someone without insurance comes into their office. It is illegal for a doctor to refuse care because a person can't pay for it. So unless they repeal that law (which will never happen), doctors/health care professionals will continue to jack up those prices. Those costs then get passed on to your insurance company, who in turn, raises your rates to make up the cost. Now, requiring everyone that can afford insurance to buy it makes sense for a couple of reasons. The more people in the pool, the lower insurance premiums because the insurance companies now have more poeple to help spread the costs out. "But I don't go to the doctor. I shouldn't have to buy a product I won't use!" The thing about this statement is you may not VOLUNTARILY go to the doctor, but if you get hit by a bus or get injured in an accident or get shot on the street, etc., you're going to the doctor, like it or not. So, the cycle of the hospital eating a cost starts over again. It's just like auto insurance....I have yet to use my auto insurance because I'm a helluva driver. But that's not to say that tomorrow, some moron on 71 isn't going to plow into me. I can't help that. Neither can the uninsured person that gets hit by a car. If he's got some form of insurance, it lightens the load for all of us. It's important to think about these issues outside of the box and not with blinders on. See the WHOLE issue and all the scenarios before slamming something. |

Is Reichert sorry or just sorry he got busted? That video shows a man not out of control but one who took the time to reach into his pocket and pull out a few bucks to humiliate an old guy. Nice...there's no defense for that, and no apology to make it better. The health care bill is certainly a debatable subject, and rightfully so. However, Reichet's behavior is not defensible...he's a grade-A bullying d!ck and so is the other guy next to him shouting the old man down. This country is becoming so fractured along party lines that we cannot see what we've become. That goes for Libs and Conservatives alike.

Go Bucks, I think you got their goat on this one, I am waiting to see how they come up with something to counter what you said, but all I hear is crickets chirping |

I agree with you. Also, could Matt be trying to get some attention just like the "crybaby Parkinson's patient" he derides? Hmmmm Just a perception. |

Judged: 1 1 1 I'm not hating anybody, and everybody does have a right to an opinion. But that doesn't mean that every opinion has validity. And I have to reiterate, unless you are very wealthy, you probably have benefitted from govenment largess in some way. You just don't notice it because it's become so engrained in everyday life. Government subsidy means more than welfare checks and food stamps. Working and middle class people benefit from all sorts of services that are subsidized by the government, but are taken for granted. Want to read the latest best seller or pick up something for your kid to read without having to pay $30 to buy it at a book store? Visit the excellent public library system we have in Columbus, which is largely supported by state and local taxes. There are many facets of everyday life that are publlically subsidized either partially or in full, and their existence makes life a lot easier and less expensive for most of us. If these things went away, I guarantee people in this country would see a precipitous drop in their standard of living. As for putting people in boxes, I know people who have "worked hard all their lives" and made what you would call "good choices" and STILL get screwed by the brutal winner-take-all economy we live in. And I also know single mothers who, like you, work two and three jobs and pay taxes. Their contribution to society should be as respected as anybody else's, because they are usually working low-paid but vitally necessary jobs (i.e. nurses aides, cleaning etc.) |

I have only just found this thread through the Parkinson's connection and would like to share my views with you from an English perspective.
We Have a health care system here that is ostensibly 'free' at the point of need. I go to the GP [MD] and I don't pay; I need hospital treatment and I don't pay; I need ongoing treatment and specialist input for life and I don't pay. I don't pay because I and everybody else in the country pays through their taxation [something a large percentage of Americans seem to object to paying when it is related to health care but strangely not so when it comes to weaponry and soldiery]. It is a system that we deeply proud of and it sets us apart from the rest of the world with a few exceptions in the rest of Europe. Only a minority pay any money towards their drug prescriptions - a nominal fee of $10 per item - but there are many exceptions. Oddly having Parkinson's does not qualify for exemption!!! If it wasn't for the fact that I had to retire on ill health I would have to pay somehow but even if I couldn't pay I would still support the system. Some of the more ill-educated or bigoted among you call this 'socialism' or even 'communism' which is laughable if not for the fact that they actually believe it. Having to rely on private insurance is to me a disgraceful way of providing a health care system. You health is only as good as your ability to pay for it???? Absolutely crazy. The insurance companies are laughing all the way to the bank. People keep quoting the Constitution - hey guys this piece of paper was originally written over 200 years ago, we are now in the 21st century, we have have moved on in the way we relate to our fellow men and women. America Inc. has low credibility around the world at this current time. it would appear you now have a president attempting to right the failing of the previous administration and the Health Bill is a part of that as many here see it. It will replace self interest with common humanity. Go for it. |
