After being treated in the ER at Children's Hospital of Pgh, my daughter aquired MRSA 4 days later. I find it rather odd that she woke up with vaginal discharge (thought to be a yeast infection due to amoxicilian for an ear infetion). A culture was done which came back as "heavy growth MRSA" -*Resistant to Clyndamicin*
Her ER visit was on Sat Jan. 12th. A complete physical was done as well as an IV in her hand to draw blood. The IV remained in place until her test results came back (which were all normal). Her dr. told me that once a person acquires MRSA, it can find it's way out of the body anywhere. Is this true???... or is possible that she could have picked it up from a toilet seat?!
She was treated with Bactrim (which seemed to do the trick). However, on the 7th day of bactrim, she developed a severe allergic reaction and had to be switched to Cipro.
The "sores" on her labia have gone away. However, she is still red and "irritated" looking. The dr.(pediatric infectious disease) said, she is more than likely colonized in her vagina with MRSA.
Tonight, she developed EXTREMELY red skin on her bum. It hurts and she cried when I rubbed lotion on it. It looked like just horribly dry skin. It is also on the lower left side of her torso. It DID NOT feel warm to the touch as cellulitis is suppose to feel. Is there any possibility the MRSA has spread to her buttocks and is about to get worse?
I am so beside myself. I am terrified that the worse is going to happen. The Bactrim seemed to work so well for her. We had to run Cipro for 21 days and the "reddness" is still there. The Bactrim had her almost completely cleared up in the 7 days she took it. I am convinced that she NEEDED bactrim for 20 days.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I am so worried about my little girl. PLEASE HELP!

I'm wondering what happened with your daughter. My 2-year old was just diagnosed with MRSA in the vagina too. Real similar story - antibiotic for ear infection, dishcharge, go to the dr. thinking yeast infection and now on Bactrim.
Please continue your story. |

Hi Kim, sorry to hear that about your daughter. I would highly recommend you take a serious consideration to trying Mangosteen. The pericarp in the mangosteen is the worlds richest source of Xanthones. What are Xanthones you ask. It been shown in studies to kill MRSA it's a wondeful tasting juice. Your doughter will love it. Take a look www.InformationOnMangosteen.info |
