Mesothelioma is one of the deadliest diseases known to man; the average life span of an inflicted person from the time of diagnosis until death is less than 24 months. It’s a disease that strikes approximately 3,000 United States citizens each and every year; hard working people who have labored for a lifetime to provide for their families, doing the work that keeps this country running and a great place to live. Mesothelioma True Story and Support
Forty five years after being exposed to asbestos dust, my husband Brian was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma and given a prognosis of 3 to 9 months. Determined to ease his burden, I put into place a pain and symptom management plan that was to dramatically improve the 'quality of his life'. Testament to this; despite his prognosis of 3 to 9 months; Brian survived for two years, continued to live at home, remained active and alert and was not bed bound until 3 short days prior to his death. If you are caring for a loved one with mesothelioma don't feel helpless - there is so much you can do to improve the quality of their life. You can make a difference. I have written a book titled 'Lean on Me' Cancer through a Carer's Eyes, about Brian's courageous battle with mesothelioma and of my 'emotional journey' as I cared for him and improved the quality of his life. 'Lean on Me' which is highly recommended by cancer councils and palliative care organizations world wide, includes the methods and tools I used to control Brian's pain, plus many excerpts and poems from my personal diary in which I wrote daily throughout the 2 years of Brian's illness and beyond. I have written my book in the sincere hope of bringing inspiration and strength to others. 'Lean on Me' is not available in book shops - you can purchase it online through my website www.lean-on-me.net Dr's recommendations and Reviews available onsite. |
