What is a Christian? This should be a really easy question to answer. It reminds me of an old parable from another religion. A student asks his teacher, Teacher, "what is the mooon?" the teacher says nothing and silently points at the full moon in the evening sky. The Student smiles wisely, bows and leaves. This was years ago. To this day some people say, there are those who gather silently in worship of the student's teacher's finger! There are some people today that are like the foolish student. Instead of listening to the message of good news for humanity, they worship the messenger as god and ignore the message completely! What Jesus taught us can be summed up precisely in this scripture: ""One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important? The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this:'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this:'Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." I feel that meditating and praying on these two commandments will illuminate the life of any who live a life of love as Jesus showed us. I really do not believe there are any christian organizations. I believe there are just christian people. Some organizations have lots, some have less, but no organization has all the christians!

"The second is this:'Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." Unless your neighbor is gay, then go ahead and hate them. It's the LDS thing to do. Utah sucks!

How many actually read the associated article? When questioned again if I am a Christian or not? I think I'll respond: "I sure hope Jesus thinks I am."

Jesus preached an egalitarian view of reality with the simple instructions to verify it for one's self. The predominate number of sects that call themselves christian are patriarchal and not at all in harmony with the love that Jesus stressed as the most important aspect of our existence! Patriarchal religions are all about control. Harsh laws, harsh judgements (stoning! That's gotta hurt!) diminishing the rights of others, slavery , oppression of women....... Men and Women are created equal. For two human beings to love and respect each other it can not be any other way!

I think you'll be surprised at how far off your perceptions of us are...

I do see some interesting concepts in your teachings, I can not however accept the patriarchal doctrine with it's related arrangement of hierarchy. The patriarchal doctrine is in opposition to the egalitarian teachings of Jesus. I feel being a Christian is something apart from the teachings of any Church that I am familiar with, I recognize many Later Day Saints who by their actions demonstrate Christian Love, not because of the teachings of their church, but in spite of them. I feel what is, is and as my awareness of the universe unfolds, my comprehension and appreciation for the Love of God increases. I belong to no church and depend on my personal insights and revelations for my enlightenment. I like to share my insights with those who are interested but I urge everyone to look within themselves to confirm or deny anything that I might say. Remember, God is perfectly capable of infinite multitasking and needs no hierarchy of men to accomplish his work!

Remember, God is perfectly capable of infinite multitasking and needs no hierarchy of men to accomplish his work! However, you've never stopped to actually learn about our teachings FROM US. You believe what others who oppose us tell you, but you do not believe what we believe from the mouths of active members. What you don't understand is that our teachings ARE why we exhibit Christian love, not despite them. Wake up and listen to the members of the church instead of those who are bitter towards us! Would you take the word of someone who doesn't like your spouse over the word of your spouse? I think not, so why believe someone actively against the LDS church and not the members who have lived the gospel their entire lives? I have not been fooled in any way. We DO follow Christ's teachings. He is the very foundation of our religion. He is the head of our religion. Anything and everything is through Him, and He taught us to love all. However, Love does not mean turning a blind eye to wickedness. It means to love people despite their sins for who they are, but it does not mean to accept their sinful behavior as acceptable, whatever sin it may be. Until you've read the Book of Mormon through and through, go to an LDS church service, and pray about what you've heard, you have no leg to stand on telling us that our beliefs are contrary to what we claim.

When I was on my mission, I taught literally thousands of people and the pattern as I look back on it was the same: Meet them, turn on as much personal charm as I could to tell them the message that God loves them and I wanted to "share" a message. Teach them the basic parts about god, jesus and then move into book of mormon in the first 20 minutes. Then on to joseph smith and the more intelligent people would then start to question it. Give them a book of mormon, then challenge them to read and pray about it. Most times, they wouldnt. THen invite them to church. If they went, they would go see a few hundred people who believed the story in their mind they questioned, and the members would also turn on the personal charm to show the investigators that joseph smith and the book of mormon were normal. My fight was half done at that point. If they could give up smoking or drinking, and hadnt murdered anyone I was more than likely going to baptise them. The Social grooming of accepting that first piece of "Milk and meat" from friendly people made it easier. If you're expecting to go to church the first time and see insane cult members you'll be disappointed. What you'll see is normal and good people, partially believing fabrications of joseph smith. Its just not true. So by all means, go to the mormon church. They know this is true. They'll help you feel good about believing it.

" neutral one, I have posted it before several times. I do not accept the patriarchal teachings of the old testament. Your church does. It is as simple as that. My wife and I are soulmates. This means that we are best friends and recognize the only voice of authority in our relationship is God, not the hateful volcano god, but the true God Of LOVE that Jesus attempted to point us towards. This is our faith. Each other in the arms of The true God Of LOVE. We are both dedicated to exposing the error of worshipping the volcano god as taught by all patriarchal religions. The Jesus that I and my wife listen to is the one who preached of God's Love. There are a lot of scriptures attributed to Jesus that contradict this. We totally accept the scripture where Jesus said ""One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. There is no commandment greater than these." My wife and I both agree as to the validity of this scripture by practicing what was said. The results have been amazing! To sum it up, we both agree that Jesus was (and is) an egalitarian and anything in the rest of the scriptures that contradicts this, as well as any supplemental teachings that contradicts the egalitarian message of Jesus is simply not of God! The Antichrist is real! Learn to identify it!

I believe in Christ. He is my Savior and Redeemer. He came to this earth, born of the virgin Mary, in order to fulfill God's plan for the world. He was the great Jehovah of the Old Testament, and Jesus the Christ of the New Testament. He taught the gospel, set up His church, and atoned for our sins and was crucified despite the fact that he had never sinned. I strive to live according to His teachings every microsecond of my life. Please, tell me again how I'm not a Christian...

Thankyou for explaining yourself. But you do know that to have the belief you do you have ripped the Bible till you only have what you want from it (which most do but not like you) and you toss all the rest of the Bible which is in a disagreement with you to the curb as garbage and heresay while you contine to say that God, Jesus the Christ is guiding you to do this with that book of scripture that speaks of him from the days of Adam to John the Revalator. You have PROCLAIMED Christ has told you to have this belief. That is REVELATION in the capacity of a PROPHET because you are spreading your revelation to others as YOUR truth that YOU claim Christ has given to you. You fool...you have established yourself as a patriarch of your own gospel and don't even see it! HOW BLIND ARE YOU?????

No surprise said "You have PROCLAIMED Christ has told you to have this belief. That is REVELATION in the capacity of a PROPHET because you are spreading your revelation to others as YOUR truth that YOU claim Christ has given to you. You fool...you have established yourself as a patriarch of your own gospel and don't even see it! HOW BLIND ARE YOU????" Well, No surprise, I am not spreading my revelation, I am pointing towards the two most important commandments as said by Jesus: "One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. There is no commandment greater than these." I am merely stating that focusing on these two commandments as Jesus said, allows me to see the Universe with greater clarity. How does that make me blind ? The bible is full of errors! This can be proved to anyone's satisfaction with proper research. I was merely pointing out that at least the first two commandments can be proven as true to one's self with a little work. As to the rest of the scriptures, think about it. If Jesus says these two commandments are the most important and your religious leaders disagree , you have to chose to either accept that these two commandments are as Jesus said they were, or reject them and follow your beloved prophets, the ones who brought us the Mountain Meadows Massacre! Jesus would not call me a fool, Brigham Young would have slit my throat! As far as any revelations that I have had, those are for myself, and as I was saying, any who want to listen to God instead of false prophets can do the same thing I did. The truth is simple and delightful, It is not something that I invented! It is in one of the books that your church sometimes picks and choses from. If you have a bible look it up! I am not asking anyone to take my word for anything! That is what false prophets do! Until you do your own homework, you will not be able to understand the truth that Jesus was pointing towards! Also, No Surprise, do you actually know what a patriarchy is ? Perhaps you should look up the word in a dictionary. I am as far from being patriarchal as a person could get. My wife and I have an egalitarian relationship and work on our capacity to love each other unconditionally daily! The only authority either one of us recognize is God !

Duce Big-low wrote: <quoted text> You must be drunk with all your booze bable! Duce, I understand that you are trying to defend our religion but when you make these kind of comments, you make us look like a church that does not focus on love and the teachings of christ. Please remember when you post that there may be someone on these threads that want to find the truth and they may not take kindly to the harsh words that are spoken by some of our church members. I understand your frustration. I feel it myself because I know our teachings are true and I want everyone else to know it but I also remember that Jesus loves John just as much as he loves me. It doesn't matter if John accepts his love or not. And I have a responsibilty to treat him and others the way Jesus would treat them. With love and tolerance. John and grandpa are also very respectful when speaking, you may not like what they have to say but they are respectful. And in turn do not deserve harsh words from us.

This is a stupid question because the answer is so obvious. The Mormons are not Christians and NO Christian Church be it Protestant, Orthodox or Roman Catholic recognizes it as a Christian Church.
