Full story: NBC San Diego

Once they do a study...This, my dear community, is such a farce! Some years ago, I worked in the field of clinical research, and have seen how these companies can skew these tests to get the results that they want. Further, it is probably not known that, to prove efficacy, only two tests are required showing a "positive" result. If it takes five to 100 tests to get that magic "two" number matters not. So, once again, it is "buyer beware!" The FDA, which was originally created to protect you, is in bed with the drug manufacturers! Know this and act accordingly.

It's not objective to only have the drug maker report adverse events to the FDA.
*It would benefit all if a monitoring/reporting site was in effect so complete reporting of those that are in usage of the particular drug would be able to update to a (third party) what effects positive/negative are current.

It would be best if no ads for prescription drugs were on TV. They manipulate people into self-diagnosis, which is dangerous. The magazine ads do slightly less harm, I suspect, because they include so much of the "fine print" with factual details about the drugs.... Side effects CAN be humorous, even when they are dangerous. I once abandoned an otherwise useful medication because a side effect was muscle weakness. I had three days during which I could not stand up nor walk. My legs "turned to jelly" and I collapsed onto the floor whenever I tried to stand up and walk.

So glad to see the news broadcast this article!!!!! These ads are terrible to watch and llsten to. T.V. is suppose to be entertainment and these ads certainly are not that. In fact it is becoming so irrating that I believe we are all going to be a nation of hypochondriacs!! YOU have to feel bad for people who have the "diseases" that are constantly being thrown in our faces too, as they are being constantly reminded of their own sorrow!!!!! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! Good thing for the MUTE button!

When will they stop airing commercials for impotence and overactive bladder medications? They are always on during the news hour. They are offensive. Changing the channel is not an option because I won't know when the commercials are over.

Wow, good posts! Let go get them! What are we waiting for? Burn down the FDA! Seriously though, the FDA is bad people. Marijuana is less harmful than cigarettes and if you are a parent and can't control your kid, they'll be drinking or doing whip-its anyway. The FDA is a crock and like most (if not all) aspects of the government, they exists as a false sense of security and are for sale to the highest bidder.

Paxil, a popular antidepressant made by GlaxoSmithKline, has been linked to serious birth defects in children whose mothers used Paxil during the first months of pregnancy. Most Pail birth defects involve septal defects of the heart, which are holes between the heart's two main pumping chambers. In some studies, women who took Paxil during the first three months of pregnancy were about one and a half to two times as likely to have a baby with a heart defect as women who received other antidepressants or women in the general population. In 2005 GlaxoSmithKline modified the drug's labeling twice to reflect the birth defect risk, and the Food & Drug Administration place Paxil in a new pregnancy risk Category D - meaning there was now positive evidence that Paxil use put a developing fetus at risk of birth defects.

I know, my coworker recently had to field the question "Dad, what's ED?" from his 7 year old son. I'm so tired of hearing about ED.

It crazy b/c most conditions can be helped with the simple three - proper diet, rest and exercise. When I stopped doing all three, I developed a severe anxiety disorder. Think of most disorders and you can bet that most of them can be helped with a healthier lifestyle, such as high blood pressure, High LDL, heart disease, depression and anxiety, etc. The pharms have a pill for everything!!!! But fail to mention the side effects that require another presciption, etc.

Aside from being ‘funny’ and ‘scary’ as you said, drugs side effects can be extremely dangerous that it can lead to further complications. The website http://www.paxilbirthdefectlaw.com/paxil-laws... contains ample information about how harmful antidepressants side effects could be. Always consult your doctor about any side effects you are experiencing even though you may find some of them funny.
